Indians say they should close the Tibetan file and move on

The Wuhan Summit in April, 2018 was a game changer for the tense relationship between the Indian and Chinese governments. As a result, issues such as long-standing border disputes and the Central Tibetan Administration’s anti-China activities are set to be resolved, thereby ushering a new era of peace and development for the region.

In the wake of the recent “indefinite postponement” of the 13th Religious Conference of the Schools of Tibetan Buddhism and Bön Tradition is a spate of media reports throwing yet another spotlight on the torrid state of affairs within the Dharamsala-based Tibetan leadership known as the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA).

Tibetan politics spiralling downwards

Lobsang Sangay, the Dalai Lama’s chosen head of the CTA, has been accused of mismanaging funds meant for the Tibetan community-in-exile and gross abuse of power. Click to enlarge.

In late November, Delhi-based Rajeev Sharma reported on the differences between the Dalai Lama and Tibetan President Lobsang Sangay. A journalist of over two decades focusing on international relations and foreign policy, Sharma’s scathing exposé about a power struggle between the two leaders put Tibetan politics in a tailspin.

According to Sharma’s sources, Sangay has claimed that “the Dalai Lama has failed for 60 years in negotiations with China”, which the CTA president is now saying he “has the power and ability to succeed.” In trying to position himself to take credit for negotiations with China for the Dalai Lama’s return, Sangay’s comments have reportedly infuriated the Dalai Lama, with fiery arguments breaking out between the two leaders. Sharma’s report on the breakdown in relationship between the two men is not beyond belief – Sangay is known to be highly ambitious and not above employing underhanded and violent methods to remove political rivals such as Penpa Tsering and Lukar Jam.

The postponement of the much-anticipated 13th Religious Conference threw yet another wrench in the already-deteriorating relationship between the Dalai Lama and Sangay. In the CTA’s announcement, they claimed that it would be inappropriate to carry on with the conference due to the sudden demise of Kathok Getse Rinpoche, a Nyingma religious leader who passed away just a week before the conference was due to be held. The conference was supposed to discuss and decide on a number of crucial matters, one of which is rumored to be the Dalai Lama’s successor.

Rumours are rife within the Tibetan community-in-exile that there is a huge spat between the Dalai Lama and Lobsang Sangay. It is said that the Dalai Lama is furious with Lobsang Sangay for trying to take credit for his negotiations with China regarding his return to Tibet.

Sharma reports that the decision to postpone the conference was done without Sangay first consulting the Dalai Lama. Furthermore, the announcement was made while the Dalai Lama was travelling, thereby not giving him an opportunity to respond or retract it. When the Dalai Lama found out what had happened, it is said that he shouted expletives at Lobsang Sangay, saying that, amongst other things, he would not accept anyone dictating terms to him.

The Karmapa card

The deteriorating relationship between the Tibetan administration’s two senior-most leaders is not the only event which has caught the attention of the Indians. Elsewhere in the Tibetan community, developments within the Karma Kagyu lineage have grown to become a cause for concern for the Indian government themselves. These developments are related to one of the 17th Karmapa candidates, Ogyen Trinley Dorje whose planned attendance at the conference has also been making the headlines. For many years, Ogyen Trinley Dorje has been tipped as a potential successor of the Dalai Lama. His planned attendance to the conference was held to be all the more significant because Ogyen Trinley Dorje has been in absentia since May 2017, living abroad despite repeated requests from Indian and Tibetan authorities to return. Citing health reasons for his extended stay, Ogyen Trinley Dorje recently took citizenship of Dominica, the Caribbean island nation whose passport allows him visa-free access into almost all Commonwealth countries.

Within the Karma Kagyu tradition responsibility to recognize the Karmapa lies with four regents. In recent times, three of these regents have recognized competing candidates, confusing followers all over the world. Orgyen Trinley Dorje (left) was recognized by Tai Situ Rinpoche; Trinley Thaye Dorje (middle) was recognized by Shamar Rinpoche; and Dawa Sangpo Dorje (right) was recognized by Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche. In-fighting between supporters of these candidates continues until today, a fact that has fractured the tradition deeply. Add to this the fact that the Dalai Lama interfered by backing Orgyen Trinley, a move with no traditional basis, the schism became a heated debate with the Tibetan community. In response, Shamar Rinpoche claimed that Orgyen Trinley’s recognition was incorrect, he had evidence of this and the Dalai Lama had no business in meddling in the affairs of the Kagyu lineage. Now Orgyen Trinley, who the Dalai Lama and the CTA nurtured for a decade has abandoned them and prefers to have freedom as a citizen of Dominica.

It is a move that is reported to have so upset the Indian government, that they denied him a visa to enter India on his new Dominica passport. He would only be allowed to enter on his Yellow Card, the identity certificate issued by India to Tibetan refugees for international travel. The Yellow Card identifies its bearer as a Protectorate of India and requests the destination country to afford its bearer safe passage as they would for an actual Indian citizen. It is the same Yellow Card which Ogyen Trinley Dorje has announced he refuses to use and wishes to surrender. With India denying him a visa and Ogyen Trinley Dorje refusing to use the only document India is willing to recognize, his attendance to the conference was thrown in doubt. This, according to The Hindu, is the real reason why the 13th Religious Conference was postponed. The Hindu, which is the second most circulated English-language newspaper in India, reported that “despite several requests from the Karmapa for a visa, he has been unable to visit India as planned.”

The Indian government’s denial of Ogyen Trinley Dorje’s visa, while well within their rights to do so, has been viewed by some observers as petty. Not only has Ogyen Trinley Dorje’s acquisition of a new citizenship upset the Indian authorities, but they are said to be further displeased with his wanting to surrender his Yellow Card. In opting to relinquish his Yellow Card, Ogyen Trinley Dorje’s actions have been labelled as ungrateful and perceived as a slight against the Indian government; that is to say, now that he has a Dominica passport, he is no longer in need of India’s generosity for the last 60 years.

This complicated situation is further compounded by the fact this is not the only message Ogyen Trinley Dorje has sent out in 2018. Earlier in the year, he made a startling video where he spoke about the lack of education he received in India, and shared his disappointment of the divisive sectarian politics within the Tibetan community-in-exile. Without having to say it in so many words, it is quite clear that Ogyen Trinley Dorje was referring to the CTA’s meddling in the private affairs of Tibetan Buddhist schools.

Ogyen Trinley Dorje’s case reflects the frustration faced by 150,000 Tibetans who followed the Dalai Lama into exile. After 60 years in exile living on empty hopes and false promises by the CTA, they are now in a limbo. They cannot go back to Tibet without being labelled ‘traitors’ who abandon the Tibetan cause, nor can they move forward because the CTA has failed to generate any political progress for them. Faced with such a bleak future under the yoke of the CTA, it is no surprise that the population in the Tibetan settlements in India has dwindled to 85,000 as the trend develops for younger Tibetan refugees to leave India and start a new life elsewhere.

The ‘Tibetan file’

The events reported above do not even take into account India’s other recent dealings with the Tibetan leadership which have oftentimes had a negative impact on Sino-Indian relations. Thus, given the Tibetan leadership’s own internal politicking as well as their increasingly complicated relationship with the Indian authorities, is it still worthwhile maintaining a connection with the Tibetan administration? This is a question many, including M.K. Bhadrakumar, are asking Indians to consider. A career diplomat in the Indian Foreign Service for over 29 years, with postings including India’s ambassador to Uzbekistan and Turkey, Mr. Bhadrakumar has written regularly for the Asia Times since 2001. In his Indian Punchline blog, he recently published the article titled “India should close ‘Tibetan file’ and move on”.

Source: https://indianpunchline.com/india-should-close-tibetan-file-and-move-on/. Click to enlarge.

Raising the role of the ‘Tibetan card’ often played by India as a means to provoke China in the past, Bhadrakumar opines that doing so in the last three years has not impressed the Chinese. In a time of improving relationships between Beijing and Delhi, Bhadrakumar notes that it would be ill-advised to continue doing so. In fact, Bhadrakumar recognizes that the religious conference of Tibetan Buddhist leaders “was an audacious move that would have provoked Beijing. For, it would only have conveyed the signal that Delhi desired to keep the ‘Tibetan file’ open even after the Dalai Lama departed. It would have sullied the ‘Wuhan spirit’.”

Perhaps that was one reason Ogyen Trinley Dorje’s application for a visa was declined; Delhi knew that without Ogyen Trinley Dorje’s presence at the religious conference, it was further impetus for the CTA to cancel it. In this way, Delhi was able to neutralize an event that had the potential to damage their relations with China. And although hotly debated, it has also been argued by some that the decision to cancel the religious conference was at the behest of the Indian government to appease China. However, as Bhadrakumar says, “it is difficult to be judgmental whether the GOI (Government of India) really felt annoyed by the Karmapa acquiring Dominica citizenship or whether that came handy as an alibi to scuttle the Tibetan conference at Dharamsala.”

M.K. Bhadrakumar joins a growing list of Indian thinkers such as Rajeev Sharma, Jayadeva Ranade and Markandey Katju who, over the last 12 months, have concluded that the ‘Tibetan card’ should be dropped. With the development of new India-China ties, both countries are now on the road of reconciliation after 60 years of having a strained relationship, primarily due to Tibet. Since the Dalai Lama fled Lhasa in 1959, the Tibetan cause has been only a burden to India, bringing nothing but problems including a war in the 1960s. At such a sensitive time, with the potential for greater stability and prosperity in the region, the last thing India needs is for China to ally Pakistan as she has with Nepal which, as M.K. Bhadrakumar has put it so succinctly, “is a defining moment. Instead of being a revolving door for Tibetan militants, Nepal is poised to turn into a window for Tibet to the outside world (and vice versa.)” For India to ignore and not capitalize on the fast-moving progress of China’s involvement in the region would be detrimental.

Both Nepal and India have clamped down on anti-China protests held by Tibetan groups in order to protect local communities from unruly protestors and to prevent loss of lives by attempts from the Tibetan refugees to self-immolate. Both Indians and Nepali never join such protests against China, even though they have every right to as members of free and democratic nations. This is a clear indication that these countries are not against China and neither are their populaces, despite what the CTA like to tell others. Click to enlarge.

There might have been a time when India could have leveraged the presence of the Dalai Lama on its soil fully, using this soft power to consolidate its position amongst its neighbors but that time has passed. As the Dalai Lama’s stock continues to decline with an increasing number of nations refusing to meet with him, and as the Tibetan community dwindles and splinters into different factions, the power of the ‘Tibet card’ is increasingly unattractive, in large part thanks to the CTA’s own efforts to divide and conquer their community. So religious conference or not, regardless of the Tibetan leadership’s best efforts, China will, without doubt, end up with a 15th Dalai Lama; she already has the 11th Panchen Lama with no other contender in sight, and it appears Ogyen Trinley Dorje is now out of reach, being increasingly unwilling to cooperate with the CTA. In any case, the Karmapa card seems now to be a lost opportunity for India and the CTA. With more calls for India to close ‘Tibetan file’ and move on, one thing is clear: the Tibetan cause is lost, and the CTA seems now to be in free fall.

  1. It is about time for us Indians to move on from our freeloader pest Tibetans. They have been in our country for over 60 years now and they still want to continue to stay and leech off us more! They even have the audacity to announce to the world that they will need 50 more years to get back their country. How about moving out of India first then only think about how to use 50 more years to get back their country?

Why does India need to waste our land and resources on them which is proven to be no benefit to us at all? The Tibetans are an arrogant bunch of people and they look down on Indians, the people who saved them from war and from the life of being a war prisoner. Why do we have to be so nice to them while they are being extra nasty to us?

We Indians deserve much more attention from our own government and why is that the Tibetans get to have a share of that too? Our people are dying from hunger on the streets while the Tibetans are flying all across the globe asking for donations and then look down on us by refusing to be part of India after using Indian facilities for 60 years? Why is our government is allowing this?

  2. “What does Empress Cixi and the 14th Dalai Lama have in common?”

His Holiness the Dalai Lama has a ‘method’ in his very powerful rule.

The Dalai Lama will always say it is not up to him and it’s up to his people. He gave up his power to the people. But it is not really up to his people. His people and his parliament must seek his approval for all decisions or carry out his will. If you ask his people do they want a 15th Dalai Lama after him, they have to say yes as the current one (14th) is watching them and you have to be politically correct to say yes. Who dares to say no? You don’t want to displease him. Who dares to say we want genuine democratically elected leaders. Remember, none of the Dalai Lamas were ever democratically elected (the penny drops). All the Dalai Lamas sit in power on the throne till the end of their lives.

Also how the next Dalai Lama will be found, the current Dalai Lama will definitely set the mechanics during his lifetime and then sit back and say, it’s the people who wanted it this way. It’s the people who wanted another Dalai Lama. Of course they have to say that. If they say they don’t want another Dalai Lama after this one, it is tantamount to treason. It will offend the current Dalai Lama and make him upset. In order for a stateless leader like himself to continue to get millions in aid for free as he has been for 60 years, he must appear democratic. How will he get money to support his vast expenditure of his lama court, if no free donations in the millions are given? So behind the scenes, Dalai Lama pulls all the strings but in front, he acts like he is doesn’t know anything and not involved and his elected leaders are running the show. Nothing can be further from the truth. Just like the last empress Cixi of China. She always enthrones little emperors handpicked by her from her royal family and extended families and controlled their power and ruled China from behind them as their regent during their adolescence. As a woman she could not be the emperor or ruler of all China, so she was clever and put young kids she chose from her royal families on the throne to be their regent and controlled them from behind the gauze curtain. She was suppose to hand power back to them when they reach the age of maturity to rule China, but she never did. She would place the young emperors on the throne during audiences and sit behind a curtain and dictate orders to the ministers in the name of the emperor as their regent. So in this way, she was acting in the name of the emperor (regent), but actually she was in full control. When time came to hand power over to the emperor, she would have them poisoned. Then place another new very young emperor on the throne. She did this for decades.

She was literally the power behind the throne. She could not be dethroned in this way yet she held all power. Like this, she ruled China till her death which was near impossible for any woman to do so. The last emperor Puyi she placed on the throne before the kingdom fell to civil war. (This spawned the movie by director Bernardo Bertolucci “The Last Emperor” and the emperor was played by John Lone.) When time came for the maturing emperors to take actual power from Dowager Cixi during her regencies, she would have them poisoned and install another young emperor and continue to be the regent. In this way, she stayed in power. She didn’t get a chance to poison Puyi because she passed away (rode the dragon to heaven) during his adolescence.

The other only female ‘emperor’ in Chinese history is We Xetian (Empress Wu). Another very incredibly intelligent woman who beat the men around her at their own game and ruled China as a woman.

The Dalai Lama started the Dorje Shugden ban. It came from him and only he can start it. But now he says, it is not him. Because it would make him look bad if he admits the ban came from him which it did. He claims everyone in the monasteries took a vote and they voted Dorje Shugden out. Ignorant western audiences wouldn’t know any better. They had no choice but to vote Dorje Shugden out or the abbots of the monasteries would be dishonorably discharged by the Dalai Lama himself. He places them in power and he can remove them. All Abbots of the great Gelug Monasteries are chosen by the Dalai Lama himself. He can remove them from power anytime, therefore the abbots are frightened of the Dalai Lama. Dalai Lama says he just advised to not practice Shugden, but his people, the abbots in charge, the monasteries took it to another step and outlawed Dorje Shugden and it’s the will of the people. So his ban on Shugden appears democratic. It was up to them. But it is not. He rules behind a ‘gauze’ curtain that he handed his power over to his personal ‘Puyi’ (Lobsang Sangay).

The Dalai Lama cannot show the world he is in full charge, because he would be seen as a dictator and therefore lose all free aid money which he and his government subsist on. Dalai Lama is behind the gauze and holds all power and Lobsang Sangay ‘Puyi’ is on the throne. Strangely similar to Empress Cixi. If Lobsang Sangay does things that does not please the Dalai Lama, you can bet your bottom dollar, he will be dethroned. Again, no Dalai Lama was ever democratically voted into a lifetime of power.

  3. Everything Mountain says is so true. The institution of the Dalai Lama is anything but democratic. Even though the Dalai Lama is seen to have stepped down, everybody knows it is still him that pulls Lobsang Sangay’s strings.

And now that India is mending relationships with China, the Tibetan ’cause’ and the Central Tibetan Administration have become irrelevant. There is nowhere else for the Dalai Lama and the CTA to seek support except for certain anti-China groups within the U.S. and a few Western governments.

It’s sad that they had to even go down that road. It’s a slippery road to Avici.

The Tibetans in exile should wake up and see how useless the CTA really is.

The myth of India's Tibet Card (Full)

  4. The Tibetans have stayed in India for the past 60 years but they have not contributed much to India. They have a lot of funding from the west and at the same time, they also receive a lot of benefits/subsidy from the Indian government. They are the luckiest refugees in the whole wide world.

However, the Tibetans are very greedy and ungrateful. First of all, they don’t contribute anything back to India, they continue to exploit India. Secondly, knowing that India is trying to have a better relationship with China, the CTA still continues to condemn China and protest against China in India. As a result, there is not much progress in the relationship between India and China.

By protecting the Tibetans and continue to maintain a very close relationship with them does not bring benefit to India at all. India and China are the most powerful Asian countries now. If they work together, they can become the big brothers of the region and the world. It will be wise for India to just move on without the Tibetans in the picture.

  5. ‘Karmapa’ Ogyen Trinley no longer recognised by Indian govt as 17th Karmapa. Indian government is not happy he did not show respect to India for all the years he took refuge in India. He simply renounced his Indian protectorate papers and took a Dominican republic passport. He could have had the courtesy to let Indian government know beforehand and thank them.

‘Dorje no longer recognised by Indian govt as 17th Karmapa’
    Indrani Bagchi | TNN | Dec 28, 2018, 04:00 IST
    HIGHLIGHTS
Given its apparent disenchantment with the Karmapa, the government is no longer seeing his decision to acquire a Dominican passport as a problem and is willing to give him a visa.
This could mean that India will no accord much importance to the status of his identity certificate, the document commonly issued to Tibetan refugees, which also facilitates travel abroad.
NEW DELHI: The already strained ties between Karmapa Ugyen Trinley Dorje and the Indian government seems to have further deteriorated with the government making it clear that it does not recognise him as the legitimate Buddhist religious leader of the influential karma kagyu sect.
The sharp put down, articulated by well-placed sources, makes the status and future of the Karmapa uncertain in India and seems to indicate that India’s impatience with his long absence from India has turned into a colder indifference to the leader’s claim to his “traditional” seat of the Rumtek monastery.
Given its apparent disenchantment with the Karmapa, the government is no longer seeing his decision to acquire a Dominican passport as a problem and is willing to give him a visa. This could mean that India will not accord much importance to the status of his identity certificate, the document commonly issued to Tibetan refugees, which also facilitates travel abroad.
There are legal and political aspects to the development. Since there are competing claims to the Rumtek monastery that are sub judice, India cannot pronounce on the Karmapa’s claim. However, politically, keeping the Karmapa in its zone of influence and supporting his presence here makes India a “guardian” of a religious leader seen to rank next to the Dalai Lama in importance.
The government’s stand is at odds with the Dalai Lama, who has recognised Dorje as the legitimate Karmapa. In recent years, the Indian government had also shed its suspicions about Karmapa’s escape from China along with his older sister and a few followers. But for more than a year after Karmapa went to the US, he has avoided returning and has in fact complained that he finds restrictions on his travel irksome.
The rival claimant to the post, Thaye Dorje, who had been placed as a Karmapa claimant by Shamar Rimpoche, recently renounced monkhood and got married, diluting his claim since the title calls for celibacy.
The two claimants had riven the Karma Kagyu sect, though according to reports, an attempt was made to bridge the divide with Ugyed Trinley Dorje and Trinley Thaye Dorje meeting at a place on the France-Switzerland border in October.
Ugyen Trinley Dorje’s situation became tenuous after he took a passport from the commonwealth of Dominica in the Caribbean. Sources said Dorje’s acquiring of a foreign passport automatically makes the Tibetan identity certificate (IC) invalid. This means, he would need a visa to enter India.
The Indian government, according to sources, have conveyed to the Karmapa willingness to issue him a visa. “But he has not approached any Indian mission for a visa,” they said.
Indian security agencies have been suspicious of him for years, branding him a Chinese spy, particularly as China so readily recognised him. In 2016, the Modi government however, eased travel restrictions for him and he was allowed to travel overseas.
This throws into confusion not only the future of the Karma Kagyu sect of which Dorje is believed to be the head, but would have implications for India-China and India-Tibet relations in the longer term.

Dorje no longer recognised by Indian govt as 17th Karmapa

  6. Yes, the CTA is going to collapse very soon! Look at what the Karmapa did recently. He got himself a Dominican passport and he is not going back to India! The Karmapa was very unhappy with how the CTA was controlling him and he was not able to receive the education that he expected. All this while, he has been living in a Gelug monastery, not even a Kagyu monastery. Why does the CTA and the Dalai Lama want to keep Karmapa so close to them?

The CTA must have planned it long ago for Karmapa to take over the Dalai Lama’s position when the Dalai Lama passed away. The CTA does not have the power over the Tibetans, only religious head like the Dalai Lama or Karmapa has the capability to command the people. Since the CTA does not have the Panchen Lama, the next best choice will be the Karmapa.

The Karmapa lineage has never been involved in politics before. It is not surprising that the current Karmapa feels so unhappy living under the control of the CTA and forced to get involved in the political scene. The Karmapa is rebellious in the sense that he ran away from the CTA, he had a meeting with the other Karmapa and he did not go back to India to participate in the conference as promised. This may also be a sign that the CTA is losing its power and will collapse soon.

  7. As the so-called spiritual head of Tibetan Buddhists, the Dalai Lama strictly abstains from drinking alcohol in accordance to traditional monastic codes. However, it has recently been reported that the religious leader owns his own vineyard in Switzerland! Apparently, various celebrities, including the likes of Roger Moore, Sepp Blatter and Zinedine Zidane have all made trips to the vineyard. What will people say when they find out that a Buddhist monk, who promotes abstinence from alcohol, owns a vineyard that produces wine for sale? This is certainly not going to sit well with his image of a religious leader and member of the Buddhist monastic order.

  8. There is no benefit for India to keep the Dalai Lama and the Tibetans in India. India has supported the Tibetans for the past 60 years and what have the Tibetans given back to India for their kindness? So far, they only give more problems to India. They have no value to India.

Internally India has its own issue to resolve; externally they need to maintain a good relationship with China. The Dalai Lama and the Tibetans are not helping in any way. Because of the Dalai Lama, the India-China relationship is not improving. India could have used their resources for the Indians instead of allocating the lands to the Tibetans.

However, the CTA doesn’t seem to realise they don’t have much value to India and yet they still want to create trouble for India. The Dalai Lama from time to time makes explosive comments on Indian’s internal affairs and the CTA allows the Tibetans to protest against China in India which creates a negative impact on the India-China relationship.

  9. Dear Tibetan government-in-exile (Dharamsala),

Sharmapa Rinpoche is the highest authority in the Karma Kagyu after Karmapa. By age-old tradition, Sharmapa is the one that confirms the real incarnation of Karmapa. He recognized Thaye Dorje as the genuine Karmapa. But Dalai Lama endorsed Orgyen Trinley as the real Karmapa. Dalai Lama is a great lama but there has never been a tradition of him recognizing a Karmapa.

Both ‘Karmapas’ have big followings in and out of Tibet. So which one should we follow? We have to follow the genuine Karmapa. If we follow the fake one, we will get fake teachings, fake lineage and no results. We can even take rebirth in the lower realms.

Only the Tibetan leaders can tell us which is the real Karmapa. You have told us which one is the real Panchen Lama. We follow the Panchen of your choosing. Since then we have condemned China and condemned the fake Panchen Lama. Now it is the same situation with Karmapa. We have denounced the fake Karmapa and ask him to step down. He is destroying the Karma Kagyu Lineage.

This issue has torn the Karma Kagyu sect in half. There are many who are so confused and some gave up Tibetan Buddhism altogether because of this. We must solve the confusion. This does not look good for the Tibetan government in exile because the confusion was started by Tibetan government. I support Dalai Lama and Tibetan government. But so many of us need to know the real Karmapa already. Don’t remain silent. Which one is the real Karmapa.

Tibetan government in exile, you have created two Gelugs (Pro-Dorje Shugden and against), you have created two Panchen Rinpoches, two Karmapas, two Dromo Geshe Rinpoches, two Kundeling Rinpoches and so on. When are you going to solve all the confusion. You are destroying Tibetan Buddhism.

  10. Very significant

A hair cutting ceremony can be done when someone is going to be a monk. Or when a person is being recognized as a tulku. Besides that, it’s rare there are hair cutting ceremonies for others reasons except for certain pujas.

Also the master who does the hair cutting should be someone of ‘high standing’, greatly respected and if possible a high lama with blessings. Many attendants of young tulkus will seek hair cutting ceremony with the highest or very respected lamas of their lineage. Many like to get this done by HH the Dalai Lama these days. So it is very unusual that Karmapa Thaye Dorje has his son’s hair cutting done by Luding Khenchen Rinpoche who is Sakya and not even Karma Kagyu which Karmapa Thaye Dorje belongs to. This signifies a few things:

    1. Definitely Karmapa Thaye Dorje’s son is not becoming a monk at such a tender age. So the hair cutting signifies it is a incarnate lama or tulku.

    2. To have his son’s hair cut should be done by Dalai Lama but instead they have this done by Luding Khenchen Rinpoche shows an outright avoidance of Dalai Lama.

    3. Also Karmapa Thaye Dorje is telling Dalai Lama and CTA (Tibetan govt in exile) that they don’t need them. Karmapa Thaye Dorje does not need Dalai Lama or CTA to make it. They will be fine on their own. It is a very strong message to everyone.

Remember, the Karmapa Thaye Dorje has never taken one single photo with the Dalai Lama. Why is that? Because Karmapa Thaye Dorje and followers reject the Dalai Lama.

  11. The Tibetan community know that Lobsang Sangay is a hungry jackass wanting power and will do whatever it takes to remain in power. However, Tibetans are afraid to speak up and do anything fearing reprisal from Lobsang Sangay. An example is the Dorje Shugden controversy that leads to suffering brought onto the Tibetans.

India has been more than kind to the CTA because of the Dalai Lama but with so many problems that the CTA is creating, it is no surprise that India’s kindness and generosity has reached its limit. It would benefit India more to be friendlier with China than supporting the CTA, taking into account the waning popularity of the Dalai Lama in the international scenes.

  12. I totally agree with closing the Tibetan file as they are burdening India and they are ungrateful to their host. With the arguments Lobsang Sangay had with Dalai Lama is showing us that the CTA is falling very very soon.

  13. Should I say, someone started to show his true colour? Or someone started to face the karma? Whatever this Lobsang Sangay did and does is really showing very ungrateful. Not only to his host country, but to his predecessor the 14th Dalai Lama. Without Dalai Lama, he wouldn’t be here today collecting money from the world to put into his pocket. Without India’s generosity, he wouldn’t even have a place to climb! Come on India, wake up! Why do you have to give in to Tibet and Lobsang Sangay, who is Lobsang Sangay to you? Just kick him out of the country!

  14. CTA of Tibetans leadership is like leeches. After using Dalai Lama’s influence to collect donations and staying in India for 60 years, Lobsang Sangay is now putting the blame onto Dalai Lama for the failure to regain Tibet’s freedom. On wonder why Dalai Lama expressed of returning to Tibet few months back. Could be caused by CTA’s own failings too. Corrupt and badly runned administration; its times are numbered. India should seriously contemplate to oust them from their soil.

  15. This is how CTA react when they failed in their attempt and the worst thing is accused DL of their failure!! CTA is really unconscionable and ingratitude. Serve them right for CTA is losing their main shelter and power. India is doing right choice. So long, Lobsang Sangay…

  16. Keep holding the Tibetan card will not serve any good at this time for India. The time for this card had past. Many countries would want to be ally with China instead of going against him just for Tibetan cause. After 60 years what actually the Tibetan leadership had done to show the world that they are worth to be helped? Instead we are keep seeing more and more dirty laundry surfacing as reported.

The time has change and India realized what is important for the development for their country and for long term sustainable. Tibetan leadership should learn this and realize their situation too as what important is to look after their people welfare and future. Why the Tibetan after 60 years still at the stagnant situation or I would say rather moving backwards in India is because the Tibetan leadership only look after themselves.

  17. In current situation of CTA, is better tfor CTA o close file. CTA has out of control what they should do to benifit Dalai Lama and tibetan refugee. Since Lobsang Sangye does not follow Dalai Lama wish, why need CTA. No one respect them even the their own refugee which they had supress and use by CTA to get money to collect money. It just too much for tibetan sef through CTA over 60 years.

  18. In the last 50 years Tibetan leadership has been having good friendship with the West to receive hundreds of millions in financial aid for Tibetan refugees but you can’t see that help Tibet in any way because Tibetan in exile in India still suffering and not much progress or improvement of their life for the last 60 years. That is one thing I can say is Tibetan leadership keeps criticising China was actually for their own financial gain within the exile leadership rather that helping the Tibet. However India leadership knew that they need to be friendly with China in order to benefit their people because China is the world second largest economic. This is the leadership of a country who care for their peoples. If CTA wants to be success, the first thing is to unite inside first before they can negotiate with China including unite all the religion beliefs and not ban religion practice such like ban Dorje Shugden practice.

  19. Leave it to cta and LS to do the work and this is what u get. Nothing. Always shooting themselves on the foot. If they are pinning this on DL then they are undoubtedly the coward. Failure to do anything for TIE for 60 years, so what do you do? Find someone to blame and take the fall for it. Brilliant idea cta. How about that for an admin group who was supposed to help the cause. Hopeless and useless.

  20. Something needs to fall before it can rise higher, in this case, CTA has to go ASAP.

    Taut Rope Breaking Apart

  21. Since India welcomed the Tibetan refugees and their leader the Dalai Lama in 1959, the world has changed.

Objectively so has the CTA and the Dalai Lama, but the sad thing to note is that the change had not been in compliance to the new world order.

The world leaders now seek cooperation and harmonious relationship and in desiring to do so are prepared to sit down and work their differences out. Such is the case so that the citizens of the world will lead a better quality of life.

In contrast, the Central Tibetan Authority with Dalai Lama have created disunity and schism among their people, like in the instance of the Ban on propitiation of Protector Dorje Shugden.

Schism and division between 2 sets of High Lamas, the Panchen Lama and the Karmapas.

It is wise for India to stop being so benevolent with the CTA and Tibetan refugees and not be drawn into the infighting which will be disadvantageous to India.

The world has changed CTA and Dalai Lama and your current disagreeing with each other will further diminish the Tibetan cause. Not that the Tibetan cause is of any reverence.

  22. If CTA cannot keep up to what the rest of the world leaders working forward to, and still going on and on with his way, the can only see the down fall of the Tibetan exile community, where the Tibetan themselves are not supporting anymore. I think people are not stupid all the time. The Tibetan are being used for decades, for the benefits of the leaders. The CTA only interested on their own interests. Even those high Lamas are leaving. They do not see the future and when the high lamas are leaving, what does it means? Why leaving because they lost hope. They do not see the spiritual growth, need not talk about economic growth. Tibetans in exile are constantly poor. Hence the only way to survive is to be India citizens or leave. Who cares any more??

  23. I’ve been operating an online hate group on FB against the NKT. I use to be a part of that organization. I loved my guru Geshe Kelsang, but I didn’t like some of the underlings who ran the organization. I was there for over a decade and it was time for me to be given a position of a teacher and have the respect I felt I deserved. I didn’t get what I wanted and I felt angry and slighted. It reminded me of my abandonment issues I’ve had throughout my life. I’ve never belonged anywhere and people usually left me and I just couldn’t stand it. I got my personal emotional issues mixed up with my spiritual direction. I projected my personal issues onto my teacher and the organization and I have done that so many times in my life ruining good situations.

I left NKT and told whoever would listen to me who I was abused in NKT. I started a FB page to encourage other ‘victims’ to speak out against NKT. Being the vast organization that NKT is, it was not difficult to find other people who had left for one reason or another and had things to say against NKT. Our little group even got close to some of the events coordinators of the Dalai Lama and we were given a chance to take pictures with Dalai Lama which we promptly did. The photo with the Dalai Lama we thought gave us some validation towards our stance against NKT-but it backfired. It gave us a high to have a photo with the Dalai Lama but after a while we realized we can never be close to the Dalai Lama. We can never get the care and amount of teachings we use to get from Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. Being close to the Dalai Lama is like celebrity worship not so much as having a personal guru who is there for us.

I regret opening my FB page as it vented out my rage and it was the platform for many other people who had blame and anger issues to collect vast amounts of negative karma. We were never able to have any cases or legal suits against NKT with all of our bantering because there was nothing substantial or genuine in the so called abuses we claimed we received while in NKT. NKT continues to grow while the rest of us who left are nowhere in life. Nowhere in our spiritual practice and just living empty lives. For me I’ve gotten tired of the page I’ve started and FB and it’s a horrendous effort to go there to post things or read any comments. Barely anyone visits the page anyways these days. How much can people vent out their anger at someone or something which is not to blame in the first place?

I don’t have the courage to apologize to my teacher or rejoin NKT because I am a coward. I’ve always been a coward looking for the easy way out. But I am thinking about it. I realize my mistakes. I realized my mistakes which comes from me.

  24. It is very obvious and logical for India to be tired of Tibetans in their country and creating problems for 60 years. Which country is willing to accept refugees to live on their land for 60 years without any contribution to their country?

Now that China is one of India’s interest, Tibetans will be out of the picture very soon. China has been giving India problems ever since Tibetans took refuge in India. China had grown to be one of the most powerful countries in the world and India would very much like to work with China to improve their economy and power too.

Tibetans who are not contributing anything at all for 60 years will be seen as an obstacle for them to achieve their collaboration with China. Soon, India will choose to let go of Tibetans and they will be forced to go back to China eventually. Tibetans should just leave India before India take action on them and it won’t be nice if they do.

  25. India has always wanted the Tibetans to leave India. Honestly speaking, who will want a refugee that keeps on taking their resources without contributing anything back for 60 years. India has been very patient with the Tibetans even when they created a lot of problems for India to have a good relationship with China.

India has welcomed the Tibetans warmly 60 years ago and gave them free land and resources for them to rebuild their community in India. The Tibetans were fighting for the independence of Tibet and promised that they will go back to Tibet soon. However, 60 years had passed and there is almost no progress on the Free Tibet movement.

In fact, it is much harder for them to get Tibet back because now that China had grown to be so powerful and they have invested so much in Tibet. It is just not possible for China to just hand Tibet back to them on a silver platter. The Tibetan leadership had lost their chance to fight for the independence of Tibet by not aggressively fight for it when they just fled the country and China’s grip on Tibet is still unstable. It is far too late now. Tibet will forever remain part of China.

  26. Karmapa Thaye Dorje Ignores the Dalai Lama

    (1) Decades ago, the Shamarpa asked the Dalai Lama to endorse Thaye Dorje as the Karmapa. Shamarpa proved to the Dalai Lama that Thaye Dorje was the Karmapa. The Dalai Lama still refused as it will make the Dalai Lama look bad for endorsing Ogyen Trinley. ~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJJXYAz3Bz0

It is known that Tai Situ Rinpoche recognized Ogyen Trinley by stealth. Tai Situ Rinpoche used the Dalai Lama’s fame to promote his Ogyen Trinley candidate in order to secure the Karmapa wealth of many generations.

    (2) Even though the Dalai Lama endorsed Ogyen Trinley as Karmapa, Thaye Dorje could not be restrained and continues to grow immensely in popularity all over the world. Even without the Dalai Lama’s endorsement, the Karmapa Thaye Dorje is growing in importance. Tai Situ Rinpoche thought that without the Dalai Lama’s endorsement, the Karmapa Thaye Dorje would fall and become nothing. He was wrong.

    (3) Shamarpa Rinpoche had asked the Dalai Lama to at least ordain Thaye Dorje as a monk when he was very young and the Dalai Lama refused. This refusal hurt Shamarpa and the Karmapa Thaye Dorje very much. The Dalai Lama sidelined Shamarpa Rinpoche and Thaye Dorje. It was a grievous insult and detrimental interference. In the Karma Kagyu tradition it is the Shamarpa who is the first and foremost to recognize the Karmapas and only in his absence do other regents recognize the Karmapas. Not only did the Dalai Lama interfere in Karma Kagyu affairs but the Dalai Lama took sides. That caused so much fighting and disharmony within the Karma Kagyu school of Buddhism. Tai Situ Rinpoche was wrong not to consult with Shamarpa Rinpoche in all of this.

    (4) The Dalai Lama had no business interfering in Karma Kagyu traditions by recognizing a Karmapa. In the history of the Karma Kagyu school, there has not been one Karmapa recognized by a Dalai Lama nor did they ever need the Dalai Lama’s endorsement. This interference by the Dalai Lama has caused the Karma Kagyu school to take two sides and broke them up and created much disharmony. The disharmony, fighting and mud-slinging as to which one is the real Karmapa has continued to this day in 2019.

    (5) Shamarpa Rinpoche passed away in 2014 and it is up to the Karmapa to recognize his incarnation without the endorsement or interference of the Dalai Lama.

    (6) Now the Karmapa Thaye Dorje recognizes his son born in 2018 as Shamarpa Rinpoche’s incarnation and he does not ask the Dalai Lama to endorse this incarnation. He does not need it. The Dalai Lama has done enough damage. This will shift the dynamics of the Karma Kagyu school again in favor of the Shamarpa Rinpoche’s side. Unfortunately, it will make Ogyen Trinley look strange and left out in the cold. Within the Kagyu school, the Shamarpa is the next highest incarnation after the Karmapa. The Karmapas always recognized Shamarpas and vice versa. It shows that the Karmapa Thaye Dorje has the full authority to recognize the next highest incarnation within their school on his own. This Shamarpa will be spiritually trained by the Karmapa Thaye Dorje himself without the influence of the aged Dalai Lama and his government-in-exile which most Karma Kagyus consider a regime.

    (7) During the Kagyu Monlam prayers in Bodhgaya on January 2019, Thaye Dorje was there leading the Monlam (New Year’s prayers) and so was the Dalai Lama in Bodhgaya, giving teachings in another location nearby. The Dalai Lama, while in Bodhgaya, wanted to meet Thaye Dorje but Thaye Dorje refused. Thaye Dorje avoided the Dalai Lama. It was an insult to the Dalai Lama that he had to accept for all the damage he had done in their Karmapa affair and Karma Kagyu school.

The Dalai Lama had sidelined Shamarpa and Thaye Dorje when asked to endorse Thaye Dorje decades ago. Now that the Karmapa Ogyen Trinley has run away to the USA, the Dalai Lama wants to be friendly with Thaye Dorje so that he can get on the Karma Kagyu school’s good side. Without the Dalai Lama’s permission, the two Karmapas met in France and decided to mend the rift. This will make the Dalai Lama look bad. Even the Dalai Lama did not think in such a big way or a middle way to help mend the rift. Too bad and too late for the Dalai Lama to make friends with the Karma Kagyu school of Buddhism.

So much damage has been done. But the Karmapa Thaye Dorje is on the way to mending all this.

  27. Contemplate this:

Indian journalists sound desperate when they talk about terrorist attacks on India. As this article correctly states, there is little that India can do to address terrorism as they seem to operate from Pakistan. To deal with the terrorists, Indians will have to literally attack Pakistan which it cannot do.

Well, there is something India can do which is to stop Dharamsala’s terrorist activities against China being executed from Indian soil. The Tibetans have been attacking China for decades, yet they say they wish to return to Tibet. How do you return to a place you constantly criticize? The Dalai Lama is literally begging China to allow him to visit the Five Peaks of Manjushri pilgrimage site in China and also his birthplace in Amdo, Tibet. But if the Dalai Lama keeps criticizing China, why would they sit at the bargaining table with him? India allows for all of this to happen on Indian soil, so that would irritate China.

Yet India wants concessions from China on the terrorist issue. Meanwhile, Beijing equates Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) leader Hafiz Saeed to India supporting the Dalai Lama against China for five decades now. Furthermore, India wants China to speak up against Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) Masood Azhar. But India does not speak up against Dalai Lama. Whether the world thinks the Dalai Lama is the good guy or not, he is a thorn in China’s side so anyone that supports him is not supporting China. Similar to the situation, LeT’s Hafiz Saeed and JeM’s Masood Azhar are a thorn in India’s side but they do not bother China and her allies, so why should China do anything about them? If India does something on the Dalai Lama, then it would be fair to ask China to do something about their support of Lashkar-e-Taiba leader Hafiz Saeed and Jaish-e-Mohammed’s Masood Azhar. Simple equation.

These reports are really bare-faced hypocrisy. It implies one nation is helpless against terrorists because the terrorists camp out in another country. But that did not stop the US from heavily bombing Iraq on the basis that it was harboring terrorists. The US did not hesitate to overthrow the government and murder its leader Saddam Hussein.

It is also very hypocritical that the same journalists who are outraged at China’s annexation of Tibet are quiet about Israel’s annexation of Palestine.

It is interesting to note that most terrorist attacks are aimed at the US and her allies. Everyone conveniently forgets that the US has been throwing their weight around for decades and can even determine which leader they want in other countries.

Back to India – if China can convince North Korea to have détente with the US, China can similarly help India with the JeM. India simply has to give up the Tibet card. The article is also a one-sided opinion piece because India faces as many terrorist threats from Bangladesh, with just as many terrorist camps, but because Bangladesh is not China, their involvement is not mentioned.

India is a great country. China and India as friends will be able to influence the globe literally economically and, eventually, militarily. But India has to play fair. By supporting the Dalai Lama, India will get nothing and furthermore, it will be a stumbling block to China’s 1.4 billion people becoming friends with India’s 1.3 billion people.

The Dalai Lama has to be compassionate and stop speaking against China because he has to consider the difficulty he places India in as his host. Each time he criticizes and allows his refugees to protest against China and ask for western support, it makes China look bad. So if the Dalai Lama wants China and India to become closer and benefit each other economically then he has to be silent on this already.

The Diplomat’s Prarthana Basu sums it up very well by saying in the article below that “Now with another terrorist attack infuriating India’s populace, the mystery behind this Chinese silence remains unsolved. While most attribute China’s apparent silence as a favor to Pakistan, as both continue to maintain their “all-weather friendship,” others argue that China holds India responsible for granting political asylum to the Tibetan leader Dalai Lama, whom Beijing equates to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) leader Hafiz Saeed.”

  28. China and India now have a lot of potentials to rise above all and become a huge power in the world. To achieve that, both of the countries will have to work with each other in harmony and they need to resolve their differences. However, there is one issue that is still unresolved until today which is the Tibetans that had taken refuge in India 60 years ago.

The Tibetan card used to be useful for India against China but now the card is useless. Since the Tibetans have no value for India, India does not need to continue to care for them. They have been leeching off India for 60 years without giving anything back. I do not think Modi would want to keep a parasite in their country any longer.

Hence, it is obvious why Modi wants His Holiness the Dalai Lama to return to China because it will solve India’s problem. Once His Holiness returns to Tibet, all the Tibetans in exile will go back to Tibet too. Then, India can collaborate with China peacefully without the need to worry about the Tibetans creating an issue with China in India.

    • Not so fast. India might want to move on but what about the land grab of South Tibet, which India invaded and annexed in 1951 (almost four years after the British Raj has left) and occupy it to this day? Tawang, South Tibet is the birthplace of the Sixth Dalai Lama and home to a four hundred years old Tibetan monastery. South Tibet is renamed to the so called Arunachal Pradesh by India in 1987. Since 2009 South Tibet is recognized as a United Nation disputed territory.

  29. There is nothing that the Tibetan government did in the past 60 years ever benefitted India. All they do is just taking care of themselves and make sure they have plenty of donations coming from western countries. There are so many times where Tibetans put India in a very difficult position with China.

They never helped Indian who are not well off in the areas around them. In fact, they are so arrogant that they think they are actually better than those poor Indians. This created a lot of anger and negative emotions in Indians. It does not make sense that a refugee in their own country will look down on them, and it is very degrading.

India will continue to ignore His Holiness the Dalai Lama and this time it will be a long time. India is trying to establish a relationship with China that will benefit both countries. They will not forego such a good opportunity to boost their economy just for the small population of Tibetans in India. When compared to the number of people in India, Tibetans are considered nothing.

  30. 1st Time Dalai Lama Finally Admits His Illness Was Serious

In the past it is customary to cover up the Dalai Lama’s illnesses. It could be to not worry his flock. It could also be to not show the world he is just another vulnerable human being. Or it could be he does not want to disappoint people to show he is not a god? Whatever the reasons, the Dalai Lama and regime are well known for covering up his serious illnesses. In the past few years he had cancer of the prostate and that was covered up till the press dug it up. Now with this new video just out April 2019, Dalai Lama admits he was recently very ill. It was serious.

Unfortunately the Tibetan cause will die with the Dalai Lama when he passes. He did nothing to groom up a new leader as he is a dictator. A ruler for life. He has been in power for over 60 years. He will never groom up another person to replace him because he is touted as a god.

  31. Unlike 5 years ago, Tibetan leader Lobsang Sangay is not invited to Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in ceremony this time. It is clear that PM Modi of India snubs the Tibetan leadership once again in favour of deeper ties with China. The Tibetan leadership finds itself increasingly isolated as nobody wants to offend China by lending any support to the ungrateful Tibetans.

PM Modi snubs Tibetan leadership for swearing-in ceremony
    By Tenzin Dharpo
    May. 30, 2019
DHARAMSHALA, May 30: The Indian Prime Minister who is fresh off of a massive win in the Indian Lok Sabha elections has done a U-turn by not inviting exile Tibetan government’s President to the swearing in ceremony due to be held later today, in a bid to not anger Beijing.
The President of the exile Tibetan government, known officially as the Central Tibetan Administration, Dr. Lobsang Sangay’s absence today at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi marks a stark contrast to 2014 when the elected Tibetan leader was seated in the former rows at the ceremony when PM Modi was sworn into office the first time around.
The invitation to Dr. Sangay in May 2014 drew strong objection from the Chinese government who lodged an official protest censuring New Delhi’s disregard for the so-called ‘One-China policy’. Many said at the time that the invite was posturing at most, of Modi’s intent to India’s neighbor and biggest rivals both in Asia and global arenas.
The New Delhi-Beijing relations post the Doklam stand off and Wuhan summit has meant that India has given a cold shoulder to the exile Tibetan set up, thereby taking a step back in using the much-touted ‘Tibet card’. The shift in policy has markedly been seen on the ground with New Delhi issuing an advisory to senior leaders to avoid His Holiness the Dalai Lama or pushing the CTA to shift the “thank you India” ceremony from New Delhi to Dharamshala last year.
The head of the Tibetan polity who extended pleasantries to PM Modi on his win, however may have anticipated the snub. Days after Modi’s historic election win, Sangay flew to the United States and is scheduled to return on June 5 to India next week.

  32. The writing is on the wall for the Tibetan Leadership in Exile. India, their host country, looks set to act on the warming up of relationships between it and China. It is crucial for India , in the long term, to play its card with China well. The Indian authorities’ dealings with the Tibetan leadership are proving more and more to be a thorn in the flesh, as Lobsang Sangay refuses to bow to the changing world scenario of Tibet being recognised by more and more countries to be a part of China. It will be unwise for India to continue to use the “Tibetan card” to provoke China.

Hence, the postponement of the 13th religious conference is an indication of larger and more long-term issues like the above. It is time for the Tibetan leadership to play the Tibetan unity card and lift the ban on Dorje Shugden practice. Lobsang Sangay and the Tibetan leadership should drop their belligerence towards China and instead seek to improve relationships with China before the Indian government decides to “close the Tibetan file”!

  33. India is clever for prioritizing their relationship with China over their relationship with the Tibetans. China can provide so many benefits to Indian citizens while CTA only causes problems for the Indian government. CTA has been free-loading in India for the past 60 years and they did nothing to get out of their situation. They planned to continue to be in India forever until China decide to miraculously hand them back their country, Tibet.

CTA had wasted the past 60 years doing nothing to achieve Tibetan cause and they are just waiting for a miracle to drop from the sky. Instead of focusing on how to connect with China to negotiate with them to get Tibet back, they do all kinds of petty things such as Dorje Shugden ban for power game and for their own benefits.

They created such a mess in the Tibetan community which resulted in a lot of disharmonies. Hence, Tibetan are not united now and they always fight among each other. Tibetans can even create a scene at the celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday who is highly revered by them. From this, we can see the level of mindset of the Tibetans have.

  34. It is clear that why India decided to put China as a priority over the Tibetans. Since 1959, the Tibetans had been giving problems to India government. The Indians have been nothing but kind towards the Tibetans but in return, the ungrateful Tibetans did not give anything back to the Indians for 60 years.

When China rises above all and became one of the most powerful countries in the world with her humongous economy, India decided that it is time to reconcile its differences with China to gain profit and benefit to further strengthen their country.

Tibetan in exile should learn their lesson and make up their mind and leave Tibetan settlements for good. There is nothing there for them and they should know it better. They should leave and fight for a better future instead of waiting for their useless government to fight for the Tibetan cause. The cause is dead and there is no way CTA can ever get China to let go of Tibet.

  35. India is very kind to host Tibetans for the past 60 years. There is no doubt that the presence of the Dalai Lama and other high lamas have helped to bring tourists to India but what Tibetans have contributed to India is nothing compared to what India has given to them.

India is working very hard to resolve the conflicts and disagreements with China so that their relationship can improve and they can work together to grow stronger and make Asia the next superpower. When Asia has become the next superpower, Asians cannot be bullied or suppressed by the westerners anymore. We have been bullied by the western powers for more than a century, this has to be changed.

The CTA is so selfish that its members of parliament only look at what they can get. They don’t realise if Asia becomes strong, they will get even bigger benefits. All I can say is the CTA is short-sighted, selfish and backward. They are ungrateful because they are not helping India to improve its relationship with China. They could have done this as a gesture of appreciation instead of organising the “Thank you India” event which is a waste of money and so superficial.

  36. The CTA really does not have bargaining power. People who support them will not get any benefit from them and the CTA expects these people to give them financial support because they are political victims. Tibetans have been living like a beggar for the past 60 years, they don’t understand they have to work hard to build their country and economy.

Who has the money to continue to support the CTA and the Tibetans for long? They are a burden! They leech on India for 60 years and expect India to keep giving them support. They are really taking things for granted! Why do the Tibetans think India should support them forever?

It is for sure that Tibet will never be an independent state, the CTA and Lobsang Sangay should just forget about the Free Tibet movement and follow what the Dalai Lama wants, i.e., to get the autonomous status for Tibet. But apparently, Lobsang Sangay does not respect the Dalai Lama, he even argue with the Dalai Lama!

  37. India has hosted Tibetan for the last 60 years, it is a very long time. After 60 years of hosting, there is no result in Free Tibet movement. There is no clear plan from the Tibetan leadership how to move forward. How much longer does the Tibetans want India to host them for?

Tibetans are using the resources in India but never contribute anything to their tax system. Yet, the Tibetans are not happy, they still want more help from the Indian government. At the same time, they are creating problems to the Indian government by condemning China.

Tibetans will not be satisfied, they have live a life a beggar for the past 60 years. Money comes easy for them, they will not work hard for it. They will continue to use Tibet issue to beg for free money.

  38. Tibetan in India has created so much trouble and unpeace situation not only to their own Tibetans but also to their host, India. If we look at what CTA and Dalai Lama doing, we can’t see what actually they want to achieve. All their actions are contradicting.

For example, Tibetan is refugees in India. What a leader would do is to unite their people and take good care of them but what the Tibetan leadership did was impose a religious ban on their own people, discriminate them and even act violently towards their own Tibetan. What kind of leaders is this? One hand they ask for freedom for their country from China but on the other hand the steal away their people’s religious choice of right? What kind of democratic example are they showing?

Another example which is every spiritual lineage has its own tradition to recognize their own leader and Tibetan leadership will step in to recognize their own leader for the lineage. What kind of democracy is this?

From those few examples, we can see that Tibetan leadership is really unable to lead their people. We are just mentioning the problem created by their leaders and the list can continue ut we never see anything improvement from CTA in terms of the Tibetan welfare.

For the longest 60 years of Tibetan in India, has CTA contributed anything to India? Yet we have heard how Dalai Lama speech cause anger among the Indians. That is so weird because has Dalai Lama forgotten that he’s staying in India through the kindness of the Indian?

So you can see from here, Is there any reason for India not to close and just get rid of Tibetan?

  39. India needs to move on and cannot be drag by CTA. India is having a great relationship with China and CTA is torn between them. India already starts limiting the Tibetan movement and CTA will not have the same treatment as before. The Indian government needs to take care of their people’s feeling and CTA needs to do something in order to stay longer in India.

CTA already feels the pressure and should work out its relationship with China in order for Dalai Lama and Tibetan to return.

.…Instead of turning away people who practise Dorje Shugden, we should be kind to them. Give them logic and wisdom without fear, then in time they give up the ‘wrong’ practice. Actually Shugden practitioners are not doing anything wrong. But hypothetically, if they are, wouldn’t it be more Buddhistic to be accepting? So those who have views against Dorje Shugden should contemplate this. Those practicing Dorje Shugden should forbear with extreme patience, fortitude and keep your commitments. The time will come as predicted that Dorje Shugden’s practice and it’s terrific quick benefits will be embraced by the world and it will be a practice of many beings.
