The Tibetan Inquisition

In pursuing the ban on the practice of Dorje Shugden, fostering schism in the Kagyu tradition, as well as other instances of meddling in all four traditions of Tibetan Buddhism, the Dalai Lama is creating a modern day inquisition. As tensions in the Tibetan exile community rise, he has started to manipulate the Tibetans’ raw emotions and aim their anger against his own personal enemies.

In this video, the Dalai Lama is quoted as saying that his ban on Dorje Shugden “will be like a Cultural Revolution”, further threatening, “If those who do not accept the ban do not listen to my words, things will get worse for them. You sit and watch. It will grow worse for them.” This prompts a crowd of Tibetans (including monks!) to violently assault a group of Buddhist Shugden practitioners with stones and bricks. This incident in the video is from 1996.

There are further incidents that have transpired since then as the Dalai Lama and his supporters encourage systematic ostracism and intimidation of anyone against the Dalai Lama’s wishes. This campaign has spread from India into the West. In 2008, a mob of thousands of angry Tibetans surrounded a group of peacefully protesting Dorje Shugden practitioners and spit, harassed, and threw objects at the demonstrators.

The police were forced to evacuate the protesters. This last event happened in New York City.

This paranoid campaign of painting a picture of ‘us versus them’ is not befitting of someone claiming to be the principal teacher of Buddhism in our modern world. Such behavior is completely inappropriate for any responsible human being… let alone, a Buddhist monk.

  1. The last video is really interesting… so many sides to view from! On one hand it is wonderful that the Dalai Lama has so many supporters that really hold him dear to their hearts; on another hand it is also very wonderful that the DS practitioners who are going against the Dalai Lama’s ban are so calm and collected despite the treatment they received from the Dalai Lama’s supporters. So who are the real Dharma practitioners here? The passionate and loyal Dalai Lama supporters who reacted to the peaceful rally in anger and disrespect? Or the peaceful DS practitioners who doubt the Dalai Lama’s teachings and are calling him a liar?

Contemplate This

.…Instead of turning away people who practise Dorje Shugden, we should be kind to them. Give them logic and wisdom without fear, then in time they give up the ‘wrong’ practice. Actually Shugden practitioners are not doing anything wrong. But hypothetically, if they are, wouldn’t it be more Buddhistic to be accepting? So those who have views against Dorje Shugden should contemplate this. Those practicing Dorje Shugden should forbear with extreme patience, fortitude and keep your commitments. The time will come as predicted that Dorje Shugden’s practice and it’s terrific quick benefits will be embraced by the world and it will be a practice of many beings.
