Having Enough to Pay Bills

Hello sir,
I send my good greetings to you, and I also hope that my letter finds you well. I just wanted to thank you for being a member of a Buddhist government that does a lot to preserve Sakyamuni’s tradition in this world. It is quite a wonderful thing. There is something that I am have some trouble understanding and also I have not been able to get an answer. It is pertaining to the question of Dorje Shugden whom I understand that you have labelled to be a dolgyal.

Prior to learning of this issue, my lama asked me to practice and I have seen many benefits from this practice. My children had great difficulties in school and I could not pay their school fees so I prayed to Dorje Shugden to help. And every time a bill was coming from the school, something unexplainable would happen and I would get just enough money to pay for their bills. Maybe if their bill is US$1599, I would get exactly that amount.

So I am just wondering why a Buddhist government is suppressing a Buddhist deity. I have yet to see harm in Dorje Shugden’s practice and even when I am not consistent, he does not punish me. As I understand from Buddha’s teachings, if bad things happen to me, it is because my OWN bad karma is ripening. It is not because Dorje Shugden seeks to harm me.

How come your government does not feel it is hypocritical to take the money of Western donors like me, yet condemn us for interfering in Tibetan affairs? I am not saying that giving a lot of money means we have an overall say in Tibetan affairs, but surely we are allowed to have an opinion. At least that is what I understand democracy to be all about – everyone is entitled to an opinion, and in a democracy everyone listens to everyone (money or not). I feel that it is arrogant of the Tibetans to label Westerners as lacking in understanding of Tibetan ways, and therefore not being qualified to comment (when we’re apparently qualified enough to donate!).

Except for a few Tibetans who follow the crowd like sheep, I have not yet met any logical person who can discern with conviction, without coercion that Dorje Shugden is wrong. I am not asking you to go against the ban but just to think about your government’s actions, and whether you wish to inform the world that hypocrisy is the way of the Tibetans. It does not foster trust and will probably make your work for a free Tibet become much more difficult. I hope that you are the person of logic to make the right decisions.

  1. Thank you Gigi Leung for sharing your experience in your practice of Protector Dorje Shugden. He has helped countless people and always create favourable conditions for them to concentrate on their spiritual path. I had experienced the same too. Having enough to meet expenses when really needed. Propitiating his practice only brings benefits and I had not had any harm other than my own karma. It is indeed illogical for the Tibetan-In-Exile government (CTA) to place the ban on Dorje Shugden and his practice as he is an Enlightened Protector who arose willingly to protect Lama Tsongkapa’s precious teachings. How could the governing leaders believe Dorje Sugden should be blamed for the lost of their country due to their own fault. If Dorje Shugden had no helped the Dalai Lama to escape, he and many other attained Lamas could have been imprisoned or killed. It was due to his advice and help that the world had the fortune to receive the sacred lineage teachings from these attained Lamas. CTA must lift the ban instead of creating chaos so people can benefit and all Tibetans united for the dialogue with China. That’s the Dalai Lama’s wishes.

  2. Rejoice that you had assistance from Dorje Shugden and is aware and appreciative of his divine help. That you propitiate him says a lot of how you can sense his assistance.

But, please do not mix politics with spiritual. The CTA is coming from a very secular point of view heavy with politics in an environment where they need not really govern a country but get international monetary aid i.e. free money. The continuation of this horrible ban, despite the Dalai Lama’s softening of his stance on it and his saying that Dorje Shugden cannot harm him and anyone is free to practice, is a result of this greed and self-interest.

It is very sad that Tibetan leadershiip has degenerated to such a degree and sad too, that the lay Tibetans are unable to put reason rather than pure fanatical loyalty to the situation.

Thank you for sharing your experience with Dorje Shugden and your opinion.

Contemplate This

.…Instead of turning away people who practise Dorje Shugden, we should be kind to them. Give them logic and wisdom without fear, then in time they give up the ‘wrong’ practice. Actually Shugden practitioners are not doing anything wrong. But hypothetically, if they are, wouldn’t it be more Buddhistic to be accepting? So those who have views against Dorje Shugden should contemplate this. Those practicing Dorje Shugden should forbear with extreme patience, fortitude and keep your commitments. The time will come as predicted that Dorje Shugden’s practice and it’s terrific quick benefits will be embraced by the world and it will be a practice of many beings.
