High lamas like Gyudmed Kensur and Lama Jampa Ngodup have worked tirelessly for the benefit of others their entire lives, as they probably did in their previous incarnations. Therefore, it makes good sense that these precious and beneficial lamas’ lives should remain long, because the longer they live and manifest their works, the more sentient beings and denizens of this planet and other planets and dimensions will benefit.
The purpose of a long life puja is specifically to generate merits by which one gains longevity in one’s life, by the offering of various auspicious items that are symbolic of long life, Dharma work and growth. These items are offered up to the lamas to generate the merits, energy and create the propensity for them to remain very long in life in order to continue to benefit others.
His Eminence Kyabje Gongsar Rinpoche is himself, a high lama, but he demonstrated great humility and supreme faith by offering both Gyudmed Kensur and Lama Jampa Ngodup long life pujas. Gongsar Rinpoche showed by good example and based on ancient tradition what we should be doing to increase the lives of high lamas as well as those of our personal gurus and teachers. Not all of us can meet these high lamas, but if we have teachers and have received the Dharma, it will be the catalyst for us to transform our lives into one that is beneficial with significant potential to affect our future and destiny.
Gyudmed Kensur and Lama Jampa Ngodup show extreme kindness and a loving nature in accepting this long life puja. Just because a long life puja is offered, does not obligate the lama to accept. If the lama’s time to leave is soon, he will not accept the long life offering. So when Gyudmed Kensur and Lama Jampa Ngodup accepted this, we are indebted to them for it is only through their kindness that they choose to remain in this world, which is full of delusions and illusions, and be amongst us, the ordinary human beings.
Therefore, this is a wonderful occasion to celebrate, and we thank Kyabje Gongsar Rinpoche, Gyudmed Kensur and Lama Jampa Ngodup for having the long life offering ceremony.
May Gyudmed Kensur, Lama Jampa Ngodup, Gongsar Rinpoche, all lamas, teachers, masters have long life, health, students, sponsorship, and all necessities to fulfill the very purpose they came into this world for, which is to work for the benefit of others.
