In this book "Arrested Histories: Tibet, the CIA, and Memories of a Forgotten War" by Carole McGranahan, Duke University Press Books (October 1, 2010), it clearly recorded the incident where Chushi Gangdrug members consulted Dorje Shugden oracle during Chinese invasion in the 50s, and in 2008, they were made to swear against Dorje Shugden!!! Shame on CTA! Their evil plot of twisting the history is exposed! They are the evil one!

Book Description

In the 1950s, thousands of ordinary Tibetans rose up to defend their country and religion against Chinese troops. Their citizen army fought through 1974 with covert support from the Tibetan exile government and the governments of India, Nepal, and the United States. Decades later, the story of this resistance is only beginning to be told and has not yet entered the annals of Tibetan national history. In Arrested Histories, the anthropologist and historian Carole McGranahan shows how and why histories of this resistance army are “arrested” and explains the ensuing repercussions for the Tibetan refugee community.

Drawing on rich ethnographic and historical research, McGranahan tells the story of the Tibetan resistance and the social processes through which this history is made and unmade, and lived and forgotten in the present. Fulfillment of veterans’ desire for recognition hinges on the Dalai Lama and “historical arrest,” a practice in which the telling of certain pasts is suspended until an undetermined time in the future. In this analysis, struggles over history emerge as a profound pain of belonging. Tibetan cultural politics, regional identities, and religious commitments cannot be disentangled from imperial histories, contemporary geopolitics, and romanticized representations of Tibet. Moving deftly from armed struggle to nonviolent hunger strikes, and from diplomatic offices to refugee camps, Arrested Histories provides powerful insights into the stakes of political engagement and the cultural contradictions of everyday life.

Omg! I heard that the Chushi Gangdrug was actually formed by Dorje Shugden himself! Apparently in a trance way before the fall of Tibet, Dorje Shugden ordered a Khampa warrior to form this society. Dorje Shugden gave instructions that the society should be formed at a specific location in Tibet where there's a lake resembling a triguk - a ritual chopper. Hence, the head quarters of the Chushi Gangdrug is called Trigukthang.

As a blessing and to seal this promise, Dorje Shugden in trance took his sword and gave it. After a long period, the Khampa still couldn't find it and reported this back to Dorje Shugden in trance. Dorje Shugden flew into a divine rage and told the warrior to focus his search and not to come back to him if he fails again. The warrior prostrated and diligently searched. After looking all over, he finally found the lake and at the lake, a sword was found. The sword given by Dorje Shugden and the sword found at the lake became the emblem of Chushi Gangdruk and is seen on the flag.

Later, it was Chushi Gangdruk along with a party of monks that escorted the Dalai Lama out of Tibet. It was Dorje Shugden again that saved the Dalai Lama's life. It is amazing! If Dorje Shugden can do so much to save the Dalai Lama's life, he can do so much more for us and all he asks of us is very little - the be kind, have Guru devotion and practice the Dharma. It would be so nice is this is eventually known to the whole world.

It's interesting how the book mentions that there were times when the Dorje Shugden mediums were questionable, so they had to get high lamas to verify it. To me, it shows how everyone believed there to be a difference between the real "good thing" and other random beings.

Thanks for sharing this post Namdrol, as it shows that the Chushi Gangdrug story is not merely a story but a set-in-stone part of Tibetan history.

There are so many accounts and evidence that Dorje Shugden was the one who saved His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Dorje Shugden was the one who gave directions on how to escape safely from Tibet. Dorje Shugden was the one who fore-told that the Chinese were coming, and that the Chushi Gangdrug should be formed. Dorje Shugden was the one whom the Chushi Gangdrug relied on.

WHERE WOULD TIBETANS BE WITHOUT DORJE SHUGDEN?

For those reading this post, I would like to point out a previous post called "Do you know the mind-blowing history behind this thangka?" http://www.dorjeshugden.com/forum/index.php?topic=1515.0 and "How the Dalai Lama escaped Tibet" http://www.dorjeshugden.com/forum/index.php?topic=1640.msg21859#msg21859

There is also a video of this Sera monk who gives a recount on how the Dalai Lama sought advice from Dorje Shugden during the Chinese Invasion http://dorjeshugden.com/wp/?p=1048

This post is so exciting - how much more evidence do we need to face that the ban imposed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama isn't merely a ban.............

This applies not only to Chushi Gangdruk, but the many monks and high lamas of the monastery, who have been forced to swear in against Dorje Shugden, whom have over countless of times helped these monks and lamas. Dorje Shugden has helped HHDL with his escape from Tibet, but look at how the CTA and many followers of HHDL treat practitioners of Dorje Shugden and Dorje Shugden himself. There is no denying the numerous evidences that proves the tremendous power of Dorje Shugen, without whom, many would have not been able to be who they are today. Where would HHDL be today without Dorje Shugden? And mind you, HHDL did compose a prayer to Dorje Shugden too.

Yes, Chushi Gangdruk members may have been forced to swear in against Dorje Shugden, like many sangha members in the monasteries, but did they reallly abandon their practice? Did HHDL really abandon his practice? Only time will tell.

It states in the book that the practice of Dorje Shugden was heavily promoted by HH Pabongkha Rinpoche in the 1930s. If Pabongkha Rinpoche, who transmitted the entire teachings of the Lamrim, who had direct visions of Vajrayogini, who was Heruka himself, had much faith and confidence in the practice of Dorje Shugden, then people should too, since many of today's Gelug practitioners are influenced by Pabhongkha Rinpoche's teachings one way or another. If anyone doubts Dorje Shugden, does it not mean that they doubt Pabongkha Rinpoche too? Plus don't forget that Pabongkha Rinpoche's two main disciples are Trijang Rinpoche and Ling Rinpoche, who were both the junior and senior teachers of HHDL!

Ha another proof and evidence to which the world can now refer to that Dorje Shugden helped HHDL escape and how everything has been outwardly twisted! Thanks Namdrol for this awesome highlight!
Wonder what those silly CTAs will do now.

Yes it is true Manjushri the Great Pabongka Rinpoche was one of the most popular and erudite master during that time. Not only was Trijang Rinpoche and Ling Rinpoche was his disciples, Tathag Rinpoche was also his disciple and He was the main teacher of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama when he was a child and gave him his novice ordination. Trijang  Rinpoche and Ling Rinpoche were later appointed as the junior and senior tutors to His Holiness and Ling Rinpoche was elected to be the 97th throne holder  of the Gelugpa lineage (Gadan Tripa). Khangsar Rinpoche's Chinese disciple, Master Nan Hai, started a Buddhist movement in China that survived till the present day despite political changes in Communist China, with tens of thousands of spiritual descendants and over a hundred monasteries and nunneries throughout China.

And in here HHDL actually said: I am of the opinion that Phabongkha and Trijang Rinpoche’s promotion
of the worship of Dholgyal was a mistake. But their worship represents merely a fraction of what they did in their lives. Their contributions in the areas of Stages of the Path, Mind Training and Tantra teachings were considerable. Their contribution in these areas was unquestionable and in no way invalidated by
involvement with Dholgyal.

This is simply illogical to say the least because how can they be mistaken for Dorje Shugden but ok with the rest of the higher teachings? How could yu say the Buddha is all Enlightened but I think he made a mistake on this particular teaching?

I have seen many videos of monks saying it was Dorje Shugden's help that guided the Dalai Lama, monks, Chushi Gangdruk out of harm led them safely into India. I have not seen any written evidence or videos or any information that any monks who said otherwise. It was Dorje Shugden's initiative to push the Kham warriors to set up Chushi Gangdruk, without this push from Dorje Shugden the 14th Dalai Lama would not be able to do the work of spreading Lama Tsongkhapa's tradition all over the world. CTA you may have forgotten but not the old monks who escorted the Dalai Lama.

It is really forgotten in history as the book says because the CTA is changing history by putting their own stories. The fact that Chushi Gangdrug was formed by Dorje Shugden himself in preparation to protect the Dalai Lama out of TIbet in the time of danger. Also Dorje Shugden was the protector they seek advice on the when to go and where to go in their journey out of Tibet. How could the Chushi Gangdrug offer a promise to the Dalai Lama that they do not practice Dorje Shugden? How could they abandon Dirje Shugden when Dorje Shugden has helped them in the most dangerous of times. So, I think it is just a show to people that they are pleasing the Dalai Lama.

All of them also know that the Dalai Lama had asked for a thanka of Dorje Shugden from Trijang Rinpoche when he escaped for Tibet. But history was changed again when the Dalai Lama denied it. But the monks and the Chushi Gangdrug troops who followed the Dalai Lama out know that it is a Shugden thanka.

It's great that a book like this is published to further prove that Dorje Shugden help HHDL and Tibetans out of Tibet during the Chinese Invasion. History has been altered by people many times to cater to their political agendas. And it is these changes that create confusion and in this instance, damage to people's spirituality.

If the truth is not spoken, many people will lose out on the benefits of practising Dorje Shugden. We need more accounts like this book and all types of mass media to communicate the truth. Dissemination of information is the key to lifting the ban.

It is great that books by neutral authors are being published about the truth of Dorje Shugden. At least then, the Shugden practitioners will be spared from criticism of “trying to spread the propaganda or promoting the cause to go against His Holiness”. Of course, this was never the case, but people can have their own opinion.

I wonder what went through the Chushi Gangdruk members’ mind when they remake the promise to not practise and associate with those who practise Dorje Shugden.  Mind you, they are not just an army nor normal bodyguards as religion was an important part of them, and they entrusted the guidance and protection to the protector Dorje Shugden. It’s very disheartening that these people who have contributed so much in preserving and protecting His Holiness (and hence causing Buddhadharma to flourish) has to give up their protector, all because of politics. They have been placed in difficult situation to choose between their protector and His Holiness.

We must help to create this awareness, and let the world know about this ban that doesn’t make sense , and through that, to know about this great protector who helped His Holiness escaped from Tibet.  Then, it will shed light on the plight of those who were ostracised and forced to give up their faith and commitment in their Guru and protector.

Thats quite disgusting, swearing against the very deity whose helped you. In fact, helped you so much, to the point you now even have the most remotest chance for independence. Without Dorje Shugden, forget it - the Dalai Lama would be dead now, and there would be no independence cause at all.

But they essentially gave up an enlightened being to be seen as "correct" by a bunch of numpties who work only for the benefits of this life. So how do they expect anything that they do to fruition? How do the Tibetan people expect their bhod rangzen efforts to amount to anything, if they dont have the conviction to stick to their beliefs? NO WONDER the Chinese can sway them so easily. NO WONDER the bright lights of America can tempt them away from Dharamsala so easily.

If theres no conviction in ones beliefs, secular or spiritual, there can be no results.

I have heard accounts of how Dorje Shugden assisted HHDL and entourage escaped safely from Tibet from Shugden practitioners who are Tibetans and who have heard from living survivors who were present during the escape, and I have read materials and watched videos attesting to it. It was heart wrenching to watch these old timers narrate their stories on video. Yet, with all the live testimonies, the CTA still cover and lie for their own political gains. They have no wisdom, no compassion and certainly operate from their own attachments. No wonder, Tibet was lost.

There are so many proofs and testimonies  that Dorje Shugden helped HHDL in his escape from Tibet. Even Chushi Gangdrug was  formed by Dorje Shugden himself to help in the escape yet now they are made to swear against Dorje Shugden. Illogical.

It is so disheartening to see that these people who are part of the protecting HHDL have to swear and give up this Sacred Protector practice because of politics. Or are they still practicing in secret until the ban is lifted?

Hear! Hear! Without conviction in anything, there cannot be an end result. Just no way! Because along the way, one will easily be swayed, pull from all sides and eventually drop everything. Such is the mind of flippant people.

However, having said that... did they really have a choice? Choice of being ostracized perhaps even beaten up or denounce the very being that helped you? To some it may not be much of a choice but to some it is clear. It once again comes back to conviction and the motivation behind our actions. Perhaps "denouncing" upfront to maintain a front to carry on practicing? But that would be tantamount to lying and that would be breaking a vow.

So break your vow or break your samaya? Tough choice really. Here we all are in this forum so ready to form an opinion but if push comes to shove, what would WE do? Which would we choose?

I believe they would have been forced to swore against Dorje Shugden... probably the same as how they force a whole monastery to choose Dorje Shugden or Not and be excommunicated if you choose Dorje Shugden.

It really does seem very very harsh and a huge huge test of Guru Devotion and Faith. In a very crazy way... I think that this whole manifestation is precisely doing just that... testing the students and weeding out those that are truly loyal and sincere and those that are not. From this event we can clearly see how many are just there to just "look good" and hope to get some kind of "reward" for being on the right camp.

And we can see those who a genuine and real... even from the high lama side, we see and witness. Even the ex Prime Minsiter Samdhong Rinpoche came out clean and clear after he retired and said he only did what he did, serving His Holiness all the way because his Guru said so... who happens to be Trijang Rinpoche!

Who really knows what and how all the Enlightened masters work and think and plan... all I know is that the results show that Buddhism has spread and is still spreading and Dorje Shugden is spreading and growing like wild flowers. Always look at the end results of their actions to get some kind of indication.

As disgusting as it is,  also think that the Chushi Gangdrug team may not have a choice for not swearing in. First of all, they are in a position to protect the Dalai Lama. If they do not swear in, then they cannot perform their job. Also, if they do not swear in, then their livelihood will be affected as they will be discriminate against and will not be accepted in the Tibetan society. This group of people are already in their old age, where can they go? They need to survive. Therefore, they have no choice but the follow instructions from the Dalai Lama.

They may also be following the instructions of their guru, just like Samdhong Rinpoche who promised his guru to serve the Dalai Lama. You can read his strict following of his guru's instructions here http://dorjeshugden.com/wp/?p=8656
And these Chushi Gangdrug team may be doing so too.
