If anyone had any hopes that Dr Sangay could do something for us, sorry but looks like we were wrong.

DHARAMSALA, August 8: Commemorating his first year in office as the elected head of the Tibetan people, Kalon Tripa Dr Lobsang Sangay and his cabinet colleagues today led a day-long busy schedule, meeting the public, the press, and the staff members of the Central Tibetan Administration.

The 14th Kashag began the day seeking audiences with state oracle Gadhong and Tsering Che-nga. In one of his first interviews as Kalon Tripa, Dr Sangay had told Phayul that being a Tibetan rooted in Buddhist traditions, he will be consulting the state oracles, while reserving the decision on whether to follow their divinations.

What disturbs me about this is that (a) hes supposed to be secular so whats he doing consulting UNENLIGHTENED ORACLES? (b) hes encouraging people that hes above Buddhist traditions, and can disregard the oracles advice. Whats it mate? Are you going to follow or not? Pick one and do it all the way, fer Chrissake

At 11 am, Katri Dr Sangay, along with four of his cabinet colleagues, addressed a brief press conference.

Speaking to reporters, Dr Sangay announced that there is at present a general sense of stability, following the first anxious moments when he took oath of office last year soon after His Holiness devolved his entire political authority.

“There was a bit of anxiousness among the people, including myself and the members of the Kashag but in retrospect,” Dr Sangay said, “cumulatively, its fair to report that there is a sense of stability and a sense that we have lessened the anxiousness among the Tibetan people.”

Dr Sangay said that the Tibetan side was ready to have dialogue with the Chinese government “anytime anywhere.” He noted that his administration was ready to appoint special envoys of His Holiness the Dalai Lama whenever Beijing is willing to engage in meaningful dialogue.

This strategy hasnt worked so far so what makes you think itll work now? Why would the Chinese want to talk to you, when they didnt want to talk to the Dalai Lama? What makes you think that if they DO talk to you, theyll have any measure of respect for you, that youll be on enough of a level playing field to negotiate?

At 1.30 pm Kalon Tripa held an exclusive meeting with the staff of the Central Tibetan Administration. In his address, he thanked the staff members for their hard work and cooperation with the policies of the 14th Kashag.

Later in the afternoon, CTA organised a public prayer service in solidarity with the critical situation inside Tibet at the Tsug-la Khang, the main temple.

Gyalwang Karmapa Rinpoche presided over the prayer session which was attended by officials of the exile administration and thousands of Tibetans and supporters.

Maybe at this stage Im cherry picking but whys the Karmapa presiding over a prayer session of an audience that are predominantly Gelug?

Quote
Dr Sangay in his public address following the prayer session reiterated the 14th Kashag’s guiding principles of “unity, innovation and self-reliance,” and paid tribute to the hard work and dedication of the elder generations.

“Whatever little progress the 14th Kashag has made so far is because of the blessings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the hard work of the elder generations and the Indian government and the Indian public,” Kalon Tripa said.

Beginning his second year in office, Dr Sangay pledged to build on the legacy and sacrifices of the elder generations and promised to carry on with his hard work.

Your right, it has been LITTLE progress. In fact, unless I missed some sort of earth-shattering news, Dr Sangay has done nothing in this first year thats been noteworthy. In fact, since Dr Sangay has been in power, thereve been even MORE self-immolations as compared to before. Maybe the Tibetans are starting to get desperate, and starting to realise that Dr Sangay is ineffectual?

Whatever it is peeps, Dr Sangay has plenty of battles ahead of him. I dont think hes going to be wading into the Dorje Shugden issue any time soon.

oh yes, this one is a disappointment indeed, if anything. He appears to be too fickle, unstable and too afraid to do anything to actually help CTA improve and always hiding behind the Dalai Lama. Stand up already!

So you want a second opinion after the doctor says you have cancer? yeah that works in the medical line because people can actually detect the cancer cells, but what about the future? who can actually confirm them?. Wait....a clairvoyant Lama! But how come nobody goes to those?

Oh lets not forget that calling someone a Chinese spy in Dharamsala is an insult, and also making delusional, irrational and paranoid accusations against China does not help, i repeat, does not help in any form of negotiation. Lesson 1 about negotiation: NEVER INSULT THE PARTY YOU WANT TO NEGOTIATE WITH. That's such a basic thing to know.

Probably because that is the Karmapa is the Dalai Lama's choice and he is being groomed to replace the current Dalai Lama when he passes on? But that is an interesting tradition indeed.

Little indeed. other than parroting the Dalai Lama's statements, the Katri has not done anything of any real worth at all for the past year that he has been around. he also has not been doing something so simple and basic such as visiting other countries to increase his presence. One often wonders what has he been doing in his office.

Whatever it is peeps, Dr Sangay has plenty of battles ahead of him. I dont think hes going to be wading into the Dorje Shugden issue any time soon.
or actually improving Dharamsala. Or the CTA. Or bring the Tibetans in exile out of the dark era. He's just a puppet. Nuff said.

Ladies and gentleman, this proves it! The Katri's function is not to administer the CTA, but to generate articles for phayul and probably, just to parrot the Dalai Lama's statements. There's no hope for this Katri to actually do what he is supposed to do. Oh well.
