CTA President goes "el loco" spreading fake news in Spain
« on: November 04, 2018, 02:07:38 PM »
The CTA President has done it again!

As Losang Sangay runs out of things to say about his faltering "plan 5:50:500:5,000" or whatever,
he has been taking a silly tact to attack China for environmental issues in Tibet, in Spain this time.

He went "el loco" charging China with all sorts environmental violations and his appearance in Madrid promptly saw the withdrawal of the Chinese from an economically important trade expo. The estimated financial effect of the IFEMA expo on Madrid and region of Madrid as a driver of business tourism was stated to total two billion euros each year, roughly 1% of the region’s GDP, generating some 40,000 direct and indirect jobs. Yes, thanks to Losang Sangay, Madrid has lost significantly this year.

The irony about his attack using environmental issues is that his home India is in dire need of seriously more effort to control and reduce its worsening environmental disaster. Based on scientific data, India had two years ago, already overtaken China as having the world's most polluted air:

https://www.nextbigwhat.com/india-air-pollution-297/

This is what a recent New York Times article had to say:

As World’s Air Gets Worse, India Struggles to Breathe

By Kai Schultz, Jeffrey Gettleman, Hari Kumar and Ayesha Venkataraman
Oct. 30, 2018

NEW DELHI — A toxic fog is creeping over New Delhi. Children trudge to school with plastic masks strapped to their faces. Sports events are canceled. Eyes burn. Throats itch. Chests heave.

It’s the dreaded pollution season in India, when the amount of vehicle fumes, dust and smoke from agricultural fires spikes to levels so high that experts say children breathing this air could cause permanent brain damage.

Agra. Lucknow. Varanasi. New Delhi. India’s most fabled cities are now among the world’s most polluted. According to some recent rankings, India holds nine of the top 10 spots. In a sign of how many people — especially the elite — are distressed about this, shops in Delhi now sell “pollution guard” sunscreen and shampoo.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/30/world/asia/india-air-pollution.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=cur

Clearly Losang Sangay has run out of options and is looking"el loco".
His trip to Spain was a lose - lose trip. Spain lost, India looks stupid and Losang Sangay, well that I leave it to all of you.

"Adios Sangay"!

I have always thought the environmental issue is a conspiracy created by the western countries to undermine the developing country. It is also their way to create an obstacle for the developing country to rise. The western world still wants to have the power to control the weaker ones, they don't really want the developing country to become developed.

When the western world was in the developing stage, they have also created many environmental issues. My point is, development is always accompanied by environmental issues. It is how fast the issue is being addressed. If the western countries are really so into protecting the environment, they should provide assistance to the developing countries, not to condemn them.

If pollution is an issue, provide help, don't just complain and condemn. The western countries have enough experience to deal with environmental issues why don't they provide assistance to the developing countries in Asia? Lobsang Sangay just wants money, he will say what his sponsors want him to say, he has no gratitude to anyone, especially India.

If Lobsang Sangay is so concerned about earth, why don't he complain about this:

Delhi panic over toxic air ahead of Indian festival Diwali

Panic gripped the Indian capital Delhi on Monday as residents woke up to a blanket of thick grey smog ahead of Diwali, the festival of lights.

Visibility is poor as pollution levels reached 20 times the World Health Organisation's recommended limit.

The air quality is expected to worsen in the coming days due to the use of firecrackers, experts have warned.

Indian cities regularly dominate global pollution rankings for the worst air quality.

The Supreme Court has restricted the timeframe for setting off firecrackers to only two hours during the day - but experts believe this curfew will be hard to implement.

Diwali, the most important Hindu festival in north India, celebrates the victory of good over evil.

However in the last few years, celebrations have seen air pollution rise to hazardous levels after many firecrackers were set off.

Many have taken to social media to share their concerns as well as post dramatic photos of the city to show the extent of the problem.

Lobsang Sangay really is a wolf in sheep's clothing, he has little or no credentials to make him a green warrior, if he did, he would have helped to solve environmental issues in India. Naturally he can be concerned about the situation in Tibet, but if his care does not extend to the Tibetans in India, and the surrounding communities/counties, his rhetoric about the environmental situation in Tibet sure seems like a wolf's cry.

Spain has been one of the top recipients of FDI from China in Europe, and Spanish economy is recovering rather well, for Madrid lawmakers to be so insensitive to Chinese sentiments, what the end result will be we shall see.

Hahaha... that is just hilarious. I guess he has no more cards to pull out of his tricky little sleeves. And I guess times must be desperate and hence, calls for desperate measures. So there you go, rubbish talk and bullshit walks and that is Lobsang Sangay for us. What else can he complain about seriously? What else can he say that we have all heard and leaders are starting to say "Who cares, we need China" (?).

Poor thing, the desperation to find ways to be relevant makes him look really bad. He should instead focus on befriending China and get into their good books so that China will treat Tibetans in Tibet better... but I don't think he cares about that. It's all just lip service for him to get more donations as their funds has dramatically dropped since everyone's joining hands with China to improve their economy. And why shouldn't they, what would they get from joining Sangay... nothing but more problems.

Spain has been one of the top recipients of FDI from China in Europe, and Spanish economy is recovering rather well, for Madrid lawmakers to be so insensitive to Chinese sentiments, what the end result will be we shall see.

These days Lobsang Sangay keeps focussing on 2 issues. It is no longer so much about China's human rights records and how the Tibetans were kicked out from their own country. Given the chaotic and troubled state of the world and the more serious problems world leaders have to deal with, less and less people are interested in the Tibetan issue.

Sangay seems to be focussing on the environment but in fact he is simply spreading fear and painting a picture that China is going to destroy the world environment and also deny the world of an important source of water like some villain in a James Bond flick. It is true that the Tibetan plateau holds the largest store of glacial ice after the North and South poles and Sangay keeps repeating in his speeches these days that 10 of the major river systems in Asia originate on the Tibetan plateau. The inference is that China could deny 2 billion people their supply of water. Such a ridiculous enterprise would cost countless trillions of Yuan that it would be much easier for China to just invest the money in these Asian countries as she has been doing.

The bottom line is Sangay is not resorting to fear tactics - 'What happened to Tibet can happen to you' approach. The author of the following article nails it when he wrote:

"The rhetoric has been directed at a Western audience to stir up a common fear: “China destroys the environment and will soon conquer the whole world with the Silk Road project”. It is a hollow soundbite, but does little to promote the Tibetan cause for autonomy. This at a time when clear proposals would be especially vital, given the increasing attention to the Dalai Lama’s supposed ill health (several rumours suggest he is afflicted with terminal cancer). It is now critical for the CTA to restore confidence by showing that it is up to the task of governing six million Tibetans along with some extremely complex geopolitical/cross-border issues".

https://moderndiplomacy.eu/2018/06/27/tibetan-leadership-lets-slip-double-standards-during-canada-israel-visits/

Lobsang Sangay going 'loco' reveals a desperation and a last ditch effort to make #Tibetan still relevant. But he doesn't fool anyone.

Looks like they are enjoying themselves in Geneva  8) thanks to our Congress money of $17 million to "strengthen the capacity of the Tibetan government in exile and Tibetan institutions." What new strategies could they possibly come up with, except blaming China and the same rhetoric of being victimised?

Wow! Another slap to India I would say. Was CTA implying that India is lacking in good conference rooms or maybe security in India is not good enough for the privacy of meeting? Or was it the air pollution in India, an environmental issue that Lobsang Sangay is supposedly an expert on? Nah, its just another excuse to spend on luxury...with sponsorship funds meant for their people. Hmmm, in the group picture poor Dhardon Sharling was demoted to further back in the ranks and not by Lobsang Sangay anymore? She sure doesn't look happy with that forced smile. Anyway I think there is only 3 agendas, how & where to beg from, what & how when Dalai Lama either goes back to China or passes on (may he live long) and how to attack China & DS practitioners.

It does look like a very relaxing and happy get-together function. Is that all they talk about? The insignificant Thank You India event? And the Dalai Lama is already so old they want him to travel more? Can they be more considerate?

They can be relaxed because they have the money and they have a passport. Have they seen the life of the Tibetan in exile? How is it like? Majority of them are still refugees, they want to integrate but the CTA is not making things easier for them. The Tibetans in exile have missed so many opportunities in their lives due to the selfishness of the CTA.

After the conference, what is the outcome? What is the result? They are spending the public money, shouldn't they at least let the Tibetans know what are they doing and what do they expect as a result? They always get together, have something to eat and drink and then take a few photos and that's it! Productivity is not something the CTA is familiar with.

Smell this Losang Sangay:

As India fails to clean up its air, China is winning war on pollution

By IANS | Updated: Nov 15, 2018, 10.37 PM IST

China is notorious for pollution and it's not just an offshoot of four decades of furious industrialisation.
While New Delhi and other Indian cities choke amid worsening air conditions and half-hearted government measures, neighbouring China -- the world's largest polluter -- is slowly winning its war against pollution.
Over a dozen Indian cities today are where their Chinese counterparts used to be some five years ago.
Until 2009, 16 of the world's 20 most polluted cities were in China. This year, the first 14, including New Delhi, are in India, and only the last four -- minus Beijing -- are in China.

China is notorious for pollution and it's not just an offshoot of four decades of furious industrialisation. The problem stretches back centuries when dynastic leaders ignored the environmental costs of development.
China had no environmental institution until 1972, six years after which the country went into an almost four-decade-long economic frenzy that saw smoke-billowing factories sprout across its landscape.

The government woke up to the problem only in late 2013 when a severe smog descended on Beijing -- dubbed "airpocalypse" -- and an eight-year-old girl in Jiangsu province was diagnosed with lung cancer attributed to air pollution, making her the youngest cancer patient in the country.

This triggered a huge public outcry and, surprisingly, the state-owned media joined the chorus.
"That was a watershed moment. People were angry. It was then that the government decided to monitor PM (particulate matter) 2.5 in 74 cities and make the data public," Ma Jun, Director at the Institute of Public Environmental Affairs, a Chinese NGO, told IANS.

The stability-obsessed Chinese government also realised that merely disseminating data was not enough and announced an ambitious plan to wage a "war on pollution".

Green activists say although China has a long way to go to curb pollution, its efforts have begun to pay off.
The Chinese Environment Ministry said in September that over half of some 650 cities saw air quality improve year-on-year. Now the skies over Beijing are blue -- and on some days exceptionally clean.
"Political will and ambitious targets set by the government in 2013 have delivered very impressive gains, but the level of determination going forward needs to be reaffirmed," Lauri Myllyvirta, senior global campaigner, coal and air pollution, Greenpeace, told IANS.

"Of course, things could still change this year if the first month or two of the winter period show negative progress," he added.

China is the world's largest coal producer and burns half of it itself, causing severe air pollution. But over the years, China has shut many coal-fired power plants and shifted to natural gas heating. This leaves many homes outside Beijing and other provinces extremely cold in winter but reduces smog.

In a bolder decision this October, the Chinese government said it will switch another 1.18 million residential households in the country to natural gas heating this winter.

"If you look at Beijing, the capital's coal consumption has dropped from 22 million tonnes in 2012 to five million tonnes this year," said Ma. "Beijing's 2.5 PM has dropped from 90 to 58 in 2018."
The Chinese standard for PM 2.5 is 35.

China has also cracked down heavily on polluting factories, shutting tens of thousands of them. It has a "green police" which has the power to send its inspection teams to any part of the country, a privilege enjoyed only by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

In 2017, 18,000 companies for were punished for pollution and fines worth $125 million were levied.
The green police also has the power to sack officials for being lax in controlling pollution. Last year, 12,000 officials were disciplined.

Setting off crackers is completely banned in 444 cities, including Beijing.

The glut of cars in Beijing is responsible for 30 percent of the city's air pollution. And to tackle this, the government has placed a limit on license plates of cars. Car rationing is implemented with ease when pollution shoots up.

In another major decision last month, the Chinese market regulator decided to set up a system to recall vehicles that violate the country's pollution and emissions standards. Besides, China has the most number of electric vehicles in the world and it subsidises their manufacture.

The country is, in fact, spending heavily on clean energy -- more than twice the amount invested by the US.
"More actions are needed. The coal consumption has stagnated but we need to reduce it further," Ma said.
"There are many cities in China's coal-belly, Shanxi, which still cannot meet the modest air quality standards. Things have improved, but we have a long way to go."

The World Health Organisation has acknowledged China's efforts in curbing pollution and reckons that India can take a cue from it.

Lobsang Sangay’s recent appeal at the Geneva Forum is a clear sign that CTA is still very much into milking whatever there is left they can. Despite the growing dissatisfaction from Tibetans to the point to protest against them, instead of dealing with the real issue, Lobsang Sangay focus remains on getting sympathy money and antagonising China. The champion of all is to try instilling fear in others hoping they would fall in to trap to fight for the losing cause of Tibet.

Lobsang Sangay knows nothing about politic, pollution, international affairs while his cronies at the CTA spend most of their time enjoying momos and Tibetan tea. Ignoring the welfare of Tibetans is not something new for them and serving only their own interests has always been the focus of the CTA since the time of the 5th Dalai Lama. Talk about lineage & heritage on the wrong side!

Quote
President Dr Lobsang Sangay talk at the Geneva Forum 2018
YANGCHEN DOLMA, TIBET POST INTERNATIONAL

Geneva – President Dr Lobsang Sangay, Central Tibetan Administration gave the keynote address at the Geneva Forum – 2018: Forum on Human Rights Situation in Regions under the PRC. The forum was jointly organised by the Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) of Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and Office of Tibet Geneva, four days ahead of China’s third cycle of Universal Periodic Review (UPR), says a report by Tenzin Dechen, Communication Officer, Sikyong Office.

The panel sessions included experts, activists, and academics from all over the world discussing the challenges and the solutions for the UN human rights institutions in holding China accountable for its gross human rights violations given China’s economic power.

President Sangay began by pointing out the futility of the last 20 years where the world has actively engaged with China through business. He said, “They hoped that with economic development, the middle class in China will grow and assert more freedom and democratic rights which will ultimately change China to a democratic system. But it did not happen.”

He further said, “Some advocated that by rewarding China, Chinese leaders will behave according to international norms. After much discussion, the Most Favored Nation title was given to China, with the hope that it will become more liberal, which did not happen. Similarly, China was given the honour of hosting the Olympics with the condition that human rights in China should improve. But this also did not happen.”

On the human rights front, President Sangay said that some experts have recommended that naming and shaming China and Chinese leaders will not be effective and that a quiet diplomacy should be practised to save Chinese leaders’ faces as well as actually improve the human rights conditions in China.

He lamented, “So many countries have fallen in China’s bilateral human rights dialogue trap.” He recalled talking with some of the diplomats engaged in these dialogues for the last twenty years.

“The diplomats realised that these dialogues are essentially fruitless, and the yearly monologues don’t result in anything substantive. In fact, the human rights situation has become bad to worse and some countries are now beginning to feel buyer’s remorse. They have now realised the sinister design of the Chinese government.”

President Sangay then touched on incidences of the Chinese government’s growing influences in countries such as Norway, Australia, the US and Switzerland. “These countries are feeling buyer’s remorse. Example, Australia after realising that Chinese engagements does not pertain only to economics but also influences politics as well as academic freedom has proposed a bill in their Parliament restricting foreign interferences in Australia. Similar debates are going on in New Zealand as well.”

He urged other countries as well to re-examine and revisit their engagements with China. President Sangay cautioned that China is determined to bring a new world order with the Chinese Communist Party on top of the pyramid.

“China is rigorously promoting “Socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era” on the international stage. This is President Xi Jinping’s mantra.” Further clarifying, he said, “Socialism with Chinese characteristics means no democracy, one-party dictatorship, and no human rights.”

President Sangay concluded his speech by asking, “If the United Nation’s Human Rights Council cannot make China accountable for human rights violations, then who will? Irrespective of the outcome of the UPR, we have to make sure to hold China publicly accountable through this Forum. We have speakers on Mongolia, Xinjiang, Tibet, Hong Kong, respectable academics, and human rights specialists on China. I leave it to the experts now to make recommendations making the Chinese government accountable. He ended, “Unless we transform China, China will transform us.”

Doesn't Lobsang Sangay have other things to say when he visits other countries? Really, what benefit can he bring to people? Everywhere he goes, he brings with him negativity.

The speech he gives when he visit other countries is not inspiring, it is always complaint after complaint. He always tells how bad China is and how Tibetans are suppressed. But what have he done to bring Tibetans out of that situation? By now he should know complaining cannot solve problems.

I just wish he could make himself useful if not to other country but at least Tibetans. Don't add more negativity to this already very negative world. Do something to change, inspire others with hard work. Lobsang Sangay, please prove to us we are wrong about you!
