Lobsang Sangay is smart in his own way. He doesn't want Dalai Lama to go back china, this is for sure because if the Dalai Lama goes back, he will lose his source of income.  So he is using every opportunity to make sure China is angry with the Dala Lama. And for this part alone, we can say that he is successful. He doesn't need to plan for long, the future of Tibet is not what he is concerning. So he just needs to grab as much money as he can while he is in power and while the West is still willing to give them money.

Hehehe! It is funny to read all the Ifs. But the thing is Lobsang Sangay thinks he is smart, smarter than the Dalai Lama too. Which is why he ignores the Dalai Lama's wishes for the middle way which the Dalai Lama had the foresight of China's world status now as the number 1. So Lobsang Sangay missed the boat in being on good terms with advantage with the Chinese President and for his people to benefit from the fast-growing economy of Tibet. He missed the kick-backs that he would have received from the Chinese in creating harmony for his people. He missed being the propagator of human lives instead of condoning and instigating self-immolation. The list goes on and on and on of the things he missed due to his short-sighted selfishness. Too bad! The Dalai Lama will no longer be in the position to catch his mistakes anymore as he is recuperating and nursing his illness.

This is discussion thread is hilarious because it started with " If Lobsang Sangay was smart" when we already know that he is not smart at all. If he is smart, he would have used all his ability and every chance to get into China's good books in order for him to continue the dialogue with China to get back Tibet's independence.

The dialogue between China and Tibetan leadership is stuck for more than 10 years and there is no initiative from China's side to continue the dialogue with the Tibetans at all. Obviously, China is not bothered to have this dialogue with the Tibetans. They are doing quite fine with Tibet now.

It is the Tibetan leadership who desperately need to talk to China to get themselves back into Tibet. 1 month ago, China had released their white paper on Tibet and they have omitted their wish to talk to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. If they have decided that they do not need to talk to His Holiness, what makes the CTA think that China will want to even talk to them?

China has the equipment, professional and resources dig and process the natural resources in Tibet. Not only that, China has the resources to develop Tibet which CTA never thought off but just want to keep going the rough route to irk the Chinese. The Chinese can make a shift for Tibet and give a better opportunity for Tibetan which is better than in India.

CTA pls wake up!!!

In my opinion, Lobsang Sangay is smart. He knows how to take advantage of the situation to make his wallet fat. He is not a politician, improving the lives of the Tibetans is not his ambition, he is only after money and power. So why should he make peace with China?

It serves Lobsang Sangay no benefit at all to negotiate with China for autonomous status for Tibet. If that happens who will pay his bill? He will leave this job to the next president, he will not do that. What has he achieved over the years? Nothing much.

Lobsang Sangay is enjoying his time as the president of Tibetan in exile community. He is flying first class, staying in five-star hotels, eating in posh restaurants, no pressure to perform t work. Life is just too good for him. If Tibetans are clever, they will not vote for him to serve for another term.

Yes, Lobsang Sangay is smart but only for his own benefits. He has been President of the Tibetan government for so long, he did not achieve anything for fellow Tibetans in exile and what he did achieve is to his own benefit. What the Tibetan in exile need is a bright future and not selling sweater in Tibetan settlements for the rest of their lives.

There are many Tibetans that moved out of Tibetan settlements and led a successful life. There are so many examples and some even rise to become famous people. Those who continued to stay in Tibetan settlements are deprived of opportunities and only serve as a pawn to be manipulated by the Tibetan government to do their bidding.

There is a reason why they are still refugee in India after 60 years despite the enormous amount of help that the Tibetan government received from the western country in fighting for Tibet cause. Most of the Tibetan government members own a second passport from another country and they can just leave and settle into those countries easily. If they are truly passionate about Tibet cause, they would be loyal and Tibet and not accept citizenship from another country. It is obvious that they do not have any thoughts about going back to Tibet and Tibet cause is just another tool for them to milk money out of those westerners.

Just a few days ago, there's news about a newly published book "Defining India" mentioned about China President Xi Jinping agreed to meet the Dalai Lama during a 2014 visit to India but a "cautious" New Delhi did not allow it to happen. The author of the book said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government was concerned about maintaining good relations with China.

If what is mentioned in the book is true, it means that China used to open its door to the Dalai Lama but too bad it was India who dared not let this happen. I think the reason is clear enough, the Tibetans had never shown their sincerity in having a dialogue with China. If they are sincere in having a dialogue with China, they would have been very cautious about their way of handling China - Tibet relationship. If they were practising that, then both India and Tibetan government would have fought for the same goal that is to be friend with China. Then there's no reason for the Indian government to be so afraid of letting Xi Jinping to meet the Dalai Lama.

The fact that P Modi dared not let the meeting take place, somehow shows that he is not confident with what was going to come out from the Tibetan's mouth. Who are those Tibetans that always openly make China their enemy and always irritate China? The answer is CTA. And Lobsang Sangay definitely is the key person to create such a situation. Therefore if what is mentioned in the book is true, the blame is not on India but Lobsang Sangay.

Is he smart? I think if he manages to make the majority of those who fight for Tibet cause to be angry at India, then I think he is at least smart enough to manipulate people.

The Chinese has all the necessary to make good of the natural resources in Tibet. Tibet itself is a gem and what the Tibetan leadership need to do is to cooperate in order to gain the interest together. Fighting will not bring any benefits but if t work together, it will definitely bring more opportunities for everyone. Tibetan leadership alone unable to harvest and make full potential of their own resources. This is the fact and lets face it. They need expert, resources and technologies to convert their resources to something meaningful to them.

I hope the Tibetan leadership able to see and keep close relationship with China for their future.

With the rate of how Tibetan leadership is going, they will never be able to develop their country. That is why China has to come into the picture. China has invested so much into Tibet. They have given financial aids and land to everyone to help them get back up from their feet when they are freed from serfdom.

In just 60 years, China manages to reduce the rate of poverty in Tibet. According to them, they will succeed in eliminating poverty from Tibet in a few years time. This is a huge difference compared to the time when CTA is ruling Tibet where 95% of the population is living in poverty. China's invasion is beneficial to Tibet in the long run.

On the other hand, the Tibetan government is currently run by fools. They are stuck in India for 60 years and they did not do much to reclaim their independence. There is not much they can do now because China will definitely not going to give Tibet back to CTA any time soon after they have invested so much into Tibet.

From damming powerful rivers to tearing up savanna for mining to expelling Tibetan nomads from their ancestral lands, China is exploiting the natural resources of Tibet on an epic scale, a new book argues.

Tibet has huge reserves of copper, lithium, gold and silver. Most of it has never been touched, because the Tibetans didn't mine the land: it's against their religious practices to disturb the ground. But China has begun mining on an enormous scale.

China's been "gung-ho on dams ever since Mao Zedong came into power," Buckley explains, but not on the Tibetan Plateau — it was always in the East. Now the dam movement in China is expanding westward with no end in sight.

The headwaters of the Yangtze River, the Yellow River, the Brahmaputra, the Irrawaddy, the Ganges and the Mekong all flow from the high-altitude plateau into Asia, providing life-giving water for drinking, agriculture, fisheries and, more recently, hydropower.

“You've got the hugest hydro-potential ever,” Buckley says, “because you’re starting in the Himalayas and dropping 3,000 or 4,000 meters."
China wants to double its use of hydropower by 2020, as a way generating more “green” energy. The only way to do that is by expanding dam building to the rivers of Tibet, because the rivers of China are already thoroughly dammed, Buckley says. “You can't dam them anymore. China has more dams than the rest of the world put together. So they’re gradually working their way towards the Tibetan Plateau.”

So look at the big scale work of China and Tibetan definitely are in the pipeline for job opportunity and many more.

We see China is progressively moving forward with opportunity but what about CTA?

I think China is always open for discussion or a dialogue. To have the Dalai Lama back in China will also bring benefits to the Chinese government. Many Tibetans still respect and listen to the Dalai Lama, he is still very influential in Tibet. The Chinese government wants him to help to 'control' the Tibetans but the Chinese government has to make sure the Dalai Lama is loyal to them.

Therefore, in order to negotiate with the Chinese government, CTA or the Dalai Lama must prove that they are loyal to the Chinese government. But looking at how Lobsang Sangay has been and is still touring around the world to put China down, the Chinese government will not trust him. Lobsang Sangay is not doing anything to change the perception of the Chinese government.

Not only the Chinese government does not trust the CTA, but the Indian government also does not trust them either. Otherwise, Modi would have helped to instrument a peaceful dialogue between the two of them. To maintain a good relationship with China is much more important than to help ungrateful people like Lobsang Sangay or the CTA.  Both Lobsang Sangay and CTA are just too arrogant and at the end of the day, they have to suffer, just wait and see.

Anyone saw the what Lobsang Sangay did for his court hearing? He didn't even bother to attend and just send a representative to the hearing. How arrogant this guy can be? He disrespects the court and the law and does things according to his convenience.

This is a guy that is supposed to be the example for every Tibetans to follow. He is the president of the exiled government and yet he acts like a child for disrespecting the law does things according to his mood. I guess he has been the president for too long and he forgot about how he was being elected to be the president in the first place.

However, looking at his accomplishment for the past years of him being the president, there is nothing for him to be arrogant about. There is nothing that he had done that truly benefitted the public.

Well, the title says it all "If Lobsang Sangay was smart..." which we had established he is NOT! If he was smart, he would have shared some of the wealth from sponsorships with his people to gain their loyalty. If he was smart, he would have known that reliance on western donations will dwindle in time and start making overtures to China. If he was smart, he would see the Dalai Lama is Cherenzig and listened to his advice to help his people return to Tibet where the standard of living is rising rapidly due to heavy investment by China into Tibet. If he was smart, he would have created a power base for himself riding on the Dalai Lama's tail and not rely on the Dalai Lama's charisma long term. So Lobsang Sangay is not smart at all. Now with more and more visiting Dorje Shugden related websites to learn the truth of his lies, just like some Sakya monks are doing in Nepal, he has no control and all his words will not be trusted again. He is dumb as he still does not see he is losing his powers over his own people. Never build any loyalty.

I do not understand why the Tibetans are still loyal to him when he did not do anything for them. He has been their president for a few years now and what did he do? He did nothing for the benefit of the Tibetans other than publishing anti-Dorje Shugden book and manual for Self-immolation.

What kind of president encourages his own citizens to suicide by lighting themselves on fire? He is doing it for the money. Tibetans self-immolating can generate a lot of foreign attention onto the Tibetan cause which can get a lot of donations.

Tibetan will never be able to go back to Tibet with such leadership because of the leadership as working for their own benefit and not the Tibetan cause. That is why the Tibetan has been a refugee for 60 years and still no progress.

Lobsang Sangay didn't do much for the Tibetan community. He brings more damages than benefits to his people. Under Lobsang Sangay's leadership, more and more countries have decided to cut their ties with the CTA. This is already an indication that Lobsang Sangay is not capable.

In addition to this, Lobsang Sangay is known to have affairs with women in the CTA; he siphoned a large amount of money from the fund given to the Tibetan community; he accused Dorje Shugden followers of crimes they did not committed; he encouraged Tibetans to self-immolate. In summary, he causes disunity in the Tibetan community.

He still being the president of the Tibetans in exile does not mean people are still supporting him. It could be that Tibetans are already fed-up with the CTA, they are finding ways to leave the Tibetan community or there is no more candidate and it does not make a difference to their situation even if they change their president.
