It is really disheartening and sad to see fake monks going round conning kind hearted people. They know it's wrong but they still do it.
If they receive alms or money from the people then they also receive negative karma as well. Karma has it cause and effect. They will not be able to run or hide away from it.

Bogus monks give a bad image to the sangha community. It is disheartening to hear that due to greed, it can motivate people to dress up as monk to cheat the public for donation. Monks and nuns are only allowed to come out to receive alms food offered by lay people and the offerings are in the morning. It is advisable for the public who wants to make monetary donation to go to the temple directly to make the contribution.

Agreed totally with you. The bogus monk like the one in this photo receiving money in his begging bowl, which is not allowed by the 'Code of Conducts' i.e. the Vinaya of Buddhist Sangha.

The unsuspecting people gave donations thinking they will received merits from the 3rd Jewel of the Holy 3 Jewels... though they will still receive on their part but the bogus monk is creating huge negative karma for himself.

It is really sad to see all these people using other people’s inherent good nature to earn money. And all these people really bring bad reputation for the sanghas. It makes the society to doubt the monks who ask for donation for their monastry and a good cause. The police should really take action against all these fake monks. For our side, whenever we donate, we don’t care whether it is real or fake because we are just doing our part.
