As a fully Enlightened Being, he helps us unconditionally, out of his great compassionate wish to free us from suffering. The only thing he would like for us is to improve our minds to become better, kinder people.

Dorje Shugden is a Dharma Protector who has arisen in this form specifically to safeguard our Dharma practice. Therefore, the very moment we begin our spiritual connection with him through our prayers, offerings and refuge is the moment he begins his work to sustain us on the spiritual path.

However, many of us are new to the Dharma and our immediate concern may not be for our spiritual practice, mind transformation or even Enlightenment; many of us are more concerned about our immediate problems: relationship conflicts, monetary concerns, career dilemmas, bills to pay, mouths to feed and jobs to fulfil.

We must realize that as long as we are alive, such problems will continue to plague us, to a greater or lesser extent. We therefore need assistance that is fast, efficacious and something we can place our full trust in.

This is where Dorje Shugden comes in, as he is the most supreme among all the Dharma Protectors. Dorje Shugden holds a vajra hook in the crook of his left arm which reflects his powerful ability to attract all desired material and spiritual resources for our worldly and spiritual life.

Also, with his enlightened nature, which is the same as Manjushri’s, the Buddha of Wisdom, he will skilfully alleviate our problems so we can focus more on our spiritual practice. Many people develop faith quickly in Dorje Shugden because they receive very clear signs that he has alleviated their problems. Often, practitioners enter the Dharma in this way when their immediate prayers are answered swiftly.

Dorje Shugden’s strength and ability are boundless. Devotees of Dorje Shugden will be able to share with you numerous examples of how he has rescued them from dire circumstances, in ways that other Protectors are unable to do at this time.

Dorje Shugden is able to come to our assistance much quicker because he is in the form of a worldly god although his mind is that of a fully enlightened Buddha – Manjushri. This worldly form is symbolised by the boots that he wears, which represents a very close, strong karmic affinity that he has with us.

When Dorje Shugden first arose as a Dharma Protector, the Great Fifth Dalai Lama tried to destroy him with some of the deadliest fire rituals. Wisdom Buddha Dorje Shugden

The function of a Dharma protector is to arrange all outer and inner conditions so that everything that happens to us is perfect for our swiftest possible enlightenment. But Dorje Shugden is more than just a Dharma protector, he is also a wisdom Buddha.

It is not enough to just know that the outer and inner conditions of our lives are perfect for enlightenment, but to be able to take full advantage of these conditions we need to understand and realize directly how (or in what way) they are indeed perfect.

When we have the wisdom which realizes how our conditions are perfect, then we can fully take advantage of them and move most swiftly towards enlightenment. The blessings of Dorje Shugden bestows upon us this wisdom of realizing how the conditions he has emanated for us are in fact perfect. Then, we are not only happy with everything but can use everything most effectively to advance along the path.

When we realize the emptiness of inherent existence, then we realize that Dorje Shugden’s power is not limited to just arranging perfect conditions for ourselves and bestowing upon ourselves the wisdom to realize how our conditions are perfect, but we can also invoke him to accomplish the same blessings for each and every living being.

We pray to him so that he can arrange all outer and inner conditions for each and every being so that whatever happens to them will be perfect for their attainment of enlightenment. He can then bestow upon us the wisdom that sees directly how whatever arises is in fact perfect for the attainment of enlightenment. Then, we can share the wisdom we have acquired with others, helping them towards the bliss of full enlightenment.

From our perspective, Dorje Shugden is the same being as the wisdom Buddha Manjushri. Manjushri appears in two aspects, as Je Tsongkhapa to lead us along the path and as Dorje Shugden to arrange all the suitable conditions for our practice. It is therefore impossible to reject one without rejecting the other two.

Since we agree that Manjushri and Je Tsongkhapa are perfectly reliable Buddhas and Dorje Shugden is for us just a different aspect of the same being so Dorje Shugden is also perfectly reliable. We cannot reject him without rejecting the others. Since we cannot reject the others, we cannot reject him.
