"In brief: your experiences and realizations will be great or small
Just as your familiarity with faith is great or small.
Your kind guru is the source of siddhis.
Contemplate his qualities and ignore his faults.
Hold his instructions in your palm,
And promise to keep them to the last."
(Gyalwa Ensapa)

How can we not remember the kindness of our Gurus?

As Sakya Pandita (p.222, Lamrim)says:

"The merit stock gained by following the six perfections
And sacrificing head, arms, and legs for thousands of eons
Is gained but in a moment through the guru path.
Shouldn't you rejoice when made to serve him?

You get closer to buddhahood because it is that much quicker to build up  that amount of merit.

This is worth to contemplate deeply upon as it is due to our guru kindness that we can accumulate merit to free ourselves from our own delusions and samsara. Without our guru it would take infinitely longer liberate. Indeed our guru is most kinder than the Buddha due to this. Therefore we must payback our guru kindness by putting effort and pushing ourselves from our comfort zone in our practice.

The kindness of our Guru is far greater than that of the parents for their only child. This is because the love and kindness of the parents for their child is only for this life only. The kindness of our Guru carries on many lifetimes until we attain enlightenment. He have to endure the hardship of studying at the monastery for many years so that we can learn the Buddha's teachings without traveling to far away lands.
It is very important to remember the kindness of our Guru for he is the only one that could lead us out of the continuos sufferings of samsara. And he is lovingly guiding us without any hidden agenda. All that we need to repay his kindness is to follow the instructions given by him.

Is the Guru unconditional love, compassion and kindness towards us until we achieve the enlightenment. All these high lamas choose to reincarnate and going thru all the process of learning and hardship of life over and over again so that they could lead us all towards enlightenment. This is not an easy task and not easy at all, could be much harder for themselves to gain enlighten.

And in return, our Guru did not expect or ask anything in return besides asking us taking our spiritual practices serious. This is only thing they request us to do. So, always remember our Guru's kindness by doing what he have ask of you.
