Spiritual Truth #1 - All-Knowing Awareness

I found this video very enlightening...  its approach is very simple:

Stages of logical questioning leading us to understand the concept of "Emptiness" i.e. on the basic level of course, to be able to fully understand means we are already enlightened  ;)

The video begins with these statements:

"Why do people sometimes experience sudden profound epiphanies, ideas, insight, and intuition in moments of inner quietude?"

"Because Silence, which has no shape or form whatsoever, is All-knowing."

Meditation is one of the method for attainment of Dhyana (Sanskrit) or Jhanas (Pali)... thus leading to enlightenment.

Silence is Golden indeed.

In this context, silence refers to the state of concentration of the mind without distraction by the six sense objects i.e. sight, sound, smell, taste, touch and thought.  Our mind generates countless wandering thought every moment.  When the mind is focused and aware, it achieves a state of mental calmness or “silence”.  When the mind is “silenced”, it is able to observe and study the object of meditation.  Through continuous observation of the object of meditation, we gain wisdom understanding the nature of the object of meditation. With wisdom we are then able to understand and realise the truths about our reality.  When we realise the nature of our reality, we are then able to free ourselves from samsara and to achieve the state of full enlightenment.

The quote 'Silence is All-knowing' is very profound. What does it mean to be silence? Is it only the speech? When we say silence it means there is no sound, the sound that is produced from verbal speech. However the mind can be still having thoughts generated every instant. The mind is not silent. During meditation we remained silence verbally but our mind may not be silence with no thoughts. It can be very busy as have been experienced by many beginners.

Silence is the absence of any sound or communication. Where spirituality is concerned, "Silence" is actually inner stillness, free from thoughts and patterns.

Eckhart Tolle says that silence can be seen either as the absence of noise, or as the space in which sound exists, just as inner stillness can be seen as the absence of thought, or the space in which thoughts are perceived.

Free from sound, thoughts, the minds quite down, this is when our mind is free, still and nothingness just empty of thoughts. We can meditate to achieve such state of mind. With such state of mind, we are able to be in peace with ourselves. It is good that we can go for retreat away from the city in a serene environment to be in silence.

Silence is all knowing. Pure silence transcends all that. Silence, like emptiness, is the ground of everything. Silence can be another word for emptiness. Before there is a sound, there is silence. Where there is no sound, there is only silence. Silence is the true nature of the mind. Even a mind immersed in thoughts - often planning, worrying and obsessing - is not silent, in spite of the quietness that may pervade its surroundings. True silence is both inner and outer. When we withdraw into silence, we are absolutely alone to see ourselves as we really are and then we can learn to overcome the weaknesses and limitations in ordinary experience.

It is amazing how humans don't really grasp how accustomed we are to noise, distraction and diversion.A silent mind is a mind that listens. It is no longer clogged with thoughts. It is free.
And if our intention is to be generous, kind forgiving, then we will have the wish to do just that.It comes in through silence.

In the Samyutta Nikaya, the Buddha talked about the "Aryan silence". The Aryan silence is "a state of internal calm of heart, concentrated on its object, free from discursive thought and investigation, born of mental balance, a state of zest and ease." This is what the Buddha called the "second trance" which is "an interior tranquilization and intentness of thoughts, and is produced by concentration". In the Aryan silence, the mind is balanced and in control. The Buddha once advised his disciples who were engaged in pious talk, "It is fitting, brethren, for you, as clansmen thus to assemble and engage in pious talk. When ye meet together, brethren, ye should do one of two things: engage in pious talk or keep the Aryan silence."
