This is very bad news. I hope it's not real. From an outsider point of view, there will be thinking why is it that both Karmapas are now 'disrobed'? Doesn't look good for the Kagyu school and Tibetan Buddhism in general. This is following the Sogyal and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche's (Shambhala) scandals. What is wrong with the lamas nowadays :o ?
If this is not real, who is behind this news to defame the Karmapa Ogyen Trinley? It seems that controversy is his middle name now, after his Dominican passport issue.

Hmmm, now I know why the Tibetan Leaders had not announced which Karmapa is real and which is fake. Karmapa Ogyen Trinley had always been seen in the company of the Dalai Lama and I would think that he is the one endorsed to be the Karmapa. But it seems he ran away and got himself citizenship of the Dominican Republic. Now we learn that he has a girlfriend and slept with her 3 times in their 5 years relationship????? On top of that, he has numerous girlfriends..... are his teachings valid since he is in monk's robes?
Karmapa Thaye Dorje had been vilified for getting married and having a baby but it turned out that the baby is the reincarnation of Sharmapa. So does that mean he is the real Karmapa? It is all so confusing and the Tibetan Leaders should really come out to announce the real one to avoid people practicing under the wrong one. We don't want to go to hell for wrong practices. Tell us WHO IS THE REAL KARMAPA!!!!!

This is shocking! The Karmapa Ogyen Trinley has a girlfriend? Is it for real? He has already had a money scandal and now a relationship scandal? This is getting very complicated.
But why only at this time the girl decided to expose the Karmapa? Not long after the Karmapa ran away and met up with the other Karmapa? The girl claimed their relationship started a few years back why didn't she tell before?
Is this another dirty tactic of the CTA trying to take revenge on the Karmapa Ogyen Trinley for running away from them? I am not surprised if it is something planned by the CTA, they are famous for taking revenge and making people's life miserable if their instructions are not followed.

There are so many negative news in Tibetan Buddhist community. There are the sex scandals of Sogyal Rinpoche and Rigdzin Namkha Rinpoche, there is the Dorje Shugden ban, the two Karmapas, and Panchen Lamas problems, money scandal and now the Karmapa Ogyen Trinley is involved in a sex scandal also! All these news are not doing anything good to the Tibetan Buddhism.
I have listened to the audio the girl provided, some part of the voice does not sound like the Karmapa's voice. Some people say the conversation is fake, they take the Karmapa's voice from his public talk and put them together to make it into a conversation. This sounds possible.
Why did the girl only expose the Karmapa now but not before? Maybe she has taken money from someone to accuse the Karmapa. It seems like someone is trying to destroy the reputation and credibility of Karmapa. I just hope this is a set-up. Karmapa Ogyen Trinley has many followers, if this is real, many people will lose faith in Dharma.

This Karmapa scandal is a huge slap in the face for the Central Tibetan Administration especially since this is their choice of Karmapa. One after another, there is some kind of drama, sob story, some kind of scandal from this Karmapa. And now this sexual scandal and the media in Taiwan is making it bigger and bigger. They are not letting it go so easily and hyping it up big time.
They are not taking it lightly for sure, tantric or not, sorry, not many people are not going to buy that especially if they do not know dharma or does not follow Tibetan Buddhism. This will drag the credibility of the Dalai Lama and CTA down further.
They should not have butt in and mess up the age-old tradition of recognising the Karmapas by the Karma Kagyu's Sharmapa. They had no history nor authority to do so. Now their karma comes back and their grave hole is being dug deeper and bigger.
Not only is their chosen Karmapa not only performing well as the head, complaining he is depressed and does not like politics and doesn't even want to be associated with the CTA, citing abuse from them...

1. Karmapas are supposed to be enlightened beings who reincarnate to benefit all sentient beings. WTF do they need to engage in HYT?
2. HYT practitioners, assuming they practice the father-mother practices, need both to be qualified practitioners. Nothing in the scandalous testimonial suggests that the girl or girls are even practitioners, not to mention HYT practitioners. They are just young girls.
Maybe you say all these things not that you're ignorant of it but you embrace all this F-ing around.

Very disturbing news, for parents to have their teenage daughters learning Tibetan Buddhism especially from lamas supported by the CTA and Dalai Lama.
With all the sex scandals going around, what parent will feel safe leaving their daughters and sons in such organizations. It is apparent many of the lamas linked to the CTA, are perpetrators of sexual abuse all over the world. Very disturbing to read about this. If CTA wants to keep a shred of their credibility and hold over Tibetan Buddhists, they better act fast to clean up all these scandals.

What you said is true. Even if they did engage in HYT won't the Dakinis come?? 8) Anyway, the actions always have positive results if they are good, right? Like the Karmapa Thaye Dorje, the baby resulted from his marriage is Sharmapa. As mentioned by Harold himself, the 15th Karmapa had sons who were reincarnations.
In the case of Karmapa Ogyen Trinley, it seemed different. The woman exposed the relationship and alleged he had many other girlfriends too. So what is the positive aspect of these relationships? This being the Karmapa chosen by the Dalai Lama and Tibetan Leaders, then we have a right to query if the choice was still correct or should another be the real one? After all, CTA says we will go to hell for wrong practices.

Agree with you Ringo. In the Taiwanese scene, it's common understanding, in fact, it is so ingrained that it's hard to get it out anymore, that many Tibetan lamas engage in sexual misconduct with the excuse of consort practice, that includes not-so-high lama like the Nechung Oracle.
Also, how many consorts do the Karmapa need for his consort practice? New way of converting disciples by taming them with sex for that many girls? I don't think so. 8) I'm definitely a skeptic for this case. I do hope it's not real.

You are right that the 15th Karmapa married and had kids, and two of whom were recognized as Tulkus. I think Karmapa Thaye Dorje has done the same and his son I could be the reincarnation of the Sharmapa. However, philanderers they were not as they got married to the partners.
You are also right that I am not able to judge the Karmapa but here are the facts from a respected authority, Dr Alex Berzin:
"In the final stages of the path of the highest class of tantra, the advanced yoga methods for drawing the energy-winds into the central channel do entail a man and woman sitting in a posture of union. Far from being exploitative, however, both partners are required to have reached the same advanced level of spiritual development. This includes both having reached the level of control of their subtle energies and their minds so that even though the bottom tips of their central channels touch, both avoid orgasmic release.
Sitting in such a yogic posture while engaging in complex visualizations and meditating on voidness is only done to enhance the practice on the most advanced levels. It is not done as the main practice or engaged in regularly, and is certainly not a practice for earlier stages of the path.
Moreover, to avoid any possibility of misogyny, machismo, or male chauvinism, one of the tantric vows is to refrain from ever speaking badly or mistreating women."

If she really is sexually abused, why didn't she report to the police? If she is keeping the audio recording so that she can expose the Karmapa why didn't she keep the video recording? If they really had 5 years relationship, they must have communicated using the video before. Ms. H also mentioned that she was in contact with Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, how true is that?
This Ms. H is very suspicious, what she has provided as the evidence is not strong enough. Their phone recording sounds fake. I guess CTA has been mistreating him and controlling his movement too much which made him unhappy. Karmapa did said that he is unhappy with his current condition because he is unable to perform his duties as the Karmapa and he also did not get the education that he needed.
The sex scandal is most likely a fake one because until today, there is no more news about it. Only Taiwanese media reported this new, no other international media shared this news. What some people said make sense also. Karmapa was under the surveillance of CTA and Indian government 24/7, it will not be easy for him to have and maintain a relationship with several women.
I think it must be a set up by the CTA. They are angry with the Karmapa because he ran away and disobey them. Now the CTA does not have a successor to the Dalai Lama anymore, when the Dalai Lama passes away, they will be having problem. When people support the Tibetans, it is not because they support the CTA but because of the Dalai Lama.

Hey Drolma, I totally forgot about this huge scandal until you brought it up again! I think you and Alex are right about it being a scandal and that is probably premeditated by CTA themselves to get the Karmapa because the Karmapa expose them by coming out to say that CTA abuses him indirectly in his confessional video that he is "depressed". Well, this definitely looks like they are trying to destroy the Karmapa.
What I do not get or understand is that why would CTA jeopardise the Karmapa if he was really to be the successor after the Dalai Lama's passing? I guess they figure if they cannot control him, might as well destroy him. Hmmm...

I think this girl was paid to spread the fake news about Karmapa. Why is that only the Taiwanese media were reporting on this? Karmapa is very famous in the western world, if the news is genuine, the western media would have reported it. It seems like a set up to me.
The CTA is not happy about Karmapa running away and getting the citizenship in Dominica. They have groomed him for so many years hoping he will be the next Dalai Lama but he refuses to be CTA's puppet. Karmapa also has expressed his dissatisfaction towards the CTA.
With Karmapa openly going against the CTA, CTA definitely is not happy. As usual, CTA will find ways to get people who are against them like how they black listed Dorje Shugden followers. They want to destroy Karmapa so they created this scandal. The CTA doesn't care if it will affect Tibetan Buddhism, all they canre is how to take revenge. With a mentality like this, the CTA will not achieve anything.

After so long, there is no more news on the scandal. It is highly possible that the girl was paid to ruin the Karmapa's reputation. Who would do that? Most likely it was the CTA. The CTA was very upset that the Karmapa ran away from them. They have spent so much time and effort grooming the Karmapa to be the successor of the Dalai Lama but clearly, the Karmapa did not 'appreciate' it. Without another famous lama at the front line, it will be more difficult for the CTA to get more money from the public.
