I have been seeing this new line of reasoning used more and more lately:
He said it was during the period of the Fifth Dalai Lama that the propitiation began and so he would know the best. The Fifth Dalai Lama had discouraged this practice and His Holiness said the situation could only be altered by an individual with knowledge and standing equivalent to the Fifth Dalai Lama who had a different view.
I have checked the lists of my Lamrim and Vajrayana Mahamudra lineage Gurus, and he is not listed, so I don't see how that reasoning applies to me. I think I'll stick with my lineage Gurus on this one.
