We as laymen are not worthy to judge such actions made, a great lama would know what the odds are when making certain decisions and do not need people such as the tibetans to disagree. As said, 'everything happens for a reason' would be put into this situation. No lamas are hypocrites of their actions unless there is a meaning to it. I believe that the people with the wrong view of mind would misunderstand situations like these and mistaken it with fickleness. It wouldn"t make sense if it is so, how CAN many practice the teachings and prayers of Pabongkha Rinpoche when he himself practice the teachings of DS, there would be no continuation.

Choosing a Lama as your guru need not be a great Lama of status. As long as the Lama can teach you good Dharma as a Guru and can transform you will be good enough. Look Lama Yeshe. He is a simple and humble monk. Although he has no high qualifications. Lama Yeshe has written books which has attracted a lot of westerners to become his students. Great Lamas are also good but they are not fickle. I don't think so. Pabongka Rinpoche, Trijang Rinpoche, Dalai Lama etc are great lamas and what they do must have a reason. They are Buddhas and at our level of understanding as ordinary beings we may not seem to understand what and why sometimes things are happening. And we may seem to percieve this actions as fickle.
