There are a lot of interesting similarities between the Great 5th and the current recognition of the Dalai Lama; both tried to stop people from practicing Wisdom Buddha Dorje Shugden and both have interfered in the Kagyu lineage; thousands of Kagyu lamas and monks were beheaded during the time of the great 5th, from (human) forces allied with the 5th Dalai Lama; the current recognition of the Dalai Lama of course helped split the Kagyus, by backing Tai Situ's/China's candidate.
