Yes, I fully agree with the thoughts and sentiments expressed in this article. Yes, it is time for HH Dalai Lama, the CTA and the Tibetan community -in-exile to make peace with China.and to use an approach of friendly engagement.

This should not be too difficult because the wise Shugden masters, who are friendly with China - Gangchen Rinpoche,Yongyal Rinpoche, Lama Thubten Purba,101st Gaden Trisur and others , have paved the way for this to happen. They have won the trust of the Chinese Government. All that is needed is for Dalai Lama and CTA to let go of their confrontational approach toward the Chinese government over the cause of Tibet's freedom.

They should also give up their pipe dream of gaining Western backing and support against China in favor of Tibet's independence. The winds of change are now blowing through the corridors of power. Almost every Western country sees China as the rising world power and needs its financial and economic support. They will surely not want to antagonize China, if they can help it.

As for the view that the Dalai Lama, by backing the same candidate as China for the Karmapa seat, is trying to gain support from China himself, I disagree. It does not gel with the other actions of the Dalai Lama, such as his tacitly condoning the more than 100 cases of self-immolation of Tibetans (including monks) in support of the Free Tibet cause. In fact, the self-immolations may have done more harm than good for the Free Tibet cause, as it has set the Chinese Government against the Dalai Lama even more.

The way forward for the Dalai Lama and CTA to secure some freedom for Tibet is the way of peace, securing for Tibet an autonomous status -along the lines of Hong Kong:acquiring a Chinese Special Administrative status like Hong Kong.. There is no other choice. I agree that getting CIA support may not work in the interest of Tibet's freedom. It could backfire, and the Tibet issue may be used as a "tool to keep China 'in check' and maintain a poitical upper hand" over China.

It is of vital importance that the Tibetan culture be preservedand it can be done, if peaceful means are employed to engage with China over the issue of Tibet's autonomy.

I am afraid those of you at DorjeShugden.com may not see the big picture here. The Dalai Lama is already very friendly with China, in choosing the candidate that China backed for Karmapa. He also makes statements that we don't need idols anymore in Buddhism; we don't have idols, we have Buddha statues. I understand that some Tibetans may be so used to oppression by the Dalai Lama that they can't see much difference between that and communist China. However, we are constantly praying for freedoms and endowments, so why go somewhere where they only allow you to pay lip-service to your religion. The Dalai Lama has also said that maybe his Karmapa recognition could succeed him; since he will listen to China, who will not allow for freedom of religion, I will pray for all living beings that anyone with the aspiration to be born a Buddhist be free from Himalayan rebirth.

A great article to read . H H, the Dalai Lama and his supporters must listen to it to save Tibetan autonomy and its culture . No power on this earth can separate Tibet from PRC . Moreover, Nepal likes Tibet to be an inseparable part of China.

What fresh thoughts. I appreciate this. As someone who used to stand in Free Tibet protests I eventually became very tired of this very aggressive stance that the Free-Tibetan-people were taking. I got turned off by the self immolations. I thought that was political suicide (literally!). Why would China listen to the pleas of people they will now regard as troublemarkers? It is logical to think that no one will want to listen to you if you're being so belligerent. For all they say about it being a cliche, love does makes the world go round, doesn't it? People - no matter what position you hold in a political hierarchy - all prefer friendship. I really appreciate reading your stance on this issue. I don't think violence and aggression gets us anywhere.
