In his previous incarnation as Duldzin Drakpa Gyeltsen, he made the promise to Nechung who turned himself into a dove and then a boy in white to request for Duldzin’s help to eventually arise as a Dharmapala for the protection of Lama Tsongkhapa’s middle way teaching and Gaden lineage. Dulzin Drakpa Gyeltsen devoted himself solely to the work of benefitting sentient beings, spreading and preserving the Dharma. The most famous activity was building Gaden Monastery, which he then offered up to his teacher, Lama Tsongkhapa. When he took rebirth as Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen, the promise was activated when he met Nechung in an oracle. In order to arise as Dharma Protector, Tulku Dakpa Gyeltsen needed some wrath which he did not possess for he was a learned master of the time with a reputation that surpasses Dalai Lama the 5th. Nechung helped him to generate the wrath by fanning jealousy among the people of Dalai Lama who eventually plotted to harm Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen. Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen showed his integrity by agreeing to fulfil his promise and because he and Dorje Shugden are the same being, We can trust that Dorje Shugden will always help us in our spiritual journey because he has promised to protect Lama Tsongkhapa teaching and at the same time he is an enlightened being.
