Earthquake in Tibetan resident area in China
« on: August 09, 2017, 12:39:29 AM »
Note: The Sichuan earthquake administration said the epicenter of the quake was in Ngawa prefecture, largely populated by ethnic Tibetans, but also close to the Jiuzhaigou nature reserve, Reuters reported.

*As many as 100 people feared dead in Chinese earthquake*

Magnitude 6.5 quake in Sichuan leaves seven confirmed dead, 21 seriously injured and 130,000 houses damaged, say local reports

Up to 100 people are feared dead after an earthquake of magnitude 6.5 rattled south-west China.

Seven people died and 88 were injured in the quake late on Tuesday, 21 of them seriously, the official Xinhua news agency said. It said all the dead were visitors to the area.

But China’s national commission for disaster reduction estimated that as many as 100 people may have died, based on 2010 census data of the mountainous, sparsely populated region.

More than 130,000 houses may be damaged, it added in a statement posted on its website, based on a preliminary analysis of the disaster in a remote region of Sichuan province.

The president, Xi Jinping, called for “all-out efforts to rapidly organise relief work and rescue the injured people”, according to Xinhua.

Tang Sesheng, a restaurant owner, fled her establishment in the town of Jiuzhaigou after she felt the earth moving under her. “I was also in Jiuzhaigou in 2008 during the last big quake, so I knew what it was. This felt even stronger,” she told AFP.

She said people had come out of their homes to sit out in the town’s large public square, far from any tall structures, afraid to go back inside for fear that buildings might topple. Many were also sitting in cars, thinking it safer. She added: “People didn’t dare grab anything like money or clothes – we just all ran outside right away.”

The quake occurred about 9.20pm (1320 GMT), not far from the site of a massive magnitude 8.0 earthquake that struck in 2008 leaving 87,000 people dead or missing.

Its epicentre was 284 kilometres (176 miles) north of the provincial capital Chengdu and struck at a depth of 10 kilometres, the US Geological Survey said. The affected region, Jiuzhaigou county, includes one of the country’s most famous national parks, a Unesco World Heritage Site known for karst formations and lakes. More than 38,000 people visited the tourist site on Tuesday, according to the official Xinhua news agency, which added that electricity was cut off briefly.

Some houses at the scenic spot collapsed after the quake and authorities were organising young people to help evacuate residents, a staff worker at the park told Xinhua.

Photos from the area posted on social media showed masses of people milling about on streets scattered with light debris, and a taxi dented from being hit by a large boulder.

More than 600 fire officers and soldiers have been deployed, the People’s Daily newspaper said.

The Red Cross Society of China said it was deploying emergency specialists and volunteers to assist affected communities.

“The quake hit at night, communications lines and electricity are disrupted and people are no doubt shocked and scared,” said Gwendolyn Pang, a spokeswoman for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in China. “It may take some time to learn the extent of damage and casualties.”

China is regularly hit by earthquakes, especially in its mountainous western and south-western regions.

Earlier on Tuesday, a landslide triggered by heavy rains killed at least 24 people in a different, mountainous region of Sichuan to the south of Chengdu.

May there be less suffering of the disaster affected people. I wonder if CTA is going to make donations to the affected people, or is CTA going to send people to help relief the situation?

Dear Kris

I doubt that the CTA will send any aid to the earthquake victims because they only care about themselves. At the moment, Dr. Lobsang Sangay is busy promoting his Tibetan cause in Australia and as usual contradicting himself. Only yesterday he was appealing for the world's support so the Dalai Lama's envoys can resume negotiation with China. Today, he resumed his criticism of China. He only cares about Tibet, His Tibet Cause and donation from foreign government.

CTA? The only people who can help them is China. What resources does CTA have to help these people? They cannot even help themselves... they need India! Wishful thinking Kris.

But I do hope from this incident, and the help from China... more appreciation and tolerance will be created. Hope everyone is saved and is well and start appreciating whatever they have because at the end of the day death does not differentiate if you are a Tibetan, Chinese, Indian or whatever citizen. And your karma will decide where you end up next. Will say a prayer.

As have been predicted previously, the CTA is not offering any aid whatsoever. They offered a cheap condolence and used the earthquake to criticize China.

CTA President Offers Profound Condolences to Quake Victims in Tibet

Dharamshala: The President of Central Tibetan Administration Dr Lobsang Sangay today expressed profound sadness and condolences to the victims of a massive earthquake that hit parts of Tibet on 8 August.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the earthquake that hit Dzitsa Degu County in Ngaba. My profound condolences and prayers are with the victims and those affected by the earthquake,” Dr Sangay said.

“As the relief and rescue missions are still underway, we should also think about the causes of these natural disasters which are increasingly becoming routine on the Tibetan plateau.”

” At an average elevation of 4000 metres above sea level, and with an area of 2.5m sq km, Tibet is the world’s highest and largest plateau. In its bid to control, integrate and circumscribe the native Tibetans through massive over-development, the Chinese Govt through their flawed environmental polities have uprooted the traditional lifestyle of the people and disrupted the fragile and delicate nature of Tibet’s ecosystem.”

“The Chinese leadership must therefore rein in the factors that contribute to environmental crisis in Tibet such as rapid urbanisation, transfer of population, unchecked mining, excessive damming of Tibet’s rivers, etc.”

“Tibet has witnessed a string of natural disasters in 2016 and 2017 such as floods, avalanches, landslides, mud floods, etc, caused as a result of environmentally unsustainable economic activities.”

“Therefore, China must consider these impending threats and accordingly orient its policies toward mitigating the increasing dangers posed by rapid environmental destruction,” President Dr Sangay said.

A massive earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale hit the scenic Zhitsa-Degu County in Ngaba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture (incorporated into China’s Sichuan province) in eastern Tibet late in the night of 8 August 2017.

Chinese authorities confirm at least 19 people have died and more than 200 people injured in the earthquake. However it’s not clear how many of them are Tibetans, Chinese and visiting tourists. It is feared that the number of casualties would increase dramatically as the debris and rubble is cleared.

This reminds me of a report I read of another part of Tibet which was hit by an earthquake and this area is where Gonsa Monastery is located with the largest indoor Lama Tsongkhapa statue in the world and also with a large Dorje Shugden statue. Most structures around the monastery suffered significant damage but the monastery was miraculously intact. Once again, Dorje Shugden reveals his incredible protective blessings. Dorje Shugden is highly effective protection against the force of nature especially if one's samaya is intact.

On the other hand, the peaceful Dorje Shugden on the elephant - Shize bestows effective protection against natural disasters like earthquakes aside from his main function of the pacification of diseases and bestowal of prophecy and premonition. Just thought I share that here...

Oh wow thank you Big Uncle for that information! However, I always thought that Shize is more for healing?

I see two mantras in this website here http://www.dorjeshugden.com/prayers/mantras/mantras/ so I am guessing the first one is Shize's mantra? Which brings me to my next question... which form of Dorje Shugden is the second mantra for? Shize as well but for different purposes?  I don't think it is Gyenze and the rest are pretty wrathful, so hope you can help clarify 8)

Dorje Shugden’s mantra for peace
For gaining attainments through the energy of Peaceful Shugden, peace of environment and mind, harmony in one’s abode and dwelling area, and calming of disasters
OM BENZA WIKI BITANA SHANTI SIDDHI HUNG

Dorje Shugden’s mantra for health
For long life, increasing life, healing of disease and protection from diseases
OM BENZA WIKI BITANA AYU SIDDHI HUNG
