Amazing relationship between human and lion
« on: January 19, 2014, 05:35:25 PM »
Buddhists see human and non-human animals as closely related:

both have Buddha-nature
both have the possibility of becoming perfectly enlightened
a soul may be reborn either in a human body or in the body of a non-human animal
Buddhists believe that is wrong to hurt or kill animals, because all beings are afraid of injury and death:

All living things fear being beaten with clubs.
All living things fear being put to death.
Putting oneself in the place of the other,
Let no one kill nor cause another to kill.

A lion named Christian is an amazing story of friendship, love, care and gratitude between men and animal. Humans probably have a perception and judgement that ferocious animals of the wild are "bad" and "dangerous". They can be dangerous if we are not skilful when encountering them. But if we show love and care, they probably would respond in the same way. Check this video out:

It's always amazing with the human -animal relationship. Animals are always man's best friend.
“Animals are reliable, many full of love, true in their affections, predictable in their actions, grateful and loyal. Difficult standards for people to live up to.”

If a lion kills a man, the lion is a ferocious monster. If a man kills a lion, it is a sport ! Such is the general mindset of people. As the lion is seen to be stronger and more ferocious, humans feel threatened. When threatened the fear creates delusions to kill the threat. It is wonderful to see that this general perception can be changed and that man and "beasts" can be best friends . Nice videos !

There is no difference ultimately between any beings in Samsara. All are afflicted with the 3 or 5 poisons. The difference is the karma or merit and resulting from that the throwing karma that put one in the 6 types of migration in the desire realms of which the human and lion (animal) belong to.

This lion, Christian, probably have the karma for its compassionate instinct to manifest a little. But remember, unless his is a manifestation of a Buddha he subjected to his karma of an animal and that means he is still a lion an cannot understand the Dharma.

Being locked up in probably a fortunate circumstance because he will not have the opportunity to kill for a living.

There are many news of human and animals staying close together without harming one another. But i dare not say carnivores will not harm human eventough its looking good in the pictures and videos. Animals (carnivores) can bites and eat flesh in nature as its their instinct, especially lions and tigers, how tame could they be?

Christian the lion was really popular since 2006. I wonder if the lion is still surviving in Africa...

It's really admirable and amazing when we see wild animals show such great gratitude to their rescuer, I believe Christian is not the only lion that was thankful to his rescuer, but perhaps the first to receive such fortunate outcome of re-entering the wild and even media coverage. Really a touching story. I always enjoy watching a video of Christian.

Hopefully when people watch videos like this, they will understand that animals are not just animals... they have feelings, they want to live, and they are not our toys. Just like how these two Australian man, cared about Christian and gave him the best they could. If only more people would be exposed to this, and understand animals, they will not be too quick to go on hunting games etc.

This story proves us that the existence of karma. It show us that if we do good to others eventually we will receives good deeds in return. Of course as a human being we are responsible to help each other in need not only limiting to only mankind but to other sentient being as well. We are supposed to do that living in harmony among each other, and this is not even a rule but is within us. Everyone have a Buddha seed within and for some he or she has to go through a lot in order to find this precious seed in them.

Wow! Such a beautiful relationship between beings. This is one of the reason I believe in karma. We should always be kind to everyone around us. My Guru always teach us to be kind especially to animals, be vegetarian. These animals cant speak for themselves but they know when you treat them kind and love them. We must always practice and be kind to everyone around us.

Basically human and non-human (animals) does has a close related in term of Buddhism aspect but the behaviour towards and thinking about animals is not always positive.

The doctrine of karma implies that souls are reborn as animals because of past misdeeds. Being reborn as an animal is a serious spiritual setback.

Because non-human animals can't engage in conscious acts of self-improvement they can't improve their karmic status, and their souls must continue to be reborn as animals until their bad karma is exhausted. Only when they are reborn as human beings can they resume the quest for nirvana.

This bad karma, and the animal's inability to do much to improve it, led Buddhists in the past to think that non-human animals were inferior to human beings and so were entitled to fewer rights than human beings.

Early Buddhists (but not the Buddha himself) used the idea that animals were spiritually inferior as a justification for the exploitation and mistreatment of animals.

Really amazes to see the bond between animal and human beings.
I truly believes that animal has feelings too even though they cannot speak but their action speaks for themselves. If we treat them with love and kindness they will love us and protect us.

Buddhists believe in respecting and loving every living creature, which is a tenant that any animal lover can get behind. They believe in reincarnation and that many of us we were once an animal in our pass life.
Animals nee our sympathy.Every living thing contributes something to the world's ecosystems, and they help maintain a balance of nature. It is unfair to deprive them of their rights to live. The revered elephant served as a symbol of the calm majesty possessed by one who is on the path to Enlightenment. It embodies the boundless powers of the Buddha, which are miraculous aspiration, effort, intention and analysis.Truly a divine being. It is amazing to see the bond between human and animals.

This is a very touching video. It is really amazed how lion and human can maintain such a good relationship. If we nice to animal, the animal can feel it and they will love you back unconditionally, whether we are old or young, ugly or pretty, rich or poor. They are not like human, we love with condition, we love people that we like, we don't love our enemy, some are harming those that are not in the same religion with them.

How nice it is if everyone can love each other and have peace in mind.

I can't believe my eyes.... !!!!!!!!
Wow... Such a big and powerful creature being so soft and gentle with human beings...
It shows we receive what we give.

But, what disturbs me is that we could simply buy a lion cub at Harrods as a... Christmas gift !!!!

In a good ending, Harrods stopped selling endangered species in 1976 and ceased to sell animals completely just a few weeks ago.

WOW!!! Incredibly touching especially when Christian met his 2 guardian angels again... even animals can show affection and gratitude, what more should we say of mankind?

Surely we can all learn from this touching story, a lesson that we as humans seem to have forgotten... in this trying world of conflict and violence, we need to look within ourselves and keep to our true nature... and what better protector to ensure this than Dorje Shugden himself, The Protector of Our Time!
