Tribute to Lama Jampa Ngodup Rinpoche
« on: January 14, 2013, 02:53:02 PM »
Check out this brilliant article about Lama Jampa Ngodup...I dunno about you but I havent read or heard much about him until this year. Talk about making an entrance...he lies relatively low for years, then busts out giving an initiation to loads of people including Zemey Rinpoche hahaha brill

From http://www.dorjeshugden.com/great-masters/tributes/tribute-to-lama-jampa-ngodup-rinpoche/

We all know about many illustrious and high lamas who fled Tibet during the Cultural Revolution and continued to uphold the teachings while living in foreign lands. Little is heard of lamas who have survived the Cultural Revolution and on top of that studied, practiced and are spreading the sacred Dharma to thousands within the holy Land of Snows (Tibet). One such lama is Lama Jampa Ngodup Wangchuk Rinpoche who is instrumental in bringing the nectar of Dharma to the people of his homeland. His courage and tireless efforts in serving the Buddha Dharma overcame all obstacles which has made him one of the most influential lamas of today!

All of us at dorjeshugden.com make this virtual offering of a butterlamp to the great Lama Jampa Ngodup Rinpoche, requesting him to remain for another 1,000 years to continue turning the wheel of Dharma and benefiting countless beings.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Biography
Following the great master Je Tsongkhapa, Lama Jampa Ngodup Wangchuk Rinpoche came from humble beginnings and faced countless hardships during the Cultural Revolution before he could fully dedicate his time and life towards the study and propagation of Dharma.

At the end of the Cultural Revolution, Jampa Ngodup Rinpoche took up the position as a teacher in a primary school in the Bangdak region of Tibet. Secretly he took his vows from the great Yogi Jampa Genga (????????). It was under this illustrious master that he received many teachings of both Sutra and Tantra.

At that time there was the Khenpo (abbot) of Yuan Ke Su Monastery(????) in Markam, Chamdo who is the disciple of Rinchen Gonpo Rinpoche. This old Khenpo had a book of tantra entitled “The Oral transmission of Great Bliss” which he risked his life to keep and protect during the Cultural Revolution. Books and Sadhanas were a rarity at that time, Jampa Ngodup Rinpoche requested the old Khenpo for a Sadhana which he could practice with. Khenpo Rinchen told Ngodup Rinpoche that he would transmit a set of teachings to him with the condition that he perpetuate the lineage by spreading it far and wide. Ngodup Rinpoche received this set of teachings with the promise to spread them far and wide.

Ngodup Rinpoche achieved renunciation through working for the welfare of those suffering from the aftermath of the Cultural Revolution and practiced diligently according to his guru’s instructions. Not long after, the abbot of the monastery Rinchen Genga Rinpoche passed into clear light. Jampa Ngodup Rinpoche then went to the great monastery of Sera to continue his studies under the tutelage of his master, Rinchen Gonpo Rinpoche.

One night, Jampa Ngodup Rinpoche had a dream. His teacher Rinchen Gonpo asked if he could memorize the entire Lamrim teachings. Ngodup Rinpoche answered in affirmation. The next day when he requested the oral transmission on the Lamrim Chenmo, his teacher told him that if Ngodup Rinpoche could transmit the entire Lamrim Chenmo for 3 to 5 times in his life, his teacher will pass on the lineage. Jampa Ngodup Rinpoche answered that he will transmit the teachings if he understood the meaning. On the day of transmission of the Lamrim, his teacher advised him that he would need to familiarize himself with the Vipassana teachings by Arya Nagarjuna from the Lamrim texts before he could transmit the teachings. Bearing this instruction in mind, Jampa Ngodup always starts his Lamrim discourse with the Vipassana teachings of Nagarjuna.

When he expounded the teachings on the Lamrim Chungba, his teacher instructed Jampa Ngodup Rinpoche to extract the teachings by Chandrakirti and take them to heart. This would ensure that the essence of the teachings would be transmitted. Ngodup Rinpoche took this to heart and before every discourse, Rinpoche and his teacher would discuss in detail the finer points of the teachings. This ensured that the Lamrim teachings and the “Oral transmission of Great Bliss” were simultaneously transmitted. When the discourses on the Lamrim were completed, his teacher Rinchen Gonpo told Ngodup Rinpoche: “You have fulfilled your promise of expounding the Lamrim but all that I have taught you, has it become deep like the imprints on a carved rock or the imprints in sand?” Jampa Ngodup replied immediately: “Deep as the imprints on a carved rock.”

With the blessings of the Guru and the Three Jewels coupled with Jampa Ngodup Rinpoche’s wish to benefit others, the “Oral Transmission of Great Bliss” has been made the main text of learning in the Norbuling Buddhist institute.

On many occasions, Lama Jampa Ngodup Rinpoche has since been giving teachings on the Lamrim to huge crowds on the high plateaus of Tibet. He is one of the many living masters who are fearlessly spreading the teachings of Dorje Shugden and giving initiations to thousands of both the ordained and laity.

In the face of the ban on Dorje Shugden’s practice, which had affected many Buddhist practitioners in exiled Tibetan communities and around the world, Lama Jampa Ngodup Rinpoche continues to spread the practice of Dorje Shugden far and wide within the Land of Snows and was recently the first Tibetan lama sent by the government of China to teach abroad.

We at DorjeShugden.com celebrate Lama Jampa Ngodup Wangchuk Rinpoche for all his compassionate works of raining down Dharma teachings to the masses in the Land of Snows. May Rinpoche be constantly in good health to be able to continue his works of spreading the holy Dharma. Through his guidance and efforts to propagate the Dharma, may more enlightened masters arise within and without Tibet in order to bring benefit to more people.

Over the years, many people both the lay and monks have claimed that ever since the Dalai Lama has left Tibet into exile in India, there will not be any more true Dharma practitioners or result from practice because Dharma has degenerated.

Here we have such a high and illustrious Being who has accomplished both Sutra and Tantra and above all spreading the Dharma fearlessly in a place once known to have suppressed Buddhism of the Tibetan faith. Lama Jampa ngodrup stands as a symbol of spiritual freedom and attainments in my life. He is a hero and a true reason why we have to love all Lamas!

The photos are beautiful. Thank you. Such wonderful news to rejoice in and to hear about a new generation of teachings emerging from within Tibet. Unfortunately perhaps, the focus in recent decades has shifted entirely away from Tibet, to exiled Tibetan communities around the world. Perhaps, sadly, the world has forgotten that in spite of the cultural revolution and whatever Chinese politics there may have been, there were still many, many monks, lamas and practitioners who still remained in Tibet. They have remained relatively quiet but it doesn't mean they haven't continued to maintain the lineage, preserving it for a time when it becomes "safe" and joyful to bring it out to the world again.

How powerful and calming it is to also see the tremendous Dharma activity that Lama Jampa Ngodup is bringing to thousands. For all that the CTA are doing to quell practitioners and religious freedom within their own community, the greatest irony is that there is so much more practice and dharma activity coming out of the very place that they have been apprehensive of: China. If only they would embrace the very thing they feared, they might just find that China would actually support them in far greater ways than they can on in exile at the moment. Lama Jampa Ngodup is a beautiful example of this.

Another great article here about the works of Lama Jampa Ngodup. Have a read here and fill your heart with rejoicing: http://www.dorjeshugden.com/videos/lamas-teachings/dorje-shugden-initiation-tsongkhapa-long-life-initiation-to-thousands/

May Lama Jampa Ngodup Rinpoche live very long and continue to turn the wheel of dharma, propagating and expounding on the great works of the Great Je Rinpoche and Lamrim, and offering initiations including Dorje Shugden.

May the 'blind' CTA have sight.

May the compassionate work of all lamas culminate to the lifting of the ban on Dorje Shugden.

Lama Jampa Ngodup Rinpoche is another good example of how China is freely allowing the practice of Buddhism in Tibet now. Not only that - it is also a pleasant surprise that China is even sponsoring trips for Lama Jampa Ngodup to teach the Dharma abroad. I cannot recall the last time the CTA took such initiative. To me, it shows that the Chinese government has a genuine interest in preserving and spreading the Tibetan Buddhist culture. The video of Lama Jampa Ngodup teaching and giving initiations openly in Tibet is such a welcome sight against the backdrop of religious persecutions by the CTA. The videos also debunks the heavily exaggerated rumors that the Chinese Government is not allowing freedom of religion in China controlled Tibet.

The CTA's loss is China's gain and as much as lamas like Lama Jampa Ngodup would love to see his people and the Dalai Lama being returned to Tibet, Lama Jampa is taking the correct approach that is to focus on the Dharma and not get involved in politics and by that, win China's support for his Dharma work. Lama Jampa Ngodup and others such as Ganchen Rinpoche prove the point that China is not opposed to the practice of Buddhism as the CTA would like to have us think.

When the CTA banned the Dorje Shugden practice they in fact banned one of the most efficacious way to spread the Dharma and Je Tsongkhapa's teachings. China on the contrary is allowing the Shugden practice and the Dharma benefits from that. The video of Lama Jampa Ngodup should be made available freely to Tibetans in exile for them to see how they may have been misled by their own government. It is just such a joy to see the Dharma being taught in the open plateau of Tibet.

Aye aye, I second that. There's a good series of articles going at the moment about new methods that Tibetans need to adopt vis-a-vis China and how Shugden lamas are the ones who are really paving the way for Tibetans to return home. It's sad to see that actually, the roles have reversed now and that it's China who are creating the causes for Buddhism to grow, while the CTA maintain a ban that is causing the world to look upon the Tibetan Buddhist community as a petty one that suppresses its own people's basic freedoms.

Have a read of these and come back here to the forum to share what you think - are Tibetans cutting their noses off to spite their face? And isn't it time to just eat humble pie and do what they Chinese want, for the greater good of their people?

Operation Make Friends: http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/features/operation-make-friends/
About how Tibetans need to rethink their policies, to befriend China and make their way back into Tibet with the sole and focused goal of bringing Dharma back to their people - forget the politics already!

How Shugden Lamas are bringing Tibetans back to Tibet: http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/the-controversy/how-the-shugden-lamas-are-bringing-tibetans-back-to-tibet/
About how Dorje Shugden Lamas are being ostracised by their own people for their practice of DS, but that they are actually the ones making the most headway for bringing Dharma back into the people of Tibet. An interesting perspective that the Shugden lamas express how much they really do care about their own people, that they would make that extra effort to befriend China FOR THE SAKE OF THEIR PEOPLE and DHARMA.

And this, the most powerful one:
Tibetan Buddhism: Erosion from Within or Without?
http://www.dorjeshugden.com/all-articles/the-controversy/tibetan-buddhism-erosion-from-within-or-without/
A stunning piece about how China is doing more for the growth of Buddhism in the world today than the Tibetans in exile, and that in fact, the Tibetans are causing its destruction. Challenging stuff!

Religion aside, i think the Chinese are supportive of Lama Jampa Ngodup Rinpoche for practical and political reasons also. It is well known to the Chinese government that HH the Dalai Lama is against Dorje Shugden practice because the Dalai Lama says that it shortens his life and that the practice also is an obstacle to Tibetan independence.

Any Dorje Shugden practitioner is seen as anathema to the Dalai Lama and his supporters. Therefore, Lama Jampa who is a strong advocate of Dorje Shugden, is the best Tibetan Buddhist ambassador for Tibet/China since there is absolutely zero threat that when he is out of China/Tibet, he will be calling for Tibetan independence or working with the CTA to call for independence.

All Shugden Lamas are immediately acceptable to China for this reason and thus China can have confidence in all Shugden Lamas to just focus on Buddhism and Dorje Shugden and not be involved in Tibetan politics. And this was all created by the Dalai Lama!

I find this thread very powerful, together with the pictures as it shows that Buddhism is indeed growing in China, totally contradicting the CTA's report on how freedom is being restricted or such similar lies. I really rejoice towards Lama Jampa's achievements and I am  very happy that the Gelug lineage is still preserved in Tibet and it is still pure, unaffected by the politics of the Dorje Shugden ban that is happening in Dharamsala and elsewhere in the world. The local government did not interfere with his Dharma teachings at all and allowed him to proceed as usual. I dont see any religious prosecution here at all. Do you?

Ensapa, you're right...the pictures and video speak a thousand words! I see lay people and monks sitting together - literally from wall to wall - to receive the precious dharma teachings and blessings from Lama Jampa Ngodup Rinpoche. I don't see any repression from the Chinese authorities here at all! If the Chinese government wanted to suppress Buddhism, they would not send Lama Jampa out of China to spread Dharma. What would be the purpose? I would assume that Lama Jampa's Dharma teachings outside of China would bring people TO China for more Dharma! So compared to the CTA who is banning Dorje Shugden practice, who is promoting Buddhism and who is suppressing it?

It would be great if Lama Jampa was sent out of China to teach because it would prove that Dorje Shugden is good, and also the core of Gelugpa Buddhism is the Lamrim. CTA can claim all they want that China is suppressing Buddhism and that it is the main reason that they need to take Tibet back, but we all know that is not true after analyzing CTA's actions and intentions. May Lama Jampa have a long life and may Lama Jampa establish monasteries in other parts of China and promote Dorje Shugden to many Han Chinese! See! the Dharma can still spread without Dalai Lama and CTA.

Rejoice! Bow down low to Lama Jampa Ngodup Wangchuk.

He has brought Dharma to so many people in Tibet and China. From these pictures, it is showing clearly that China is opened and give religious freedom to it’s people, including Tibetan. So, what CTA said about China is not correct.

Besides, this also means that Dorje Shugden practice is promoting peace and harmony. Or else, China would never support and promote it with their previous experience of Fa Lun Gong.

Long life Lama Jampa Ngodup Wangchuk!

China, by sponsoring trips for high lamas such as Lama Jampa Ngodup Rinpoche to go abroad to teach is actually making important connections with other influential lamas with Buddhism as a platform. This is something the CTA should have done instead of engaging with the West and China politically where they have little to bargain with. The failure of the CTA to leverage on their strength instead of weakness has yielded disastrous results for over fifty years.

By banning Dorje Shugded who is such an important and enlightened deity to the Gelugpas, the CTA isolated themselves from a tremendous support base they could have had in the Shugden lamas and practitioners around the world. Support which China clearly recognized and have capitalized on. However, it would be safe to say that most Tibetan lamas abroad who have been shunned by the Tibetan government remain loyal to the Dalai Lama and the cause of the nation. Therefore it is still not too late for CTA to reverse the band and make amends with Shugden worshippers around the world and enlist their support to achieve the collective goal of all Tibetans.

It is a slap in the face of CTA that, while they are hounding Dorje Shugden practitioners in India and abroad, within Tibet and in China, high Lamas and great Masters are fearlessly spreading the Dharma and using Shugden as a vehicle to do this! On top of this, the Chinese Government is now supporting these Lamas. Why? Because they are practitioners of Shugden, the very Protector that is being condemned and banned by HH Dalai Lama and CTA!

Lama Jampa Ngodrup Rinpoche is one of the many courageous and most compassionate Lamas engaged in spreading the Dharma in this way within China. Now China has shown recognition of these Lamas by supporting them through helping them to build and extend their monasteries. They have recently also selected  Ngodrup Rinpoche to go abroad to teach the Dharma.

Ngodrup Rinpoche had not only survived the Cultural Revolution, but had studied the Dharma of the Gelug Lineage( including the Lamrim)and practiced earnestly and then spread the Dharma to thousands. He had mastered the Lamrim with a view to expounding and propagating it. Of his mastery of the Lamrim, this is how it is: upon being asked by his teacher, he responded by saying that the Lamrim had been as deeply imprinted in his mindstream as "the imprints on a carved rock". He is thus instrumental in bringing the Dharma to thousands in his beloved homeland of Tibet, thus propagating Je Tsongkapa's teachings tirelessly in the holy Land of Snows.

One of the most influential lamas of today, he has on many occasions taught the Lamrim to huge crowds on the Tibetan Plateau. He is also one of the many great Gelug Masters who are fearlessly spreading the teachings of Dorje Shugden and giving initiations to thousands ,both the lay and ordained. He has nurtured and continues to nurture incarnations of great masters and future great masters.

May this highly compassionate and humble Lama  live long and continue to turn the Wheel of Dharma, both at home and abroad, for the benefit of all beings.

All that China wants are peace and harmony of the nation and they will do anything for it. For example they have been supporting temples and the like. People in China are beginning to experience moral decay and thus, the government realizes the importance of religion. I really hope that there will be more stories like these because it would be very encouraging. Let's hope that China will continue to support Buddhism in this way, so that people in Tibet do not need to go down all the way to india where Dorje Shugden practitioners are not welcomed.

Lama Jampa Ngodup shared the dharma in Austria at Rabten Choeling If anyone has the video of it do share here. Dorje Shugden and its lamas are going global from the looks of it no ban, or CTA can stop them. CTA cannot stop them because Dorje Shugden is real and wholesome dharma protector practice that will change the world and benefits so many sentient beings of al manner especially those who have no hope or protector.
