Another associate of the Dalai Lama, Dagri Rinpoche who actually works in the Dalai Lama's Office, has been arrested after an Indian woman lodged a complaint of sexual assault against him.
I find this news very disgusting. It's well known amongst Tibetans that he has been molesting women for many years. They even say there's a particular part of the female body that this 'Rinpoche' really likes. Finally someone steps up and speaks out so he can stop hurting women. Very disturbing and disappointing.

Tibetans on social media are furious that another of the Dalai Lama’s associates is in police custody accused of sexually harassing women. This person explains the accused is Dagri Rinpoche Thupten Jangchub who is a Geshe Lharampa from Sera Jey Monastery and works for the Dalai Lama’s Office in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh. He was travelling from Delhi to Gaggal Airport when he allegedly assaulted a woman from Kinnaur, a region in India where Tibetan Buddhism is strong and people have a blind faith towards Tibetan monks and lamas. On a flight arriving at Kangra airport from Delhi, a man molested a woman sitting on the plane. Upon reaching the airport the woman filed a report with the police. The report was lodged in Gaggal. The authorities have arrested the accused and taken him into police custody.
The accused is a resident of Bylakuppe but for some time has been working in Mcleod Ganj at the Dalai Lama’s Office. The woman, a resident from Kinnaur, told police in her sworn statement that the 65-year-old Dagri Rinpoche Thubten Jangchub, a resident of Bylakuppe, molested her on the plane.

AND it turns out FPMT and Lama Zopa Rinpoche knew about the Dagri Rinpoche's behavior over 10 years ago but did nothing about it. In fact, people were asked not to talk about the issue. Seems like FPMT wanted to cover it up. The question is why?

In India, women don’t go to the police for ‘small’ matters because it is very problematic. You have to spend a lot of time trying to convince the police that you are telling the truth. Especially for cases of sexual assault, their first instinct is to blame the victim. So for this lady to approach the police, AND for the police to take her report seriously means they found truth to the allegations. Last time when they did large puja against Shugden in Sera Jey Monastery to destroy Shugden, Dragri Rinpoche is the main ritual master to do this puja. He wants to look good and wants name and fame. This is truly a shame, after when someone taken refuge to the Triple gems, they would already know what they can do and what cannot do, more over he is a Rinpoche, the person who goes around the world to give Dharma teaching, so many people are looking up onto him as he is the one who give advice to his students, to help his students to overcome difficulties, to make the students to change to be better, but then at the other hand, the spiritual teacher is breaking the vow. This could be the worse nightmare to the spiritual practitioners, because they are learning from their master but unfortunately their master are not practicing what they teach.
Buddha has said that Dharma will died, but Dharma died not because of the non Dharma practitioners, in fact, it is the people inside the Dharma who destroyed it with their mis-behavior.
Dagri Rinpoche is one of the best example, when outside people saw the spiritual master is doing these crimes, then how do we expect whatever we learned from him is correct? and how more do we expect the outsiders will want to come to practice Dharma?

For everyones interest, some lady named Glendas been posting screenshots of some discussion about Dagri Rinpoches "activities". Its an important reminder to Dharamsala, PEOPLE ARE WATCHING. This Adelaide lady in the screenshots doesnt seem to read Hindi either so how did she learn about this incident so quickly? And why does she keep insisting that Dagris done more than whats been reported?
The million dollar question is, what are the Dalai Lamas Office and FPMT going to do now this has become public? Are they still going to keep flogging Dagri all over the world, and INTENTIONALLY expose the public to someone whose been arrested for sexual assault?

No woman would go and lodge a POLICE REPORT about sexual assault for no reason. The Tibetan leadership had better remember that everyone is watching what they are going to do next. Don't tell me the centre in Malaysia LDC FPMT still wanted to invite Dagri Rinpoche to join their Wesak celebration... :-\
If the Rinpoche really cannot attend their event, that will really a big blow to the centre - they can't have this Rinpoche as the attraction for their Wesak Day and less donation coming in to the centre as well... I guess. Too bad :( The real bad is those who have received teachings and initiations from the Rinpoche, you imagine how hurt their feeling will be and so much damage would have done to their faith in Buddhism?
Why this LDC FPMT did not investigate the background of the teacher first before they're inviting anyone? A centre like this actually should play the role to filter out the not sincerely monks and get the pure ones for the practitioners. But this does not happen. It's sad to hear news re Dagri Rinpoche, but even more sad to hear there are so many centre who are after money and fame only.

Indian women will not simply report sex crimes unless it is real as it brings much shame to herself, her family and her village. Unless it is real and can be proven, they suffer in silence. So I believe this has happened or the woman would not have reported. The police take it seriously because the woman has convinced them or usually the police will not pay heed.

India is the most dangerous country for sexual violence against women, according to the Thomson Reuters Foundation 2018 survey. This sexual assault problem only women can fix by having more female leaders in politics. They won't solve violence against women or other gender issues, but it can better protect vulnerable women from abuse.
It is very shocking to know that India’s National Crime Records Bureau reported 338,954 crimes against women – including 38,947 rapes – in 2016, the most recent government data available. That’s up from 309,546 reported incidents of violence against women in 2013. Can you imagine this!
Some researchers on diversity in government suggest that one of the reasons India has not been able to effectively address crimes against women is the lack of women in national political office because, research shows, having women in government can lead to more and better laws that safeguard women’s well-being.
The Indian man will not do anything for the women because they are somewhat unworthy and merely objects of their enjoyment. More Indian women should be involved in politics and end this issue once and for all, so Tibetan lamas who abuse the name of tantra cannot take advantage of the beautiful Indian women like Dagri Rinpoche.

I never heard Dorje Shugden lamas involved in this kind of scandals, but it seems to be quite common at the anti-Shugden side. I guess if you are not a loyal person, if you could betray your guru and lineage, it must have meant that you will not be loyal to your vows and practice already. That’s why those gave up on Dorje Shugden side always involved in different type of scandals. They can’t even hold the very basic vows.

As usual, there's no news from the Dalai Lama's office, the CTA and the FMPT. I guess they will just wait and let it pass and won't say anything especially now since there's still no English news reporting about this incidence. If the Dalai Lama‘s office could stay quiet about Sogyal’s case, why can't they stay quiet about this case? Sogyal's case was much bigger and has been brought up to international level. If the Dalai Lama's office and the CTA who had been taking money from the west for decades could choose to remain quiet about Sogyal's case which has happened in the west and hurting the western people, what could possibly push them to say anything regarding things that happened in India, involving poor Indian woman and only India's newspapers are covering?
I don't see any possibility they will say anything. Perhaps scandals like this had happened too many times already. If they were to say anything regarding this, then they might end up dealing with this kind of news every day. I also believe, there will not be any action taken against Dagri Rinpoche. After a while, we shall expect his name to appear and active on the International Buddhist arena again, involving in various Dharma activities as if he is so holy.

Shugden practitioners are not allowed to attend Dalai Lama teaching because they consider broken samaya with Dalai Lama. The people who involved with the scandals but still can be around Dalai Lama, their samaya is not broken? Their monk vows are not broken? Dorje Shugden practice does not harm anyone but those scandals are but why Dalai Lama still can allow it?

To Your Holiness the Dalai Lama and your regime the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA),
1. What is worse karma for a person, practicing Dorje Shugden or molesting/abusing women?
2. Which one will go to the hells? Someone who practice Dorje Shugden or molest/abuse women?
3. Which sin is heavier? Practicing Dorje Shugden or harming/abusing women?
My friends all say without a doubt harming women is a huge sin and bigger sin than practicing Dorje Shugden (assuming practicing Shugden is bad at all). So these women abusers will go to the three lower realms and break their religious samaya (commitments) with you Your Holiness. So how come they are allowed in your teachings and in your environment? How come you don't speak out against them publicly and ban them from mainstream Tibetans as you do with Tibetans who practice Dorje Shugden?

It's just that it is a shameful thing and many do not want to confront him directly. Since Dagri works 'close' to the Dalai Lama, people do not want to say anything to offend the Dalai Lama and hence Dagri has been getting away with it for years.
All this news about Dagri molesting a woman on the airplane has spread to the mainstream Indian press. Too bad. Shameful for Tibetans, Tibetan leadership and Buddhism. Shameful for Sera Jey Monastery where Dagri comes from.

I was told that his preferred female body part is the chest area. The word used to describe him is 'notorious'. It seems in the Tibetan community when there are rumours, even if its just rumours, it has basis in the truth. In this case though, we know its fact and its not rumours because the blokes been arrested!

The actions of Dagri Rinpoche, does not reflect a scholar who has received the Geshe Lharampa. Where does it say in any of the vows that a monk can touch and molest women in a sexual manner?
Such actions is very damaging to the dharma and Gelug lineage. I am very sure FPMT, will now try to cover their tracks again, remember FPMT used to practice Dorje Shugden but since the Dalai Lama started the ban on Dorje Shugden, how will they disassociate with this teacher who was clearly was promoted by FPMT?
Or will FPMT will ignore all this news about this Rinpoche and allow him to teach at FPMT centers. FPMT sometimes behave almost like some of these theistic institutions, if you believe our buddha or our god, you have salvation, if you believe and practice Dorje Shugden you will go to hell. Well it isn’t Dorje Shugden that can send us to hell, it is our karma why FPMT does not see that I don’t know to be honest.
I feel for the women, and all the students of Dagri Rinpoche, hope the all the women will find their way with Buddhism once more and able to come to some closure and peace with the experiences they got with Dagri Rinpoche.

The former Buddhist nun is really brave and really appreciate her courage to expose Dagri Rinpoche. It's shocking to know how the turn around the story and blame it to the former nun. This is really terrible. People take refuge to the 3 jewels and rely on a Guru for their spiritual path but unfortunately, these people were taken advantage and being accused to be the one that at fault. This is really bad but at least the truth revealed. More and more people should come up and speak up. Cannot let him get away.

This is very shocking when a famous lama, not the only one, has been getting away due to the people around him staying silent. And he kept on hurting more women all these years because there is no repercussion for his actions.
Is this what a Buddhist should act towards the trust of others? A Buddhist teacher nonetheless. This is a real shame and betrayal towards people who have supported morally and financially to Tibetan organsations all these years due to their kindness.
People believe the Tibetans are genuine and needed help. People attended the teachings and offered up their wealth to huge and famous organisation but what happened in the end? Betrayal, anger, hurt, disappointment.
Is this how you treat others? Returning kindness of others with harm.

I saw this on the LDC FPMT FB page. I never thought that Lama Zopa knew about it 10 years ago but choose to keep quiet. Not only did he kept quiet, but he also asked people to not say anything about it. This is very very bad. Firstly, Lama Zopa decided to stop the Dorje Shugden practice which caused Lama Osel (Lama Yeshe's reincarnation) to manifest failures and unable to continue the noble works of Lama Yeshe. Secondly, the FPMT went around telling people to break their samaya with their guru so they give up on Dorje Shugden. Thirdly, FPMT decided to cover up the sexual scandal of Dagri Rinpoche and has been allowing him to assault many nuns and female practitioners of the FPMT.
FPMT is becoming a very bad Buddhist organisation. Their focus is really nothing more than money, power & sex... the Three Poisons that kill any Buddhist organisations and dharma. What a shame!

It is such a disappointment that the CTA and FPMT cover Dagri Rinpoche up for so long. Apparently Lama Zopa has known it a long time ago but he did not do anything about it and Dagri Rinpoche continues to harm more women. What I find very disturbing is Dagri Rinpoche was violating nuns! I believe many people have looked up upon Dagri Rinpoche because Lama Zopa has high regards on him. But Dagri Rinpoche's behaviour makes people lose their faith in Buddhism. So instead of preserving the pure lineage of Tsongkhapa, FPMT is destroying it. If FPMT is serious about preserving the pure lineage, they should at least make an announcement now to reassure the public they will look into this issue and take necessary actions.

Looks like HHDL's chaps are NO angels. What's disturbing is that Dagri Rinpoche has been violating lay and ordained women for years and FPMT allowed him to get away with it. Am sure Lama Zopa knows about this and yet no action was taken. What a shame! A man of robes is supposed to nurture one's spirituality, not destroy it.
So glad that the Indian woman reported him. Hopefully that more women violated by Dagri Rinpoche will come out and speak up.

A video of another one of Dagri Rinpoche’s victims has just been released. In it she speaks of Dagri Rinpoche's molestation of her over 10 years ago and the ordeal she went through. What's more is that it was covered up by not only FPMT but also His Holiness the Dalai Lama's own office!
Dagri Rinpoche is a monster molester! He should be stripped from all his title and his privileges and actually give his vows back since he has broken them. Ms Jaki is really courageous to make a video and speak out for all the women who have been sexually abused by Dagri.
How can the Dalai Lama allow this? Why is it those who are close to the Dalai Lama and appears to be all goody are in fact monsters in disguise. It really makes me think deeper as to what kind of leadership is CTA. One that maintains, promotes and nurtures sexual predators? And FPMT - huge SHAME on you for promoting this Rinpoche and allowing your nuns and people to be exposed and sexually abused by such a monster. Disgusting! You guys should be sued because you knew what kind of monster he is, yet you cover up, told the victims to be quiet and hush up. This karma is really on you then, because you are just as guilty for promoting him. And you keep inviting him to teach?!????????
I hope Ms Jaki video will encourage more women and nuns who have been sexually abused to come up and speak up and not let this sexual abuser get away with his crimes! He should be arrested.

It is unbelievable for a monk to do these kinds of nasty things to women. Who knows that someone that works in His Holiness's office had a history of molesting women for over a decade. His Holiness has a good reputation of being a monk that holds his vows purely and the people around him are assumed to have the same qualities.
Hence, Dagri Rinpoche is able to carry out his nasty deeds by abusing the trust of those women to His Holiness. According to a victim that spoke up against Dagri Rinpoche recently, she was molested by him 10 years ago in Dharamshala. From this we can conclude that Dagri Rinpoche has been performing these nasty deeds for over a decade. Who knows how many more victims are there.
It was said that instead of caring and protecting young western nuns, Dagri Rinpoche sexually abuses them instead and covering it using lies. Due to his actions, Dagri Rinpoche would have broken his vows which made him an unfit candidate to give transmit vows to another monk. Hence, all the monks that had received their vows from Dagri Rinpoche would be in a very difficult situation on their spiritual path. This is how damaging Dagri Rinpoche is.

This is what happens when the people around Dala Lama out of control. Obviously, Dagri Rinpochecois taking full advantage from Dalai Lama to cover his sickening act. There must be people who have faith in him and taken initiation or blessing from him. Will it still be effective? Look at how bad the impact from a lama that misbehaves which affecting so many people spiritual path. How you want people to have confidence with Dalai Lama and FPMT because they just keep quiet???

I am totally speechless. This whole thing is about Dagri, a reincarnated lama who is close to the Dalai Lama and Lama Zopa and respected by many and gave ordination to many, molested a nun in a monastery in Dharamsala. The incidence was being brought up to the Dalai Lama's office and Lama Zopa (FPMT) yet not only nothing is done, but they even helped to cover the news and let Dagri spreading lies by putting blame on the victim. The worst is Lama Zopa even instructed people to cover the scandal and allow this criminal to continue giving Dharma teachings and ordination to people for more than 10 years.
The whole thing: the people (Dagri, Lama Zopa, Dalai Lama, Nun) and place (Dharamsala, FPMT, Dalai Lama's office) are all Dharma related, but the actions (molesting, lies, cover-up, allowing criminal to give ordinations ) are all totally against Buddha Dharma.
What shall I, a lay dharma practitioner comment on incidence like this where I supposed to regard these people as Buddha if they happen to be my guru which is very possible judging from how active they are in giving teachings to different part of the world.
I am thankful I wasn't exposed to them earlier.

One of the major Indian English newspapers, “The Tribune” has picked up Dagri Rinpoche's sex scandal news about him being arrested for molesting a woman on board an Air-India flight. Another charge of molestation has been levelled against him by Jakaira Perez Valdivia from Spain who released a video, accusing him of molesting her at his residence in Namgyal Monastery, McLeodganj in 2008 when she was staying in Dharamsala as a Buddhist nun. Now the news has spread all over India. Too bad for CTA as they pave their way for Tibetans to further lose support from their Indian host. Again, this reflects how ungrateful the Tibetans in exile are, to sexually assault the citizens of their kind host when they are 'refugees'.

Dharamsala, May 9
A “MeToo” campaign has been initiated against a senior Buddhist teacher Dagri Rinpoche, who had been accused of molestation earlier this month while on a flight from Delhi to Gaggal.
On May 3, a woman filed a complaint with the Kangra police, stating that Rinpoche molested her on board an Air-India flight. The Gaggal police detained him before he was released on bail.
Another charge of molestation has been levelled against him. Jakaira Perez Valdivia from Spain has released a video, accusing him of molesting her at his residence at Namgyal Monastery in McLeodganj in 2008. At the time, she was staying in Dharamsala as a Buddhist nun.
In a YouTube video that Valdivia posted on Tuesday, the Spanish woman said it took a long time for her to muster courage and tell what had happened because some people tried to convince her that it didn’t happen, or that whatever he did was out of compassion.
Rinpoche invited her to his residence where he asked her to take off her clothes so that he could perform “some work” on her. He gave her an alcoholic drink, saying it was a “holy substance” which he consumed several times during the session and also poured it on her body. He touched her inappropriately.
The four-page statement she wrote was given to the Kangra police. The copies were sent to the Dalai Lama’s office and also to the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) as he is one of FPMT’s revered teachers.
The Dalai Lama’s office arranged a meeting between the two, for Rinpoche to apologise. Valdivia said since he apologised, she didn’t approach the police.
She said in the video that she knew of many women who had been molested by Rinpoche. She urged them to come forward to tell their stories. In 2010, Valdivia wrote a four-page declaration detailing the incident in which she explained that she had approached Rinpoche for blessing and consulted with him a disk hernia problem so that she could avoid surgery.

FPMT used to be a good dharma centre with strong Buddhist values and samaya with their teacher. Since the passing of Lama Yeshe, it went down and down. First, they broke their samaya with Lama Yeshe by giving up Dorje Shugden practice to be politically correct and on the same side as His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Then, they protected a sexual predator that is harming their own ordained community and members. Why would FPMT do that? The only explanation for this is that FPMT is afraid of losing His Holiness the Dalai Lama support if they expose the nasty deeds of one of his people. By doing that, they are willing to let their own nuns and members suffer silently.
It is exactly the same as the Dorje Shugden issue. They are willing to sacrifice their holy bond with their teacher, Lama Yeshe just to be "right". In the end, even though they get the support of CTA and His Holiness the Dalai Lama, they lose their own teacher. Lama Osel who is the current incarnation of Lama Yeshe manifested signs of him drifting apart from FPTM and Dharma. This is an obvious sign of broken samaya.

It is sad to see that a good Dharma centre like FPMT that was built with the sweat of many sincere people under the guidance of Lama Yeshe had to generate like this. They refused to do the practice that their teacher assigned to them and now they are harbouring sex offender. What a disgrace!

The latest news from the Tibetan portals state that there is a second victim that has surfaced so it looks like it is true after all. That Dagri had many abuses and he continues to abuse women uncontrollably. Its part of the karma FPMT is coming back at them for the wrongs they have done. FPMT and Lama Zopa are the ones who heavily promoted Dagri Rinpoche although they know he has been molesting women and yet they still send him to their various centres both east and west. Now it has come out in the Tibetan language too as you can see below in the attachment. It is spreading among the Tibetans.

I think the FPMT bashing some display here is not right either. There is a lot of good within the FPMT, a lot inspirational and good work too. A good example – who explicitly followed the Dalai Lama’s advice – are the 8 who wrote the letter on abuse in Rigpa. Another good example is Buddhist Project Sunshine. You can learn from such what works and reaps results. Only complaining, condemning, trashing people and organisations won’t work! People who know survivors of abuse should openly ask them what they need.

A priest having intercourse with a woman in a tantric manner is called ‘karmamudra’. Mudra is something like a sex partner. Karma is activity. Karmamudra is as important as mahamudra in kagyu sect in the mind of many advanced practitioners of Tibetan lamaism. In other words, sex between celebate monk and woman is as common as indian policemen taking bribe in the classical Tibet. The women were willing accomplices, and many felt blessed by the “holy male genital”.
But problems start to happen when civilizations clash. These clueless lamas are applying karmamudra practice to Western women who are thrice more independent in spirit. Cases like this will continue to happen until CTA organize a workshop for all the lamas in exile – irrespective of their sect or lineage – on sexual conduct and consent. This will go a long way in reducing cases of rape, extorsion, and sexual abuse by Tibetan Lamas.

You are far from FPMT geographically. I am not. Their world headquarters is 8 blocks from my home. From 2008 until 2016, I attended programs and classes at their advanced-degree secular college, Maitripa, here in Portland Oregon. Relative to most of the world, I saw *a lot* of FPMT and LZR this decade. They wreak.
I also was used unwittingly as I was not savvy that the teacher/co-founder of the college – a llarumpa geshe who dropped the robe and has a chapter in Lhundrup Sopa’s Biography, “Like a Waking Dream,” – was wearing one face to appear as a joyful and pure hearted teacher in intention, but expressed his grasping at true motive in private. He believed that once Emptiness was Realized, all Ethics were but fuel for his own rise to Power.
He spoke of power all the time, but never of relationship mundane to Ultimate power. He used the word power in every teaching, but never love, and rarely Bodhichitta. His motivation betrayed his intention. He was in service to such an organization.
His remaining teacher now sits on HHDL’s Gendun throne. All his other teachers, 2nd co-founder, and prior Tri Rinpoche died w/in 2 years. Ethics died, too. His consort of many years almost died of a dble aneurism, replaced immediately by a consort as FPMT brand approved, had been corrupted to hate and use “black” siddhi. LZP stayed in AU, rarely returning.
Tenzin, FPMT wreaks of a floral scented corpse. You can find evidence. FPMT public Dharma education series wanes, the colleges wax. Only two now exist – in Italy and down the street from me. Check Wikipedia edits for Maitripa. LZP is listed as sole founder, right after 2nd co-founder died at 47. FPMT re-writes history all the time. FPMT is a PR firm except in name.

Who becomes a monk these days? A poor, destitute and orphan. There are very few from well to do families who send their children to become a monk. In a way…making someone a monk against their will or out of poverty.. it is but absolute voilation of human rights as the poor child is subjected to molestation and sexual abuse by big lamas of tulku’s order. That is how Buddhism reformed in Taiwan during industrialization era under the label of humanistic Buddhism. Yes there are still many problems and occassional scandals etc but quality of monastics is very high and able to be more beneficial to society and lay devotees bc nearly all finished high school and college or some work experience before becoming monastics. So then after studying sutras and meditation training, they are more skilled in many other areas like running service projects, dharma programs, Buddhist colleges, temples for working lay people etc.
Another advantage they have are educated and fully ordained nuns, so ani gompa are all having ani abbess and government according to nuns vinaya. When girls and lay women and men see the ordained women very educated and capable, it is easier for them to feel confidence of dharma leadership.
For Tibetan Buddhism, HH Karmapa has expressed intention to bring such culture to Tibetan Buddhism. Maybe the new Geshema graduates will take some initiative for this some day.

The quality of lamas and tulkus is surely declining. Lamas living in the midst of all the comfort and luxuries of the world sit on the throne and talk of shunning materialism. I have heard about lamas charging high fees for teachings which in other word is commercialising the words of Buddha. Anybody can become a tulku with some connection to a Rinpoche. If the father is a tulku then the son surely is a tulku.
His Holiness all the time warns followers to enquire about the teacher first and then follow but Western followers love to be associated with Richie rich lamas.

The Buddha was himself a monk and had high regard for monasticism as the bedrock of Buddhism. He had also clearly outlined provisions for “expulsion” to weed out the corrupt and miscreant monks. In his life, Buddha had expelled many monks from monasteries for the good of Dharma and to justify people’s trust in the Sangha as the sole keeper of Dharma.
It is in fact true and sad that a few disrobed monks, including some prominent people, first have sex with women and then disrobe either voluntarily or after they’re caught pants down. This is not how it is done. First disrobe, then follow your wild dreams.
I think, these are what Tibetan monks should avoid:
1. Keeping women in their quarters
2. Unnecessarily touching women, even if it is out compassion
3. Walking hand in hand with female siblings and relatives in public places (people don’t know that she’s your sister)
4. Eating private dinner with a woman
5. Liking, following and making execssive praises to girls on Facebook and social forums
6. Showing off expensive phones, goggles, cameras, etc, in public places
7. Going to cinema halls and dance in robes [wear maroon track pants]
8. Eating in bar or with people drinking alcohol.
The bottomline is simple. If you can’t follow the rule prescribed by the Buddha, better stop pretending to be one. A fake and corrupt monk is better than no monk at all. These few rotten Tomatoes bring bad names to hundreds of other good monks and nuns who are true to the Dharma, in spirit and practice.

It is true that the FPMT needs to have a clearer policy for reporting and dealing with potential abuse, but to say they have actively been covering up anything is a total misrepresentation of the events. As for the events in 2008, FPMT had been in contact with HHDL’s office, and were informed that the accusations were dropped, the police were not going any further with investigation, and that HHDL office had offered mediation session. (Also remember that HHDL’s office is not same as HHDL, but rather it is referencing lay people on the office staff).
From FPMT side, if accusations were dropped then there is nothing else for them to do. There have been *no other* public accusations against this Rinpoche before or after the 2008 incident until this current accusation from the woman on the plane.
I am not denying Jakaira’s account, it may be 100% accurate. But if the charges are dropped and there are no additional accusations, what is an organization like FPMT, who were not part of the original accusation nor part of the investigation, to do? If the police say the accusation and charges were dropped due to lack of evidence and they are told that official mediation has happened, how are they expected to do more than that? And now with this current instance, if, again, the charges are dropped or there is no further investigation, what should they do? If the charges are not dropped and investigation moves forward then yes they have a responsibility. But if they are dropped?
My point is that to claim FPMT has been aiding in covering up repeat offenses is simply not true. There has been one accusation and those charges were (officially) dropped, and that is what FPMT acted on. Of course now we wait to see results of this new accusation and how HHDL’s office and…

1) how many cases of molesting women by Dagri Rinpoche have been reported to them in the last 30 years?

4) how could it come that FPMT people tell a victim of molesting that groping her breasts and pressing the lama’s genital in her back is a compassionate massage? Why invalidating survivors’ experiences?

Bhikshuni (nun’s) pratimoksha vinaya is very clear on this point::
Treatment from male doctors must be with another person present, nuns must not be in a room alone with male with a door closed, etc.
Given homosexuality, such rules can apply to any gender combinations for better results.
Even if Tibetan tradition monastics do not want full ordination vows, they can learn these rules as guidance, and lay teachers can also follow proper lay precepts. They are also obligated to follow laws of the country, so need to learn these if not taught in gombas.
Anyone who studies vinaya commentaries will know that all kinds of antics are possible with human nature and inclination to compulsively uphold 8 worldly dharmas. Each of the monastic rules arose from such kinds of events “unbecomming of a follower of the Buddha”!
Prevention is easier than cure. Gompas and dharma centers should make policies and response protocols in advance of incidents, and apply to all equally regardless of social status.

IT is time that we Tibetan women must come out and speak loudly against sexual abuse by monks, Geshe, Trulku, Rinpoche and Lamas. I know of 100s of Tibetan women who have been abused by Lamas and monks. We are forced to keep silent because of shame associated with the sex. The worst is some of the assistant sexual concerns minor and young boys and girls.
The problem is Tibetan monks, Lamas, Geshe, Trulkus and Rinpoches are brought up in monasteries and not contact with women, and they don’t know how to talk to a woman. When they reach adulthood, their sexual desire and urges are strong, and the only way they know is by force.
I avoid being alone with any male religious figures because whenever I have been alone, lamas have tried to force themselves on me. Very often when I am walking alone, a monk would expose himself.
It is time that the Tibetan women should speak out against sexual abuse by our religious figures.

I used to go Kora every day in Dharamsala, but I had to stop going because there was a monk from Namgyal Drastang who is always exposing himself. In case you haven’t figures it out, a code of silence placed on speaking about such wrong-headed actions by the monastically trained allows these guys to gossip like old women.
Women who are had are obligated to remain silent; they become like a bug in a web. The spider can have them at leisure. The word spreads in a language few in anywhere but Tibet understand.
Think of it this way: If you spend most of your life in renunciation, and then *poof* you’re not,that’s not a butterfly emerging from your foreskin.
The only way you can help beings is to to be able to walk in their shoes. You don’t get an an apple from a thorn tree.
Practice what enjoyment you want to be to yourself, first. Explore thoroughly your secret self, know it well. Then you will be ready to understand others with compassion as you will truly be able to see through their eyes.
They hold a wrong view for a long time that because emptiness is form and form is also emptiness that they cannot really cause harm to others. This is a being with a still immature View, as still missing the experience of great compassion. That’s the stuff of saints.
Sometimes, very rarely one of them finally “gets it” Mostly if he’s taking consorts, he isn’t fully Realized as having a full experience of compassion. And you are expected to be his subordinate as woman, because that is the 3K year old way of the monastic system.
So, you must understand from the start that almost none of these guys are even close to being realized, despite lharumpa with a side of Geshe.
The purpose of the monastic system is to perpetuate the monastic system. And unfortunately, karma is used to excuse the means justifying the ends. But it never does.

I’m studying vajrayana and I have been a member of the Bethel church of supernatural ministry for years. The time of Kings is gone and the fall of the religious sects is well underway. Kali yuga is in full effect and greatly affecting how people see the world and I for one believe that truth is the one God. There isn’t any.
There is a statement that all staff and teachers must sign as having read, and which is to be posted in an area accessible to staff and teachers, but it contains no such provisions to be made available to students. Nor are there any in their student handbook, or other information of administrative nature made accessible for students. However, students cannot see the handbook until they are enrolled, as provided the online link (as of 2014).
The statement is intended for an audience stated as staff and teachers, and directs itself to FPMT policies and requirements dealing with actions at centers and schools relating to only the staff and teachers.
In fact, there is no method whatsoever for students to follow as any procedure of grievance or complaint for any reason for students.
Further, there is no method whatsoever to address sexual harassment or direct attempt to address unwanted attempts at sexual contact protecting students with a process, including naming a specific role or office that students can rely on. Absolutely nothing is provided for the student to protect them and their Rights, let alone acknowledging that sexual harassment of students will not be tolerated.
It does state, however, that staff and teachers are to follow a process should any issues arise that need to be addressed for them.
Here, duplicity of gender bias and power balance in the FPMT is exposed. Specifically what appears to be collusion between Lama Zopa and mainly western, white professional men as teachers. You can forget it. If anything the perpetrators will be shielded. Its not like they just found out about Dagri. They were told 10 years ago by the brave Spanish lady, Jaki. It was the same situation with Sogyal’s victims and the Dalai Lama even admitted that he knew about it many years ago.

The ex-nun understands very well that abuse and what happened to her has nothing to do with the vows of a nun in Tibetan Buddhism nor karmamudra.
What you do is called “victim blaming”. What you do is rooted in ignorance. The ex-nun is right in rejecting such actions as abuse and unethical.

It is sad to see that a good Dharma centre like FPMT that was built with the sweat of many sincere people under the guidance of Lama Yeshe had to generate like this. They refused to do the practice that their teacher assigned to them and now they are harbouring sex offender. What a disgrace!
FPMT is not what it was anymore since the passing of Lama Yeshe and when they give up Dorje Shugden practice. They trade their samaya with their founder, Lama Yeshe with fame and benefits from being on the same side with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Sad to say, they have broken their samaya severely.
The karma they have generated is so heavy that the latest incarnation of Lama Yeshe, Lama Osel has manifested signs of him leaving the Dharma. He now preferred a secular life over monastic life. If FPMT does not repair their samaya quick enough, soon Lama Osel might leave FPMT.

For those of us who have held hope that the Foundation For the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) might provide some leadership in resolving troubles of abuse within Western Tibetan Buddhist Centres, this has been a hard week. We have held hope because the FPMT’s code of ethics, signed by all teachers teaching at FPMT centres, has demonstrated a clarity about students’ needs not seen in other Tibetan Buddhist institutions.
Here is an example:
“FPMT is committed to promoting safe environments wherein the dignity of every individual is respected. Everyone participating in FPMT-related activities has the right and shall be free from harassment of any type, be it sexual harassment, intimidation, bullying, or other forms of harassment. Everyone coming into contact with the FPMT network shall be treated with dignity and respect.”
And this:
“Sexual relationships between Dharma teachers and students while a student is attending the teacher’s teachings, course or retreat are prohibited, and are strongly discouraged at all other times as long as there is a Dharma teacher-student relationship. Please see below for a policy specific to Dharma teachers. Others in positions of authority are also strongly discouraged from entering into sexual relationships in situations where there may be a real or perceived power imbalance. As well, no teacher, volunteer, staff member, or other representative of the hosting center shall make sexual advances to any participant during a teaching, course or retreat.”
This is the clear language students have been seeking from other Buddhist organizations. Sadly, however, a woman has recently claimed that the FPMT failed to honestly and appropriately address her allegations that Dagri Rinpoche, a teacher at FPMT centres, sexually assaulted her while she was a nun at Thosamling some years ago. This claim followed a recent allegation made to police in India by a woman who claimed that Dagri Rinpoche molested her while on a plane. According to The Tribune Newspaper (India), “the Gaggal police detained him before he was released on bail.” There are also claims that more women have been abused by him, though these have not been made public or verified.
In the first testimony, that given by Jakaira Perez Valdivi on Utube video, there is a disturbing description of the effort made by Dagri Rinpoche and the FPMT institution to undermine her story, effectively silencing her. She claims that Dagri Rinpoche lied to others about having apologized to her and that the FPMT labelled his actions as “compassionate massage” and not sexual at all. According to Jakaira’s story, his actions included fondling her breasts and pushing his genitals against her—not something that can be called “compassionate massage.” According to her, he apologized to her, but then lied and claimed that she apologized to him.
At best, the FPMT has failed to validate her concerns and failed to resolve a situation that has badly damaged her wellbeing and spiritual path. At worst, they are covering up a crime. At best, Dagri Rinpoche’s actions, as described by Jakaira and the recent allegation from the woman on the plane, disqualify him from ever teaching in an FPMT centre. At worst, they are criminal. Will he continued to teach at FPMT centres? Why has nothing been done to resolve the situation for Jakaira and why has he continued to teach at FPMT centres?
The FPMT say that these two incidents did not occur at an FPMT facility, project or institution and so the ethics policy does not apply. However, he has continued to teach at FPMT centres and the failure of this institution to act responsibly in the context of carefully screening their teachers and hearing the needs of survivors demonstrates a lack of fiduciary care and due diligence in my opinion. These problems are not fixed by simply finding loopholes.
And this is the big problem. In the current climate, with students from Rigpa, Shambhala and other Buddhist institutions still traumatized from disclosures of sexual abuse by their leaders, every Buddhist institution is called upon to be diligent regarding the behaviours of teachers. There should be no compromising on this, no finding loopholes or making excuses or quick fixes. It is one thing for a student to come to terms with the fact that a well-respected Dharma teacher is abusive. However, when the harm becomes institutionalized, when Tibetan Buddhist institutions fail to come forward with appropriate measures of validation, compassion and resolve, and continue to validate the integrity of that teacher, then the situation turns critical. This has happened in Rigpa, Shambhala and too many other Buddhist centres who are scrambling only now to put together flimsy codes of ethics.
The following letter from within the FPMT, from the Center Services Director of the FPMT International Office in Portland Oregon, reflects this sentiment. It appears that there is little appetite within the International Office for simply finding those loopholes in the Ethics Policy:
Dear Friends,
It has come to our attention that there are newspaper stories and social media accounts circulating stating that a lady in India has made a report to the Indian police accusing Dagri Rinpoche of molesting her on a flight in India.
As Dagri Rinpoche is currently an FPMT registered teacher, we at International Office are following this story closely and awaiting any additional updates and reports about the outcome of the accusation.
We understand that Dagri Rinpoche believes he is innocent of the accusation and is preparing a personal statement in response to the accusation.
Although the alleged event did not take place at an FPMT center, if the investigation results do determine that the accusation is correct, then we would follow the guidelines described under Administering the ETHICAL POLICY, in the ETHICS AND ETHICAL POLICY section of the Affiliates Area and it could impact Dagri Rinpoche’s inclusion on the FPMT registered teachers list, as per the FPMT Ethical Policy.
While we are awaiting any conclusions on this story, we send our prayers for all parties involved in and affected by this story.
We are sure that this will remind all of the importance of our responsibility to uphold ethical behaviour, especially by those of us who manage and teach at FPMT centers, projects and services.

Statements such as this from within the FPMT’s establishment are encouraging. Indeed, the FPMT statement on the need for centres to take strong measures in instances of abuse is clear and strong within their ethical policy, though perhaps it can be amended to account for this situation. If it had been followed, Jakaira might have received the validation she needed. Here is how they describe those measures:
Misconduct on the part of persons in positions of power or trust can undermine the integrity of the organization, causing demoralization and loss of faith. Hence, the behaviours described in the Ethical Policy below are prohibited, and a center, project, or service’s grievance procedures should be put into effect if a breach occurs.
Each individual in a position of authority, within their area of responsibility in the FPMT organization, is also required to act on any appearance or complaint of misconduct. It is crucial that such individuals identify and express concerns about conduct that may be harmful, so that procedures for dealing with problems can be implemented.
FPMT’s Ethical Policy applies to all activities, interactions, or communications including those on-line, on social media, by telephone, in person, or by any other means as long as the activity, interaction, or communication in question concerns or pertains to FPMT-related actions, duties, or responsibilities.
We also need to be clear that we should have very little reason to doubt Jakaira’s story. In fact, if we hear FPMT make such a statement as to the “compassionate massage” of a monk alone with a nun (as she alleges they said), that should be enough to cause us to question their viewpoint! And statistics show that false allegations of sexual assault are rare and that most victims of sexual assault choose not to report — because they fear not being believed and becoming re-traumatized by a brutal system. These statistics are important because until women are believed and validated, there will be no change to a very widespread culture of abuse in institutions both East and West. We are in a “MeToo” movement where the problem will simply not go away without institutional change, without acknowledgement from all concerned that there is a systemic, serious problem.
Last November, some 130 former and current students of Tibetan Buddhism signed a letter addressed to over forty lamas from all four lineages. We translated this letter into Tibetan. Attached to this letter was a translation into Tibetan of another letter, that written by eight former senior students of Sogyal Lakhar, in which they outlined his serious physical, psychological and sexual abuses over decades. We asked only one question in the letter. We simply wanted to know whether or not lamas found these behaviours acceptable—e.g. behaviours of beating and sexually abusing students, using student donations to live a lavish lifestyle etc. As of this writing, six months later, we have had only two responses.¹
We wrote that letter with the intention of receiving better clarity on how we, as long-time Dharma students, could move forward on our spiritual paths after abusive situations—and how we could insure better safety within Western Dharma Centres. We neither want to be abused on our spiritual paths nor do we not want to practice in an environment of abuse. Many of us sat silent while Sogyal Lakhar spent hours of his teaching time viciously maligning and insulting students. We are horrified that we turned our back on harm as we sat through these tirades. The letter was written sincerely, from our hearts, with no ulterior motive other than stopping harm and knowing where safety lay. To many of us, the lack of response from forty lamas is in fact a very brutal and non-compassionate response. A lack of caring.
Tahlia Newland and I also wrote a letter to HH Dalai Lama in which we told him that we had written these letters to lamas and why. We explained also that the Vajrayana had been used to justify abusive behaviors and to silence students with threats of hell if they objected. We explained that many were questioning the Vajrayana now and many needed better clarity. We asked him to please bring the matter up at the meeting scheduled for Tibetan Buddhist leaders last November. We received a response from his office two days later, asking us to forward the matter to the Kalon of Religion and Culture and to CC His Holiness. We did that. Shortly after, the meeting was postponed and we fear that now, there will be little hope of this topic being raised if the meeting is ever held. The kalon has not responded to us either.
I believe that abusive behaviors within the context of the Vajrayana make this situation particularly critical—and particularly in need of strong leadership that can provide clarity. Though some FPMT teachers are amongst those who haven’t replied to our letter, many of us have nonetheless held out a hope for this organization because of its strongly worded ethics code—and because of the responsible and thorough approach to Dharma in the FPMT educational programs, their responsible approach to the Vajrayana.
I would like to add to this my desire that FPMT seek now to sincerely and compassionately reach out with support to Jakaira Perez Valdivi and others who might have made similar claims of harm from FPMT teachers that are not known to us. Publicly, a statement from the FPMT on how they intend to address this situation and others like it would be very helpful towards insuring that a growing group of disillusioned Dharma students do not lose trust in the good intentions of the FPMT. Trust demands better transparency and this has been lacking. Most of all, I truly believe that the code of silence that has ruled within Tibetan Buddhist culture in the West needs to end if the Dharma in the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition is to thrive.

It's seems like Dagri Rinpoche has such a bad reputation and no one supposed to take action on him? Why FPMT didn't do anything to prevent such incident happen again since it had happened 10 years ago? Why a dharma centre didn't protect their people instead protecting the sex offender. I think more and more women will come forward to report the misconduct of Dagri Rinpoche. I must say these women are brave because it is not easy to talk about it as they are reminded of the bad and disgusting experience again.

All I am interested in is what is FPMT going to do? Are they going to acknowledge the victims, apologise and accord the respect to these women by suspending Dagri Rinpoche? Are they going to give justice to the suffering of these women who suffered abuse from the teacher under their institution? What are they going to do to make sure that this doesn't happen again and not just to pacify public anger and disgust at this time.

Wow! Another exposé! How shocking that these "Rinpoche" can carry out sexual crimes against so many and yet Dharamsala and all those in position to do something just sweep it under the carpet. In allowing the continual sexual molestation of others for over 10 - 20 years is blatant participation of the act itself as you are allowing these crimes to continue. These Rinpoches are Lamas who are teaching and "famous", who are supposed to be guardians of Buddha's teachings and all the disciple's path to enlightenment. Yet, these "Rinpoches" take advantage of the disciples' total trust and ignorance of proper conduct to leave them in confusion, distrust and guilt. Dagri Rinpoche is the latest to be exposed and he is such a hypocrite to be able to criticise Dorje Shugden practitioners who practice in peace when he is the one breaking his major vows. What kind of lineage teachings and initiations is he transmitting? What are the disciples receiving? Who is going to hell? One who kept their vows in Dorje Shugden practice or the one who break their vows in harming another through their sexual molestations?
This should really wake up people to who the real practitioners of Dharma are. Dorje Shugden practitioners kept their vows to their Guru in keeping their Dorje Shugden practices which made them targets of abuse, ostracism, discriminations and many businesses are strongly encouraged to ban entry to the practitioners from entry for even the basic necessities. It is shaming of the Tibetan Leaders who were supposed to care for their people.

Update Regarding Dagri Rinpoche
Dagri Rinpoche has for many years been one of the Tibetan teachers on FPMT’s Tibetan Teachers List.
The Indian police last week received a formal complaint from a woman who was on a commercial airline flight with Dagri Rinpoche in India, accusing Dagri Rinpoche of inappropriate behaviour during the flight. Furthermore, another woman recently made allegations about misconduct by Dagri Rinpoche 10 years ago, which she shared via a YouTube video.
FPMT International Office understands that best practice is to suspend a teacher from teaching while an investigation is ongoing, in order to protect students, and the teacher. The investigation into what happened on the flight is currently being conducted by the Indian police.
We have therefore temporarily suspended Dagri Rinpoche from the FPMT Tibetan Teachers List with immediate effect, pending the conclusion of the police investigation. This means that Dagri Rinpoche may not teach, or be invited to teach, in any FPMT center during this suspension. FPMT teacher suspension does not indicate an assumption of guilt.
Dagri Rinpoche sent International Office this personal statement regarding the allegations.
Regarding the allegations made on YouTube, we have reached out directly to the woman who posted the video. In 2011, His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Private Office informed us that they had received an allegation by this woman against Dagri Rinpoche. The Private Office informed us that they had investigated the allegations, and that they had resolved the matter with the woman. They informed us that Dagri Rinpoche understood the seriousness of the allegations and committed to avoid situations which could give rise to similar allegations in the future.
Therefore, we maintained Dagri Rinpoche’s listing on the FPMT Tibetan Teachers List. However, we took our responsibility to students seriously, and alerted FPMT regional and national coordinators about the matter, asking them to inform any center which had invited or was planning to invite Dagri Rinpoche, so that they could consider their invitation in light of this information. We also took the opportunity to review FPMT policies and processes to see if any further amendments were needed to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and centers.
We sent a reminder about this to the coordinators last year, as we were told that talk was circulating about Dagri Rinpoche.
We have received no complaints about Dagri Rinpoche since 2011.
Our recent decision to suspend Dagri Rinpoche is consistent with the emphasis which the FPMT organization places on ethical behavior.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s Advice to Students of Dagri Rinpoche
The following is Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s advice for students of Dagri Rinpoche.

From my understanding, in my view and according to my mind, Dagri Rinpoche is a very positive, holy being—definitely not an ordinary person.
One night a very long time ago at Tushita in Dharamsala, Dagri Rinpoche told me that he had a dream that he visited the pure land of Lama Tsongkhapa (Yiga Chozin). He was saying how unbelievably, unbelievably wonderful it was, with all the beautiful enjoyments and view, wow, wow, wow!
Then in Sera Je Monastery, when I was having dinner at his house, he told me another story. After he recited Rinjung Gyatso mantras, he led the pujas of the Hayagriva group in Sera Je. During the puja he himself was a huge Hayagriva and all the monks were very little. When he was telling me this, his way of expressing it was bringing himself down, saying that maybe he was hallucinating. These are just a few stories that I have heard. But this is definitely not an ordinary being, someone scared of death and the lower realms. That is one hundred percent certain. This is according to my personal view, according to my mind.
Therefore, I want to tell the students who have received initiations and teachings from Dagri Rinpoche that you should definitely one hundred percent rejoice, no matter what the world says, no matter if some people criticize him. Even after Buddha became enlightened, he showed the aspect of having pain in his foot when a piece of wood went through it. Buddha said that the suffering was the result of sexual misconduct with a woman in one of his past lives, a long time ago. Of course, even arhats, who haven’t achieved the five Mahayana paths, the ten Bhumis or the tantric path, don’t have pain. They are free from samsara, since they are totally free from delusions and karma, the cause of samsara. How is it possible for someone to experience pain, rebirth, old age, and death if they have totally ceased the cause of suffering? It then becomes that Buddha is not true and Buddha’s teachings are not true. It becomes like that. Numberless beings have become enlightened: yogi-pandits such as Sahara, Tilopa and Naropa, and many beings from all four sects of Tibetan Buddhism, including Padmasambhava and other Nyingma lamas, Marpa and Milarepa, the five great highly attained Sakya Lamas, Lama Tsongkhapa himself, and many others in the Gelug tradition. With this reasoning everything becomes not true.
Buddha showed the aspect of a piece of wood going into his foot and said that a long time ago, in one of his past lives, he committed sexual misconduct with a woman. He did this to show the karma to the disciples, to the sentient beings who are the objects to be subdued. So, Buddha himself showed suffering, even though he didn’t have suffering.
This also includes the present Dalai Lama. You can see that His Holiness the Dalai Lama is all that is explained by Buddha, the great yogi-pandits and Lama Tsongkhapa. You can see that his holy mind possesses all the qualities of the path. His holy mind has all the supreme qualities, all the inexpressible qualities beyond the path, that have been explained in the texts by Buddha and up to the present buddhas’, enlightened ones’, experiences, as well as being unbelievably practical and cherishing others like a mother cherishes her most beloved child. No matter whether someone is rich or poor, educated or uneducated, His Holiness sees everyone in the world as equal and gives the most practical advice. Now, even this would not be true. But here you can see this with your own eyes, so then how could you say that it’s not true. The incredible qualities of His Holiness’s gurus and so many other holy beings that you have seen would also not be true. You would then have to say that there are no holy beings. So, these mistakes would arise.
You can see for yourself that if you practice Buddhism—lamrim, for example—your mind has greater and greater peace and becomes more and more holy. How can you then say that even that doesn’t happen? It’s the same as saying that everything you did, everything you experienced, is a hallucination. Of course, this is not related to the view of true existence. The hallucination, in this case, is that nothing exists in mere name: suffering, the cause of suffering, cessation of suffering, the path. Nothing then exists: there’s no hell, no enlightenment, no karma, no samsara, no nirvana.
Then, in the sutra Meeting of the Father and Son, it says, “Buddha works for sentient beings by taking the costume of Indra, Brahmin, sometimes as mara, (but people in the world do not know this). He also shows the conduct, the costume, of a woman. Also, Buddha takes animal forms. There is no attachment but he shows attachment; there is no fear but he shows fear; there is no ignorance but he shows ignorance; there is no craziness but he shows craziness; there is no lameness but he shows being lame. In various aspects, Buddha works for sentient beings and subdues the minds of sentient beings.”
Please understand this. Even enlightened buddhas work for sentient beings like this. So we, including myself, need to see things as positive. From our minds, from our side, we have to try to see the positive side.
Otherwise, it means you don’t need to meditate, you don’t need to practice Dharma, from your side. Otherwise, why do you need to meditate? Why do you need to practice Dharma? Without needing to put effort from your side, you expect everything outside to be positive. To be able to see the Guru is numberless past, present, and future buddhas, to be able to realize that, you have to put effort from your own side.
That’s why Lama Tsongkhapa said in The Foundation of All Good Qualities:
The foundation of all good qualities is the kind and perfect, pure Guru;
Correct devotion to him is the root of the path.
By clearly seeing this and applying great e?ort,
Please bless me to rely upon him with great respect.
The verse says: “The kind, perfect guru is the basis of all good qualities and correctly following the virtuous friend is the root of the path to enlightenment. By seeing well, which means seeing the guru as numberless past, present, future buddhas, WITH MUCH EFFORT, please grant me blessings to be able to follow the guru with great devotion and respect.” So, this means from your own side, with great effort. Lama Tsongkhapa said this from his own experience.
Since we (myself, for example) don’t have that understanding, we expect that we don’t have to do anything from our side. We only expect to see the guru’s qualities, to see the guru as pure, as the essence of buddha, from outside. It doesn’t happen like this.
Even if you saw the person before as full of mistakes, after you make a Dharma connection with them, you need to practice the root of path to enlightenment: correctly following the virtuous friend. By training your mind in that, then you are able to see that is buddha, which means one who has totally ceased the gross and subtle obscurations and completed all the qualities. You then realize the root of the path to enlightenment: correctly following the virtuous friend. From there, you then actualize the graduated paths of the lower capable being, the middle capable being and then the higher capable being. Bodhichitta and then tantric realizations happen easily.
Guru Shakyamuni Buddha was enlightened eons ago, according to Mahayana, according to reality. Gelong Lekpai Garma, Buddha’s attendant, served Buddha for twenty-two years, but he always looked at Buddha as a liar. This was because one time when Buddha was on alms round, a young girl offered a handful of grain in Buddha’s begging bowl. At that time Buddha predicted that from that karma she would become enlightened as Buddha Tseme. Gelong Lekpai Garma thought that was a lie and that Buddha was just flattering her. He thought it was too much: “How is it possible for that to happen from offering one handful of grain?” So, for his whole life he saw Buddha as a liar and as an ordinary being. Buddha was a buddha, but he never saw him as a buddha. He had more faith in his Hindu guru. One time his Hindu guru was sick and Buddha advised his Hindu guru not to eat brown sugar. Gelong Lekpai Garma didn’t believe Buddha, he thought he was lying, so he offered his Hindu guru brown sugar. His Hindu guru died and was reborn as a preta; one time this preta made a sound as Buddha was walking by on a road. When Gelong Lekpai Garma died, he was reborn in the hell realms for eons. It is important to know these stories.
Thank you very much. Have no regrets. The only thing is to enjoy life, which is very short and can be ended at any time.

Many people are taking advantage of Dalai Lama to do whatever they want come up to a point of hurting people. Recently we have heard so many sexual harassment issues which committed by the people associated with Dalai Lama. The most recent one is Dagri Rinpoche who works in the Dalai Lama’s Office and is closely associated with Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) and Sera Jey Monastery, is now in police custody after being accused of assaulting a woman on a Delhi-Dharamsala flight. According to sources, this is not the first time he has done this but the previous incidents were hushed up.
Why Dalai Lama and FPMT just keep silent? What kind of Buddhist teaching that they preach which doesn't include compassion. Everyone must speak up to give pressure to them. FPMT and Tibetan leadership shows a very bad example to the world and keeping quite. How would people want to belief in them by being their action?

What Lama Zopa said in his statement is quite disappointing. He is still saying Dagri Rinpoche is a highly regarded Buddhist master and his students should rejoice because they have received higher practice or teachings from him. Lama Zopa is saying what Dagri Rinpoche it is ok to molest the students because they are molested by a Buddha.
So, Lama Zopa is also a high lama, even higher than Dagri Rinpoche, why doesn't he touch the female students or nuns' breasts in order to give them blessings? If Lama Zopa thinks it is not appropriate, why is it appropriate for Dagri Rinpoche to do that? Because Lord Buddha had sexual misconduct in his previous lives so it is ok for Dagri Rinpoche to do that too? If Buddha has to suffer from that, Dagri Rinpoche has to face the consequence also.
It is not right for FPMT to cover Dagri Rinpoche up, he harms female students and also gives a bad name to Buddhism. People come to a Dharma center for refuge but instead, they receive pain. Many women are traumatised. They thought they were the wrong one and they feel guilty of it when it is Dagri Rinpoche who has seriously violated them.

What is wrong with the people. How can they accuse these pity women who were abused by Dagri Rinpoche and suffered from mental consequences for so long to have an agenda in speaking up? What is wrong with them? How can they blame everything on Dorje Shugden when it is remotely related to it?
This is how the Tibetan government does things. They blame Dorje Shugden for whatever that went wrong and including their failure of bringing Tibetans in exile back to Tibet. It has been two decades since Dorje Shugden's practice was banned with the reason of the deity being a spirit, and he caused the Tibetan cause to fail.
Now 20 years had passed since the ban was imposed and Tibetans in exile are still in Tibetan settlements in India. What will the Tibetan government use as their next excuse now since they can't blame Dorje Shugden for it?

Nuns Push for Investigation into Molestation Allegations against Teacher Dagri Rinpoche
The prominent Tibetan Buddhist monk has been suspended from teaching over abuse allegations, and now senior nuns are calling for an independent probe into his behaviour.
After becoming aware of allegations of sexual misconduct against the prominent Tibetan Buddhist teacher Dagri Rinpoche, the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) suspended him from their list of teachers, the international Buddhist group said in a statement on their website on Tuesday. The following day, ten senior Buddhist nuns—including Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo, the founder of Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery, and Thubten Chodron, the abbess of Sravasti Abbey in Washington—sent a letter to FPMT calling for a third-party investigation into the accusations.
Dagri Rinpoche—a tulku [reincarnated master] in the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism and a touring teacher who regular visits centers in the United States, such as Sravasti Abbey, where he had been listed as a spiritual advisor—was suspended after being accused in a formal complaint of molesting a woman onboard an Air India flight on May 3. Following media reports of the charge against him, a former nun, Jakaira Perez Valdivia, posted a video on YouTube entitled “Dagri Rinpoche is indeed a serial molester,” in which she claims that Dagri Rinpoche molested her ten years ago while she was living in Dharamsala, India. Soon after, another woman, Shin Young Sun, stepped forward, writing in a Facebook post on May 13 that Dagri Rinpoche groped her breast while she was a student at Sarah College in Dharamsala between 2005 and 2009.
Dagri Rinpoche has denied any wrongdoing.
In their letter to FPMT, the senior nuns said there are even more women who have remained anonymous, “Some of us personally know other Western nuns who have reported that they were molested by Dagri Rinpoche,” they wrote. The letter continues:
We urge the FPMT to commission an independent, third-party investigation into these allegations, and to make the conclusions of this investigation public. This investigation should be conducted in such a way that plaintiffs and/or witnesses feel safe to come forward and tell their stories confidentially—and anonymously, if they so wish . . . Holding an independent investigation sends a clear message that this behavior will not be tolerated and there will be repercussions for perpetrators. This is crucial in order to ensure an environment in which students’ trust can be rebuilt.
Along with the letter, a group of practitioners and nuns have also started an online petition to urge FPMT to “find the truth.”
In a statement released on May 13, Dagri Rinpoche reasserted his innocence. In the case of the Air India flight, he said he was only steadying himself on the armrest of his accuser, who was sleeping at the time. When she woke up, she “appeared angry” and said something to him in a language he did not understand, he wrote. He was later told that she had filed a complaint to the police.
In his interaction with Perez Valdivia—whom Dagri Rinpoche characterizes as “a nun who experienced some physical and mental problems”—he wrote that he only “performed Jabtru, a water purification ritual, and Kakgo, a ritual to remove obstacles” to help with her with those issues. He adds, “After about three years, she used these rituals as a reason to accuse me of inappropriately touching her.”

Perez Valdivia responded in a statement sent to Tricycle on May 16, saying, “instead of apologising he’s blaming and discrediting the victims, the oldest method proved effective to get away with abuse.”
She added that he has spent his “entire life getting away with molesting students and devotees around the world due to the silence and complicity of some institutions and of the Tibetan system itself.”
In her social-media post, Shin Young Sun also described a culture of ignoring or silencing women whom teachers have allegedly abused, saying that those in positions of power have turned a blind eye, including the office of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. She explained that although she has personally forgiven Dagri Rinpoche, she chose to speak out in solidarity with Perez Valdivia. “I write this post for other victims. Because they . . . still experience the hardships,” she said.

FPMT head Lama Zopa Rinpoche, meanwhile, has received criticism for an open letter he sent to Dagri Rinpoche’s students. He wrote:
Dagri Rinpoche is a very positive, holy being—definitely not an ordinary person . . . Therefore, I want to tell the students who have received initiations and teachings from Dagri Rinpoche that you should definitely one hundred percent rejoice, no matter what the world says, no matter if some people criticize him. Even after Buddha became enlightened, he showed the aspect of having pain in his foot when a piece of wood went through it. Buddha said that the suffering was the result of sexual misconduct with a woman in one of his past lives, a long time ago.
In her statement, Perez Valdivia called the advice “embarrassing and outrageous” and said it “excuses the abuser from any ‘appearance’ of misconduct that he may manifest.”

Prominent Buddhist nuns issue statement calling FPMT to conduct an independent investigation after growing number of women have come out accusing FPMT teachers of sexual harassment and molestation.
According to reports from ex-FPMT members, sexual abuse is common in FPMT centres around the world.

Wow! Another exposé! How shocking that these "Rinpoche" can carry out sexual crimes against so many and yet Dharamsala and all those in position to do something just sweep it under the carpet. In allowing the continual sexual molestation of others for over 10 - 20 years is blatant participation of the act itself as you are allowing these crimes to continue. These Rinpoches are Lamas who are teaching and "famous", who are supposed to be guardians of Buddha's teachings and all the disciple's path to enlightenment. Yet, these "Rinpoches" take advantage of the disciples' total trust and ignorance of proper conduct to leave them in confusion, distrust and guilt. Dagri Rinpoche is the latest to be exposed and he is such a hypocrite to be able to criticise Dorje Shugden practitioners who practice in peace when he is the one breaking his major vows. What kind of lineage teachings and initiations is he transmitting? What are the disciples receiving? Who is going to hell? One who kept their vows in Dorje Shugden practice or the one who break their vows in harming another through their sexual molestations?
This should really wake up people to who the real practitioners of Dharma are. Dorje Shugden practitioners kept their vows to their Guru in keeping their Dorje Shugden practices which made them targets of abuse, ostracism, discriminations and many businesses are strongly encouraged to ban entry to the practitioners from entry for even the basic necessities. It is shaming of the Tibetan Leaders who were supposed to care for their people.
This is what people say "what goes around comes around". Dagri Rinpoche has been hurting innocent women including nuns for the past 10 years. But who knows, maybe he has been doing that for longer than that! He took advantage of his title 'Rinpoche' to cover up his evil intention. He told the victims that he was giving them special blessings to help them progress in their spiritual journey or heal their diseases. For a person who is supposedly learned, Dagri Rinpoche twisted Buddha's teachings to fulfill his sickening desire.
Molesting women is one of his many crimes, he also sounds like he is an alcoholic and he uses alcohol to facilitate his ill intention. Tantric masters use alcohol for higher practice, but he consumes alcohol for his desires. He is the reason why much general public has doubt in Tibetan Buddhism and lamas.
We must thank the Indian woman who reported on Dagri Rinpoche. She is not a Buddhist, she has no reason to tell lies to accuse Dagri Rinpoche. For her to make a report to the police and the police accepted her case, she must have enough evidence to prove what she said. Dagri Rinpoche can say all he wants to, but no one will really believe him. It is time for him to get the results of the actions he has committed.

It is frustrating to know that the Tibetan leadership and FPMT actually knows about his crimes a long time ago before this current incident. Why did they not take any action against him to protect the nuns and women in their organisation? They are willing to sacrifice their nuns and female disciples just to keep Dagri Rinpoche around?
They are doing it just to keep their connection with His Holiness the Dalai Lama? Since Dagri Rinpoche is working close to His Holiness, those centres who hosted Dagri Rinpoche will naturally be benefitted from that relationship. It is clear that those centers do not treat their nuns and female disciples well and all they care about is benefits for the center or themselves.
I hope the public will learn from the previous experience with Sogyal who is still not persecuted for his crime against his students. He manages to get away with it because he is close to His Holiness the Dalai Lama too. Being close to His Holiness should not be a getaway pass for them to commit crimes and not pay the price.

This cannot the as usual anymore where it involved the ordain people and serious action must be taken. FPMT and Dalai Lama need to take action.

Even if Dagri Rinpoche hinted to the Indian Police about his close relationship with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, I do not think that they will let him off the hook that easily. His Holiness is not the apple in their eyes anymore due to the deteriorating relationship between the Tibetans and Indians.
It is clear that India wanted to have a better relationship with China and they are working hard to make that a reality. However, Tibetans in India has always been a thorn in the flesh of China and India has to do something to make China feel better and one of the ways will be creating a distant themselves with the Tibetans.
By giving less attention to Tibetans, China seems to be happier that way. Hence, Indian officers are no longer seen at Tibetan functions or events. So even if Dagri Rinpoche would like to use His Holiness's name to escape persecution, he will not succeed now.

People have started questioning why the Dalai Lama endorses spiritual teachers who are sex abusers. Dagri Rinpoche now joins the ranks of Dalai Lama-endorsed sexual offenders such as Sogyal Rinpoche, Sakyong Mipham, Lama Yeshe Nyingpo, Gangten Tulku, Lama Norlha, Lama Choedak Rinpoche and Tenzin Dhonden.
Doubt in the Dalai Lama’s ‘seal of approval’ is growing and the Dalai Lama really needs to take action and speak up strongly against these Buddhist teachers who are abusing their power and position and tarnishing the Dharma with their actions. These teachers are bringing Buddhism down.
Many people will lose faith not only on Dalai Lama but Buddhism as a whole. Dalai Lama has developed the reputation of Buddhism in the world platform should continue to be consistent practicing what he preaches.

Dagri Rinpoche was accused of molesting an Indian woman on a Delhi to Gaggal flight. The incident was widely reported in the Indian media and their descriptions of what transpired strongly imply that instead of groping the woman through her clothes, Dagri Rinpoche actively tried to violate the lady and get his hands under her clothing. The Indian lady pressed charges with the police and Dagri Rinpoche was duly arrested and put in police custody.
No one seems to be surprised that Dagri Rinpoche was detained for his behaviour. The fact he was caught harassing a lady from Kinnaur, a region in India where Tibetan Buddhism is strong and people have blind faith towards Tibetan monks and lamas, only confirms the news.
What’s more, when Dagri Rinpoche was detained, he had the gall to list the Dalai Lama’s Office as his address on the police paperwork. Clearly he was trying to use his position and the Dalai Lama’s name to intimidate the police and sway them into not pressing charges. This, quite frankly, is disgusting because rather than thinking about the trauma experienced by the victim, Dagri Rinpoche’s first act was to try to evade justice and protect himself and his reputation, by drawing on his association with the Dalai Lama.
Bear in mind that Dagri Rinpoche holds a Geshe Lharam degree which is equivalent to a doctorate degree in Tibetan Buddhism, yet he is extremely disrespectful towards Tibetan Buddhism and towards women in general. In Tibetan Buddhism, many deities are female and they are revered and treasured. So Dagri Rinpoche’s actions are completely contradictory to what is taught in Buddhism and extremely shameful for a person of his status.

First thing first, never enter into a room alone with a lama, or Tulku or Rinpoche. It’s a big no-no, no. If you have to be in a room with a lama, make sure there’s a witness. Two, any time a molestation occurs, make sure you have a photo or an audio, or the best would be a video to prove your claims and also keep a diary or a journal. Write everything down with dates, timing, everything. Now, number five, make sure you go and blog about it, and then go to Youtube and talk about it, and share it on Facebook, and take the molesting lama to the media and challenge, now, this is very important, challenge him to do all of the following.
Number one, challenge him, challenge him to make a statement, a press statement, a written statement. Two, challenge him to come to YouTube and defend himself. Then challenge him to do a press conference, not just a written statement where you cannot see his face and facial expression, and body language. These are very important to get some sense of whether the person is telling the truth, when people could ask questions and find out what really happened. And then challenge him to go through a lie-detector test.
Now, these two are somewhat traditional. Nevertheless, they are very powerful in the Tibetan world. Challenge him to swear upon his root guru and other high Lamas that he respects. Challenge him to swear upon their lives that his claims are true, that he is telling the truth. For those non-Tibetans, this will freak out most of the Tibetans, including lamas, Tulkus and Rinpoches. When you challenge them to swear upon their root guru. Because their fear of hell is real, 18 realms of hell, to them is real, and you talk about Vajra Hell, it will scare the shit out of them. 99% of them will not be able to swear upon their root guru, and that can give you an idea whether the person is telling the truth or not. If he’s innocent, he shouldn’t have any problem in swearing upon his root guru. But if he’s guilty, 99% of the time he will not do it. 99% of the lamas, Tulkus, Rinpoches will not do it if they are guilty, because their fear of hell is real.
Then, challenge him to meet you at Nechung and Palden Lhamo temple in Dharamsala. It could be done anywhere else where you have a statue of Nechung and Palden Lhamo, but do it in Dharamsala. This is symbolic, this is far more powerful. Challenge him to come, and both of you will swear before Nechung, the oracle Nechung and Palden Lhamo. This will again freak out the lama, Rinpoche, Tulku, if he’s guilty because their fear of the hell is very real. What they fear is one, the belief is that as soon as you go to, go before the Nechung and oracle is claiming to be telling the truth. So whoever is guilty, whoever lies, what happens, the belief is that within a month or so, the one who is guilty, the one who is lying will throw up blood and die. This is one fear they have. Two, while they are dead, they’re afraid that they will be reborn in hell, one of the 18 hells, or Vajra Hell.
Now, what kind of signs will show if the person, the guilty person is lying is that a misfortune will strike him in the next 30 days, or sometimes 90 days, max one year. Either he could lose his limbs in an accident, or he catches some terminal disease, or he dies. Now, this fear is real, so it’s pointers. Now, when you go about it, to go about it in an ascending order, not in a descending order because that will destroy the climax, because there will be no climax at all. And so, take your time. It could be a week between each move that you take, or sometimes it could be between a couple of days between each move that you make. So make your move accordingly. Don’t throw all the 15 moves that I’m talking about on his face in a single day. Don’t do that. One at a time and build up momentum, and finally come down to Nechung and oracle, and that will scare the shit out of the lama, trust me.
Now, what do you do after that? Usually when Tibetans have this kind of problems or similar problems, they take it to Nechung and Palden Lhamo, and it gets decided right there and they do not go to the court. Now, in this case, take him to the police, hire a lawyer and challenge him in the court. I know most of the points that I raised here are pretty obvious to many of the women who go through molestation, but as an insider and someone who belongs to the inner core once, these swearing in, challenging him to swear upon his root guru, and meeting at Nechung and Palden Lhamo to decide the outcome, these are unbelievably powerful. So use them. Basically what you do at the temple is you swear, you prostrate, probably three times before the statue of Nechung and oracle, and swear that you are, both of you will swear that you’re telling the truth, and whoever lies, whoever is guilty should meet with an unfortunate incident anytime soon. So, that could be losing a limb in an accident or could be an actual death, and then you part from there. Now everything is decided by the Nechung Oracle. That’s the belief system, so exploit it, of course, for your good purpose.

This will again freak out the lama, Rinpoche, Tulku, if he’s guilty because their fear of the hell is very real. What they fear is one, the belief is that as soon as you go to, go before the Nechung and oracle is claiming to be telling the truth. So whoever is guilty, whoever lies, what happens, the belief is that within a month or so, the one who is guilty, the one who is lying will throw up blood and die. This is one fear they have. Two, while they are dead, they’re afraid that they will be reborn in hell, one of the 18 hells, or Vajra Hell.
Now, what kind of signs will show if the person, the guilty person is lying is that a misfortune will strike him in the next 30 days, or sometimes 90 days, max one year. Either he could lose his limbs in an accident, or he catches some terminal disease, or he dies. Now, this fear is real, so it’s pointers. Now, when you go about it, to go about it in an ascending order, not in a descending order because that will destroy the climax, because there will be no climax at all. And so, take your time. It could be a week between each move that you take, or sometimes it could be between a couple of days between each move that you make. So make your move accordingly. Don’t throw all the 15 moves that I’m talking about on his face in a single day. Don’t do that. One at a time and build up momentum, and finally come down to Nechung and oracle, and that will scare the shit out of the lama, trust me.
Now, what do you do after that? Usually when Tibetans have this kind of problems or similar problems, they take it to Nechung and Palden Lhamo, and it gets decided right there and they do not go to the court. Now, in this case, take him to the police, hire a lawyer and challenge him in the court. I know most of the points that I raised here are pretty obvious to many of the women who go through molestation, but as an insider and someone who belongs to the inner core once, these swearing in, challenging him to swear upon his root guru, and meeting at Nechung and Palden Lhamo to decide the outcome, these are unbelievably powerful. So use them. Basically what you do at the temple is you swear, you prostrate, probably three times before the statue of Nechung and oracle, and swear that you are, both of you will swear that you’re telling the truth, and whoever lies, whoever is guilty should meet with an unfortunate incident anytime soon. So, that could be losing a limb in an accident or could be an actual death, and then you part from there. Now everything is decided by the Nechung Oracle. That’s the belief system, so exploit it, of course, for your good purpose.

What the article says is very interesting. But why does it have to be in front of their guru or protector that they will be afraid of the consequences of their actions? They are all lamas that taught Dharma and even gives tantric initiations to their students. I'm quite sure they know about Vajra hell and the sufferings of the hell very clear.
However, they still did the same thing and showed no regret for their actions. I am sure they will lie again even if they are in front of their guru and protector since they already on the way to hell, might as well continue lying. Those lamas who did those crimes are not regretful and continue to lie in front of the authorities.
They have to be shown this is not right and be put in jail to teach them a lesson. They think they can use His Holiness's name to escape the consequences and not be charged in court. Too bad His Holiness is not as powerful as before, if not they might be able to escape imprisonment just like how Sogyal did. I hope Dagri will be given the punishment that he deserves.
