Post by: psylotripitaka on August 31, 2014, 05:49:48 AM
Only Love can bring World Peace (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agUsY2UGzYU#)

And when there is nuclear disaster, he recommends the following 2 practices in particular, so take note and gain some experience of them:

1) Wishing Love
2) Taking and Giving

What Geshe la said is so true. More nuclear bombs will only create more enemies and a lot more nuclear bombs. We will self annihilate at the rate that we kill each other. Love is the key to resolving all the current conflicts. It makes so much sense.

What Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso said is so true. "Love is the real nuclear bomb destroying the enemy". Our real enemy are our delusions which prevent us from developing loving kindness towards all beings. It is only through Dharma that we can overcome our delusions - ignorance, desire and hatred - and treat fellow human beings like brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers. If we love one another, there is no need for weapons, no need to destroy each other out of hatred and fear. As Venerable said, "other than Dharma, there is no method to solve human problems."

"Without inner peace outer peace is impossible. We all wish for world peace, but world peace will never be achieved unless we first established peace within our minds. We can send so-called "peacekeeping forces" into areas of conflict, but peace cannot be opposed from the outside with guns.Only by creating peace within our mind and helping others to do the same can we hope to achieve peace in this world." Kelsang Gyatso

Venerable Kelsang Gyatso in his teachings emphasize the importance of how to fulfill our deepest wishes for peace and how to cultivate a kind heart to help others.

Nuclear bombs and whatever mass weapon of destruction is the creation from our own self-centerness. The only way to eradicate such mindset is by means of educating everyone on love and kindness. If we give an eye for an eye it becomes a vicious cycle of destruction and death of lives. Who has the right give to judge and give the death penalty for civilians? We have become civilisation who threatens each other with killing, kidnapping and blackmailing.

It is always a delight to watch and listen to Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso's teachings.  Thank You for sharing this psylotripitaka!

There are no enemies other than our delusions!  It is not the outer enemies, it is our inner maras that we should overcome! We are lucky that we have Dharma to help us in this. When we understand the nature of our delusions, we can apply the necessary antidotes for their cessation.  For example we practise loving kindness to overcome hatred to achieve world peace.

Only loves brings world peace. So any kind of act be it from secular or spiritual leaders that cause others to divide and plant seeds to differentiate others from self and eventually cause hatred and war on each others are acts against the teachings of the Buddha and even common sense tells us it is true.
Hence, lets propagate love and love our enemies even if they caused tremendous pain to us and our community. If that can be achieved, then the world is a better place and we have the conditions for the practices for future lives and others.

I love this video by Geshe-la (I love all his videos actually, and Karmapa's too (Thaye Dorje Karmapa).  They are both the source of all attainments:).
Geshe-la makes such virtuously intelligent points; it is very stupid we keep killing each other--- humans to other humans.... it would be helpful if everyone would think about this, like the U.N. should have a 10 minute meditation lead by Geshe-la, and then we will have a lot more Buddhas and more chance at peace:).

Geshe-la elucidates his teaching with so much calmness and wisdom. If only everyone in the world can learn and practice this form of wisdom and compassion onto others, then maybe we will not have such a messed up world !

Geshe Kelsang Gyatso is a real mahasiddha. His words and tone is filled with so much compassion and love. All his books are great. Geshe-la makes so much sense in his teachings, that the wisdom contained therein is not refutable. If men keep creating war with men, it will be a never ending cycle, until everyone is wiped out and destroyed. How can one use weapons to hurt one another of the same species? Due to the 3 poisons that consumes our intellect, we act because we are controlled by our emotions and feelings.

I do not think a spirit worshipper would be preaching such teachings aligned with the teachings of Buddha Shakyamuni.

This is a mind blowing teaching! If Geshe Kelsang Gyatso is a spirit worshipper, how can he be so wise and compassionate like Buddha Saykamuni?

I know.  I also think, like if the DL is the Buddha of compassion, then why does he exibit no compassion?  Why are his arguments completely lacking in any form of cohesive logic?  I must conclude:  DL is no Buddha or would he be (several people on these forums are REALLY into pure view arguments of DL behavior) then like to me he is saying, I may be a Buddha but am not acting like one; therefore I might not speak like one.  Therefore, do not take as advise anything that comes from my mouth.

I totally agree that world peace can only be achieved through peaceful methods. Love and compassion are the keys to resolve any disputes and violence. Look that the current war in the Middle East. It shows how people have degenerated. Killing of children and the innocent in the name of God is twisted and horrific. Which God would support killing in the first place? Isn't God teaching us to be compassionate, forgiving, loving and kind to each other? Why do we use God to promote more sufferings and creating hell on Earth?

Mahasiddha Geshe Kelsang Gyatso is so true in his advise. Wishing love, giving and taking are what we need to practise. Otherwise, we will self annihilate.

I agree with what Mahasiddha Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche said. Love and compassion can help destroy our enemies and delusion and bring peace, inner and outer.
If we can achieve this than the world will be a better and peaceful place.

Geshe la sure know how to bottles an old wine into new package. So apt for our time. The universal truth that will bring world peace as stated in Dhammapada.
Yamaka Vangga (the twin verse)
Retaliation does not lead to Peace
Verse3: “ He abused me, he beat me, he defeated me, he robbed me” in those who harbor such hatred thoughts is not appease.
Verse4: “ He abused me, he beat me, he defeated me, he robbed me” in those who do not harbor such thought hatred is appease.
Anger is conquered by love
Verse5: Hatred never cease through hatred in this world; through love alone they cease. This is the eternal law.

I totally agree with Geshe Kelsang Gyatso teachings. The world will be a better place if there is no war. There will be less sufferings if people practice love and compassion instead of having anger and hatred. To receive such a beautiful teaching from Geshe Kelsang Gyatso is an inspiration and shows that Geshe Kelsang Gyatso is highly attained Mahasiddha and not a spirit worshipper.

When we have love in us, we will not even think of harming anyone or anything. We would be responsible of all our actions and thoughts and will think twice to refrain from harming others.

Even if harm was necessary, this would be done on a compassionate basis without any of the 3 poisons to it.

From Buddhism’s teachings one understands that the real source of happiness is inner peace. If our mind is peaceful, we shall be happy all the time, regardless of external conditions. How could we be able to seek world peace if we ourselves has yet to achieve the same ? Peace has to be blended together with compassion and love . Geshe Kelsang’s is a real Mahasiddha and his words carry weights and wisdom!

What Mahasiddha Geshe Kelsang Gyatso says in this teaching are gems of wisdom. "Only love can bring world peace". To have world peace, we need inner peace within ourselves. This inner peace is attained through the practice of love and compassion, patience and respect for others. This is what Dharma teaches, the use of antidotes, such as "love" and "compassion" as an antidote to "hate"; and "patience" as an antidote to "anger".Over and above this, Dharma teaches us that , in our ignorance and delusions, we "label" people as "friends", "enemies" and "strangers". These are all projections of our mind. In our cyclic existence of innumerable lifetimes in samsara, our current "enemy" would have been our best loved being before.Even in this life, sometimes, within a flash, a friend becomes an enemy.

Only when we have overcome the real enemies within, our afflictive emotions or delusions, will we gain inner peace. From inner peace, outer peace will grow. If we can have peace with our neighbours, there will be no war. World peace will be realized.

The weapons that we make and create are created out of our delusions. Delusions of greed for money or power fuel the making of these weapons. Hence, if there is peace within all minds, there would be no more delusions. These weapons would become irrelevant.

Thank you Geshela, for such a powerful teaching.

World peace is so loosely used for the last few decades by new age spiritual seekers. I often wonder if those who use this phrase has realization of it's context.

As Geshe-la says, "Only love can bring world peace".  We need to start on the personal level, by working with our own minds. We need to meditate, slow down, and notice our negative thoughts. It's not a matter of getting rid of them, that would create a war within ourself, but simply noticing, and then letting go.

We can start by paying attention, by allowing ourselves to care about the fate of our loved ones, only then can we expand to our family members, friends and enemies, our neighbors, then the fates of those on more distant corners of the globe. We can care compassionately about the world around us. With that we achieve world peace.
