Title: A spectacular painting of Shugden on Chinese Scroll
Post by: LosangKhyentse on December 16, 2011, 08:33:15 PM
I have a beautiful painting of Shugden to share. It was painted by a certain friend of mine who is very devoted to Dorje Shugden.

It was painted on Chinese scroll. I really find it extremely beautiful and thought many of you would feel blessed to see it.

The detailing is beautiful, I had not seen a painting of Dorje Shugden in this style before. I like it a lot.
Dear TK, thank you for sharing it.

thank you TK for sharing this. I like how your artist friend has interpreted Dorje Shugden's traditional iconography into chinese style. I have many chinese friends myself and they probably would prefer this style compared to a traditional Tibetan thanka.

Your friend must be really devoted to Dorje Shugden to spend his/her time and effort to make this thanka. Very inspirational to know that actually, anyone of us could have also picked up some paint and brush to show our devotion to Lord Shugden in a tangible way.

I have been thinking about it, and most of us do our prayers and mantras in front of the altar, request Dorje Shugden for this and that assistance, then go about our merry lives as we please. Not many of us (I think) actually do something more for Dorje Shugden, whether it be paintings to give to others, free distribution materials, websites (there are only a handful) or whatever.

My teacher once said that giving the gift of Dharma to others is most supreme. TK, your friend has done just that. Time for me to look at what I can give too.

Your friends done a fantastic job tk, particularly like the detailing on the robes and the way the snow lion is looking up at him. The new style also seems more portable? Anyway the idea of a Chinese scroll sounds a lot lighter than brocade.

Incredibly beautiful.

More impressive than the painting itself is to see the devotion that a practitioner would put into creating such beautiful images - creating any Buddha image is highly meritorious, as we know. (Creating 100,000 tsatsas during one's lifetime was a traditional preliminary practice in Tibet, for example). There is a lot to rejoice and feel happy in, knowing that modern practitioners today are doing the same thing.

For those of us who are not at all artistically inclined (!!!), the next best practice is to sponsor Buddha images - the point is to make these images available to as many people as possible, planting karmic imprints and connections to enlightened body, speech and mind.

If anyone does have their own art of Dorje Shugden (or any other of our lineage practices) please do share them here. It would be of such benefit to many, and of course, the corresponding merit you gain yourself is tremendous!

Thanks again for the share!

The painting is indeed very beautiful. The detailing and expressions are impeccable and the iconography is faultless. How meritorious indeed to have created such a wonderful masterpiece.

I like what Thor mentioned here:
Quote

Makes one think beyond our selfish wants and needs. It is true that everyone, regardless of their religion or faith often pray for what they want and need and only when the situation arises that they need help. Very few of us actually do the opposite in giving before asking. Hence it is always good to instill the act of giving and making offerings.

PA, indeed it is important that we create some kind of "compulsive generosity", and that is without hidden motive of awaiting something back, or without waiting to be asked.
This is important because, the Buddha's teachings explain that we will take that "habit" with us on our next rebirth.

So it is likely that the person who painted this image of Dorje Shugden will feel it spontaneous and effortless to do it again this life and next lives.

Superb innovation! It is wonderful that this style of artwork is created for Dorje Shugden, creating a cause for our Lord's practice to flourish in China in the near future :) Thank you (tk's friend) for this beautiful masterpiece; thank you, tk, for sharing.

Thor and Beggar are so right about taking action to do something tangible in return for the blessings Dorje Shugden has bestowed upon us. Dharma is about benefiting others, like what tk's friend has done here (painting a beautiful image of Dorje Shugden that will benefit those who have the luck to lay eyes on Him). We should look at this post as a reminder that we can...and must do something too. If we cannot paint, we can support those who can. If painting is not "our thing", we can seek other forms and methods. There is always something we can do in contribution to having the practice of our Lord will flourish and bless millions of mindstreams.

Perhaps, the immediate and easy thing we can actually do right now is share this post with friends so that they get to enjoy a beautiful artpiece as well as receive the blessings of a Buddha.

Wow! This painting is so beautiful. The details are amazing. I think that the fabric it was painted on was a very good fabric. Your friend must really like Dorje Shugden and he shows so much devotion. Such devotion is amazing, it would be such a great honor to paint a picture of Dorje Shugden but I have horrible painting skills :(

I hope the artist who made this masterpiece will benefit from making such a beautiful work of art.

Thank you so much for sharing it TK :)

Oh wow this painting of Dorje Shugden is so wrathful! I personally prefer the peaceful form of Dorje Shugden but this is nice as well. In fact, I am drawn to all different styles of Dorje Shugden.

It is wonderful how Dorje Shugden, in fact all Buddhas can manifest in different forms to suit different practitioners and our different needs.

Actually all Buddhas are the same. But we personally cannot focus hence the need of different forms of Buddhas to help us accomplish our ultimate goal, Enlightenment. For example, if there is only one Buddha form, when we pray, one minute we will pray for wealth, another minute we will pray for health and another minute we will pray for a different wish. We cannot focus on just one prayer.

But with different forms of Buddhas, people can be more focused. And more likely we will be more sincere.

For example, Dorje Shugden has 4 other different emanations aside from his main form. Each has their specific functions. In general, Shize for healing purposes, Gyenze for wealth, Wangze for overcoming obstacles and Trakze for overcoming black magic.

All Buddhas serves the same purpose. That is to lead us to enlightenment. Many great masters have gain enlightenment by relying on only one Buddha. In a teaching by a Great Master, I was told it is okay to only rely on one Buddha.

My 2 cents worth. =)

This is a very beautiful painting and looks very wrathful. Thank you for sharing this personal work of art as it is one of a kind.

With more and more new ideas to depict our king, it could get more people interested in DS. THis could be a way to attract art lovers into the practice. Maybe a new age painting of DS will come by very soon.  :)

Yes, this is indeed a lovely painting and as it is done in a Chinese style , (as has been pointed out), it is surely an image of Dorje Shugden that will appeal to the Chinese. What a way to go forward, to distribute innumerable copies of this image in China and spread Dorje Shugden there!

Thank you for sharing this painting with us, TK. Your friend has expressed his great devotion to The Protector in a way that only an artist like him can express.

The scroll is truly magnificent.  That's show how TK's friend has taken on his own initiative, creativity and his love for DS to produce such rare painting for all to see....Truly admirable and trait that one should learn from and ask oneself what have one done to bring this blessing to others and stop focusing on selfish mind.  If we cannot draw or paint, we can do our part through other means example we can print out the ever ready picture and distribute to others. Even to reproduce this beautiful DS painting by TK's friend....wow!  Why not?

I like the flame behind Dorje Shugden, it's very unique from the typical painting...and the face is more fierce than the ordinary one.

But no matter how the details changes, the qualities of Dorje Shudgen are always there.

Thanks TK for sharing this! And rejoice for your friend who did it, very well done!

As long as benefitting people, Dorje Shugden will appear in any way and any form.

As what I see here, by just painting alone, it will be able to bring dorje shugden to different level of people with different painting style, even people who doesn’t know him will be having this painting as a beautiful piece of art, with this, another person will be having an imprint of Dorje Shugden.

Creating Buddha images and beautified it so that people will be attracted to it and from there to develop a connection with the Buddha. The merits we collected from this meritorious work, it will help us to gain a healthy and great body so that we can enhance further in our spiritual practice.

How wonderful for someone who created this painting, indeed, it is very beautiful and of course, I love it very much too. Hehe…

Very special and creative indeed.  Anything comes from the heart is beautiful, no?  I am sure this friend of yours are very devoted to Dorje Shugden, to spend time and effort in producing such master piece.  Just like Shugden himself, he can manifests in anyways.  Just like what the others already mentioned, so many things we can do to promote Shugden based on the very reason most of us have been benefited from the precious protector.

It is wonderful rejoicing to see people making an effort to spread shugden to help lift the ban.

Thanks for sharing this. Personally, for me, this image is spectacular because it came from the heart. I love it that it is in a Chinese style. It reminds me of all the Christian artwork in Europe, where Christ is depicted as being European - with red hair and fair skin, when in all actuality, he was Middle-Eastern! Dorje Shugden still looks like Dorje Shugden here although there is a Chinese/Oriental slant to it. I think the Chinese scroll effect makes the painting very unusual and would appeal to a lot of Chinese people - in China and elsewhere. Bravo to your friend who painted it and who is making so many people happy by looking at it! Spectacular indeed.

How beautiful to behold the King in the form of a painting. I do think this style would appeal to many people but I still personally prefer statues. The larger the statue, the better. If I had unlimited funds, I would fund the construction of temples all over the world, each with a 2-storey high statue of Dorje Shugden and perhaps smaller ones of his emanations and other Buddhas and lineage Lamas. I would dedicate these temples to the long life of my Lama, my parents and the propagation of the Gaden/Dorje Shugden tradition.

Thank you TK for sharing.

What strikes me most when I see this tangkha is not only the great depiction of DS and the details of the artwork, but the fact that it is mounted on a Chinese scroll. I find that extremely unique, it will be so appealing to the Chinese market.

The person who painted this have so much devotion to DS and I  truely rejoice for him!

Thank you, TK, for sharing this painting with us. It is indeed beautiful. I rejoice for his creativity, skills and devotion in producing such magnificent artwork. Wow, if these paintings can be reproduced and distributed to China which I think will appeal to the Chinese market, it will create the cause for Dorje Shugden to spread in China!

It is such a blessing to see these beautiful paintings of Dorje Shugden. Thanks again for the sharing.
