I find this most interesting and unconventional. It would be interesting to see a female incarnation of the Dalai Lama. I wonder if she would be propagating Dorje Shugden or not? Perhaps, she would do just that and work alongside Tenzin Palmo and other great nuns to revive the Bhikshuni tradition.

Dalai Lama: Women Better Leaders Because Of Potential For Compassion; Next Dalai Lama May Be Female
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/14/dalai-lama-women_n_3440583.html?utm_hp_ref=buddhism (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/14/dalai-lama-women_n_3440583.html?utm_hp_ref=buddhism)
The Dalai Lama weighed in on the debate around women leadership and came out firmly on the side of the female.
Talking to reporters during a visit to Australia, the Buddhist leader was asked to weigh in on gender during a race for Prime Minister that has included charges of sexism.
Speaking generally, the Dalai Lama suggested that the crisis of suffering and inequality in the world requires a compassionate approach to leadership:
"In that respect, biologically, females have more potential... Females have more sensitivity about others' wellbeing. In my own case, my father, very short temper. On a few occasions I also got some beatings. But my mother was so wonderfully compassionate."
The exiled Tibeten Buddhist leader then applied the same logic to his eventual successor; reaffirming that a female Dalai Lama is possible.
"If the circumstances are such that a female Dalai Lama is more useful, then automatically a female Dalai Lama will come."
-
I believe that there is a high possibility that the Dalai Lama may come back as a female. Since in these times, a female incarnation is needed, I think that the Dalai Lama will come back in the female form to help and benefit all sentient beings.
I strongly believe in this because as high lamas, I believe that they would be able to control their birth, and death. In that case, they would also be able to control what they would reincarnate as and the gender of that particular being. This is so that all sentient beings would be able to receive and accept the Dharma faster, thus, would be able to break free from the sufferings that they are in.
-
I would be very happy to see a female Dalai Lama. All these while sangha community are dominant by male, it would be great to see female sangha members joining in. I hope it would also help to change the perceived gender inequality in Buddhism and have more nuns and support more on women and women rights.
Recently, Buddhist nuns just celebrating a landmark victory, i.e. for the first time in the history of Tibetan Buddhism, 27 nuns took Geshe examination, an equivalent of Buddhism Ph.D degress at Jamyang Choling Nunnery near Daramsala. (http://www.dorjeshugden.com/forum/index.php?topic=3523.0 (http://www.dorjeshugden.com/forum/index.php?topic=3523.0))
Just like HH Dalai Lama said “If the circumstances are such that a female Dalai Lama is more useful, then automatically a female Dalai Lama will come.” I rejoice and hope that this will bring Buddhism to more people!
-
Wow! We are now coming across this topic again. I have read His Holiness mentioned of the possibility of a female Dalai Lama months ago. Indeed enlightened beings have the abilities to foresee the best ways to benefit all sentient beings. Just as the Bodhisattva Guan Yin who is associated with compassion appears to her devotes as a female, it can also be very apt for the Dalai Lama to come back as a female. Male or female, I would continue to respect the Dalai Lama for the dharma and values that he represent.
-
There we go again on anything female. Obsession with female.
If the circumstances are such that a female Dalai Lama is more useful, then automatically a female Dalai Lama will come.
What kind of circumstances? Equality. Respect. Woman are not at a disadvantage. Female has always at a disadvantage in terms of physical strength. The male always has the option of resorting to strength when he wants to achieve what he wants.

Well I think the Dalai Lama is right (!!!) that a female Dalai Lama would appear automatically if it helped all living beings. Or a female Karmapa etc. However, since the Dalai Lama has been teaching in reverse a lot this life, because I think honestly that he is trying to decoy China, he points at the best Dharma Protector of the aeon and says--- oh that's not a Buddha. Then he points at some guy China likes for Karmapa--- decoying China on both counts--- so a female Dalai Lama? Decoyed again? I don't know.

It is indeed that for women it is considered as a disadvantage. Nuns have more vows to take when compared with the number of vows that monks have to take. Just think of it from another point. The monks are able to take Geshe since a long time ago, but for the nuns? It is only recently that nuns are able to go for Geshe examinations (http://www.dorjeshugden.com/forum/index.php?topic=3523.0 (http://www.dorjeshugden.com/forum/index.php?topic=3523.0)). Through this example, it already clearly shows that women do stand at a disadvantage in many situations.

Regardless of the gender, if the Dalai Lama thinks that it is for the best that He reincarnates in a female form, then He will. For Dalai Lama is one with Chenrizig and I believe all Enlightened Beings will have no issues to reincarnate in whatever form as long as it is for the best interest of all sentient beings. There can be many reasons behind this as to why the Dalai Lama would reincarnate back as a female, just like the decision the Dalai Lama made to 'ban' the practice of Dorje Shugden and come up with such a 'prank' in saying if one practices the practice of Dorje Shugden, it will make the Dalai Lama's life shorter.
-
The saying that the practice of Dorje Shugden would shorten Dalai Lama's life is just false and untrue. How would it be possible that the worshipping of another enlightened being would cause the harm of someone?
I believe that there is still the ban on going because the Dalai Lama has greater plans for both the practice of Dorje Shugden, and the Gelug practices. It is because of the ban that allowed almost everyone in the Gelug lineage to know what is going on and the measures that each side of the party are taking. Although, we may not know what is the true reason why the Dalai Lama has chosen to do it in a way that is agreeable to many. But, if it was not for all these protests, would Gelug and Dorje Shugden be as well known today? The answer would be no.
-
If we believe that HH the Dalai Lama is Chenrezig in nature, then it only is logical that we believe that ALL his actions are to benefit. He cannot have enlightened activity in one thing he does and be unenlightened in another. Therefore, this includes the ban on Dorje Shugden, as well as the possible incarnation in future as female. Whatever the Dalai Lama decides to manifest, we have to trust that it is with the sole purpose of benefiting others.
Of course there are those who do not believe the Dalai Lama is enlightened and that he is merely a human being, in which case there will be doubt however he manifests. I prefer to think of him as an enlightened being. What about you?
-
I would definitely believe that the Dalai Lama is Chenrezig, hence an enlightened being. I believe that whatever that he is doing would be for the greater good of all of us, benefitting all sentient beings.
Just think of it this way, if the ban on Dorje Shugden is not for a greater cause, why would the Dalai Lama not ban Dorje Shugden practices in his earlier incarnations? Instead, the 5th to 13th Dalai Lama worships Dorje Shugden. That would be contradicting to whatever that he is saying now. Hence, I would say that the Dalai Lama has manifested all these for a greater cause.
-
Emanating in a powerful women form is truly exciting things to come, and Chenrezig will know what benefits sentient beings the most. If His Holiness do take on a holy Mother tara form to pacify and heal the world, most likely he will be working more on women empowement and issues plaguing women these days.
In our time such thing like this are still happening like child brides
http://edition.cnn.com/2013/07/30/world/yemen-child-marriage/index.html (http://edition.cnn.com/2013/07/30/world/yemen-child-marriage/index.html)
There is a lot of work cut out for the future incarnation of Dalai Lama. Gone will be the Dorje Shugden ban by this time, who knows the new Dalai Lama could be spreading Dorje Shugden to those who are weak and downtrodden in his next incarnation. Dorje Shugden rescues all especially those who are disadvantaged.
-

You brought up a good point up. Indeed there is no limit to what form an enlightened being could reincarnate or emanate as. Therefore if the female form can bring more benefits, why not?
China is no different from US or any other country. It is lead by a man. The head of a country doesn't have to be a man. Perhaps woman coming into power in China is the best solution?
-
If the next Dalai Lama is a female, it is breaking from tradition. We have female prime ministers before why not a female Dalai Lama? If I am still alive to see a female Dalai Lama, it would be a great welcome. It would mean that the world needs feminine energy more at the time when the Dalai Lama incarnates as female. Great beings always manisfest at its best to bring maximum benefits to others.
-
I am just wondering if His Holiness the Dalai Lama is preparing for his next incarnation to return as a female by putting in place the geshema program for the nuns in the nunnery. In this way Her Holiness the Dalai Lama will in future still undergo the regime training similar to a monastic institution. Then again he might also wish to change the gender of Her Holiness's tutors. I am just wondering if Ling Rinpoche and Trijang Rinpoche will reincarnate in their next incarnations as female to become Her Holiness's tutors for that streak of tradition in gender to remain.
-
Whatever HH Dalai Lama plans, I'm sure it's for the benefit of others. And as history has shown, such plans are beyond the comprehension of "normal people" until they are all in place and executed. Maybe not even then.
In any case, I would welcome a female Dalai Lama and I hope to be around to rejoice that!

'Female Dalai Lama Must Be Very, Very Attractive'
Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama today said it was for Tibetan people to decide whether the institution of the Dalai Lama will remain and whether a female will ascend to the post or not.
"The question of the next Dalai Lama will arise after my death and if the Tibetan people feel there is no need to keep the tradition any more, then it can be done away with and there is nothing unusual about that," he said after an interfaith conclave on Peace and Religious Harmony organised on the first day of his two-day visit here.
The spiritual leader said that "the fact the very institution should continue or not depends on the Tibetan people and if the majority feels at any time that it is not relevant, it will go".
Asked whether there was a possibility of a female Dalai Lama in the future, the spiritual leader said, "Oh yes, certainly! If circumstances are such that a majority feel there is need for a female Dalai Lama, then there is no problem with that."
On a lighter note, he said, "The female Dalai Lama must be very, very attractive. Then more and more people will come to listen to her."
The spiritual leader said that he was against the selection of the Dalai Lama in the traditional way and in the future no Dalai Lama would have political authority.
"I had appealed and suggested to my fellow Tibetans that they should choose and elect their political leader and, in 2011 I handed over my political authority, completely retiring from politics," he said.
"In future, the Dalai Lama will not be involved in politics but will remain the temporal and spiritual guide," he added.

This will be very interesting if Dalai Lama future recarnation in female form. Female getting more and more important position in current society. I believe one day female could be more superior compare to man. So if H H Dalai Lama decided to come back for sure is to benefit others. His holiness will come back in a form to ensure he can easily benefit others. However is it, the most important thing is H H must come back to continue turn the wheel of dharma. The final wish is all of us will come again and able to meet the dharma. This will be wonderful. :)
-
This is a very interesting idea as this would remove all the bad things people claim about women. How they are incapable to achieve enlightenment etc. The future is with women as women are more capable of compassion and normally work harder than men, especially in this degenerate age.
-
Buddhism in my opinion is a religion that move with time. It doesn't mean the teachings are compromise but the aspect of traditions and rules that has been inevitably imposed by human into any religion is adaptable.
As the spiritual energy of the world seems to be moving towards the feminine energy, I would not be surprised if The Dalai Lama take rebirth as a female. It's only befitting. The purpose of these reincarnation is after to benefit as many sentient beings and is not for the purpose of carrying on traditions or rules.
-
It is interesting to note that the Dalai Lama leaves the decision of his return to the people of Tibet and they may also decide the gender in which he incarnates. Democracy apparently even exists in the selection of Buddhas. Perhaps this is compassion in action just as the DL's ban of the practice of Shugden.
Should the tradition of Dalai Lama no longer be needed by the world, (I would believe it should extend beyond Tibet as the infusion of Dharma is borderless) then this role will ideally dissolve and the new form should arise.
I am making a wild guess but the dissolution of the Dalai Lam could very well set the foundation for the rise of the great protector, Dorje Shugden.
-
"If the circumstances are such that a female Dalai Lama is more useful, then automatically a female Dalai Lama will come."
That would be interesting to see a female for Dalai Lama... perhaps she would have better sense as well to realise creating a ban on other's religious belief and tearing your own people a part is wrong and would reverse the wrong doings her previous life as the 14th Dalai Lama.
But then again the Dalai Lama has also said there may not be any more Dalai Lama?
I am making a wild guess but the dissolution of the Dalai Lam could very well set the foundation for the rise of the great protector, Dorje Shugden.
Perhaps your guess may be right Manisha... but who really knows what these "enlightened minds" are up to and what they deem fit. I would also assume that without a Dalai Lama, maybe a the purity of Je Tsongkhapa's lineage can be restored and our great protector Dorje Shugden will be at the forefront in making this possible together with our great current incarnations of Pabongkha and Trijang Rinpoche. This will be a great time for Gelug tradition to rise again.
-
The Dalai Lama has graced our planet for so many lifetimes, and if he feels it is beneficial to be a female then I say why not. Perhaps the future will have much much more women in the future and what better a role model than Dalai Lama for the women. Realised beings can benefit sentient beings no matter what they do and where they are.
The Dalai Lama had 14 lifetimes and in this life he put Buddhism to where it is now on a level and was instrumental in putting Dorje Shugden on a world stage so I think he has done tremendous in this life already. So the dalai lama's future form will once again benefit the world once again.

Icy - where does the story that you quoted come from re 'Female Dalai Lama Must Be Very, Very Attractive'.
I find it interesting that an attractive woman will be a good Dalai Lama. Although i wonder if being a very attractive woman may actually detract from her holy mission? Though spiritually strong women are usually attractive. After all, the highest female deities like Tara and Vajrayogini are portrayed as beautiful women too.
Being a woman is considered negative karma so for the Dalai Lama to be reborn as a woman will be for her to break many conventions and glass ceilings so.... that will be interesting to watch. Saying that, it is not likely to happen for awhile as the Dalai Lama is very healthy (so much for Dorje Shugden shortening his life), and I don't even know if i will live to see the Dalai Lama's incarnation mature!

If H.H. the Dalai Lama decides to reincarnate as a female, it would be for the benefit of mankind. After all Chenrezig is already worshipped in female form as Guan Yin in China, Japan, Vietnam, Korea etc. During the many lifetimes of the Dalai Lama, we have seen Buddhism spread and consolidated in Tibet, Mongolia and now we see it being diffused to different parts of the world. And certainly, a beautiful female Dalai Lama would attract a lot of worshippers. I think this is skillful means to bring people to the Dharma.
-
Compassionate Chenrezig has always emanated in the forms that would benefit. As Songzen Gampo, he was the first ruler of Tibet, responsible for the unification of Tibet into a stable country. Once that was done, he went about to create the conditions that would be favourable for Buddhism to be established in Tibet. He had ta language formulated for Tibet. He sent for translators to bring Buddhism fro India to Tibet.
Fast forward to the present, Chenrezig , manifesting in the form of HH Dalai Lama, has imposed a ban on the practice of Shugden. As Chenrezig, there must be a compassionate motivation behind the ban. It is to be hoped the ban will be irrelevant soon and will be lifted soon.
Now, the Dalai Lama is talking about the possibility of a female Dalai Lama after him. Chenrezig must know why.
-
It would be great to see the next Dalai Lama is a female. Why not? All men and women are equal.
Or maybe the present Dalai Lama are sure of himself reincarnation as a female hence the reaffirmation.
Female are more compassionate, maybe there is a possibility of lifting the ban for Dorje Shugden soon?
-
Female are more compassionate
Not necessarily. Take the examples of Margareth Thatcher and Golda Meir, known for their obnoxious racism and ruthless crimes against humanity. Many evil beings are female, and a female ”dalai” similar in perversion to the current evil dalai would not be any better.
-
Female generally are more loving and gentle. I believe whether female is more compassion or not, it is not the main reason. If HH Dalai Lama is to manifest as female in his next rebirth, it is because in that form, it would be better to benefit others and reaching out to more people in that form and at that conditions where she is born.
I believe that HH Dalai Lama is a Chenrezig and imposed the ban for a bigger reason that Dharma will spread to area such as China and the West. However, the CTA has been carried out the instruction literally and causing a lot of harm to the Shugden practitioners. I do hope they will realize that soon. Let’s create the awareness and work towards getting the ban be lifted soonest!
-
Female generally are more loving and gentle.
Do not allow yourself to be duped by generalizations. Females can be as brutal, insensitive, and ruthless as males. When they are evil, they can arguably be more evil even than males.
Queen Elizabeth I of England is known for having thousands of Catholics killed in England and Ireland, and for her involvement in the profitable businesses of slave trade and piracy; queen Mary I of England and Ireland is know as ”Bloody Mary” for a reason, having burnt for instance 300 Protestants at the stakes; Golda Meir ruled a racist genocidal state; the support queen Elizabeth II of England gives to the most brutal dictatorships in the world, such as Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and Israel, goes beyond any limits; Margaret Thatcher was an avid supporter of bloody dictators such as Pinochet, of death squads in Ireland, and so forth.
I believe whether female is more compassion or not, it is not the main reason. If HH Dalai Lama is to manifest as female in his next rebirth, it is because in that form, it would be better to benefit others and reaching out to more people in that form and at that conditions where she is born.
The evil dalai, just like an evil being, may undergo his rebirth in the lower realms of samsara as a male, as a female, or even as a hermaphrodite, according to his own uncontrolled karmic compulsions.
By the way, considering that the regent Reting, the evil dalai's first tutor, was known for his sexual deviations, and the cozy feelings the evil dalai nurtures and always makes a point to express for him, it is not inconceivable that behind the medieval witch hunt undertaken by the psychopath there is some serious sexual trauma and deviation. Indeed, behind every psychopath there is a sexual trauma and deviation.
I believe that HH Dalai Lama is a Chenrezig and imposed the ban for a bigger reason that Dharma will spread to area such as China and the West.
There is no ”bigger reason” for the actions of a psychopath than his own character deviations, often resultant from early childhood, unresolved sexual traumas.
However, the CTA has been carried out the instruction literally and causing a lot of harm to the Shugden practitioners.
This attempt at covering the evil psychopath, shifting the blame for his crimes to the ”CTA”, shows some degree of accomplicity and identification with the criminal and his mindset. For a ”bigger reason” even the most perverse crimes are justified, legitimized, and even sanctified.
Actually, evil leaders, such as the psychopath known as ”dalai”, would never enjoy so much power, if there were not so many people identifying with, and thus supporting, such leaders and their psychopathies.
I do hope they will realize that soon. Let’s create the awareness and work towards getting the ban be lifted soonest!
Actually, even before any ban is lifted, one has to lift one's own blind support for psychopaths.
-
If the Dalai Lama was to reincarnate back as a female, to suit the condition required then - his teachers and tutors would likely be reborn as female, like him logically to continue the lieneage.
A remark made by some sangha friends recently observed there are 80% to 90% of buddhist centers devotees tend to be female and they are more enthusiastic and receptive compared to the male counterparts.
Interesting observation indeed.
-
Actually frankly speaking, I really do not understand why and how gender matters. As long as their motivations are the same, and that their methods are the same, Male or not, people will be inspired :)I hate it when people try too hard to become translators, they just dump everything they ''think'' they know and just left without saying anything.
