I was reading bits of the chronology from The Shugden Society Website and came across this entry that broke my heart and offer a glimmer of the enormous dilemma Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche faces. We are indeed so fortunate to be able to practice Dorje Shugden freely! Tulkus like him have to shoulder huge responsibilities beyond our fathoming - maintain the lineage of his predecessors, Dorje Shugden and yet still maintain a spiritual relationship with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
August 1998
Choktul Rinpoche, then lived in in western Europe and asked for audience each time, when H.H. Dalai Lama visited Europe. Choktul Rinpoche requested His Holiness' unconditioned, compassionate acceptance to allow him to continue his relation to Dorje Shugden, who has been closely linked with the last three predecessors of the line of Kyabje Trijang Rinpoches. This has been repeatedly refused.
In their last meeting in Europe, in Graz, Austria, in 2003, H.H. Dalai Lama stated his Final Judgement: "If you give up this deity, myself and all Tibetan people will appreciate it very much and our protector Nechung will take care of you and make you more successful and famous than ever. If you do not give up this deity, then your monastic career, like receiving the full monk's ordination and taking Geshe examinations will not be possible. So I leave it to your judgement." Then he concluded the conversation with the English words: "YES or NO?" Choktul Rinpoche, in great disappointment, neither wanting to give up the tradition of his own predecessors, nor wanting to stick out as opponent to His Holiness, chose to change his life-style totally and now lives freely, concentrated in his own Dharma-studies and practices in the USA.

Thanks for sharing, Big Uncle.
Of interest also is the para before what Big Uncle posted from http://www.shugdensociety.info/historyEvents1998EN.html:
The Secret Society of External and Internal Enemy Eliminators makes its death threats against the two young incarnations of Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche (13), Tutor of H.H. the Dalai Lama, and Song Rinpoche (11). Trijang Choktul Rinpoche was forced to stop his traditional studies and leave India.
Sad to read of these threats to these attained beings.

That is correct, The current Trijang Rinpoche while residing in Gaden received death threats due to the ban on Dorje Shugden implemented by Dalai Lama. Monk guards were deployed 24 hours a day in Gaden Trijang Ladrang the residence of Trijang Rinpoche.
Then there were some violent clashes as the lay Tibetans were incited within the grounds of Gaden Monastery by the Tibetan Govt representatives. It was decided it is safer for Trijang Rinpoche to leave. He departed to Switzerland and to the protective care of His Eminence Gonsar Rinpoche. Gonsar Rinpoche was instrumental for the protection and welfare of the current Trijang Rinpoche for many years.

most ironic, i think, is that Trijang Rinpoche's predecessor wrote most extensively and clearly about this practice and this is the lineage upheld by almost all DS practitioners throughout the world now. The lamas really take on so much for our sakes and 'suffer' so many obstacles just so we can have the freedom to practice.
Seems fitting that I have just chanced upon this from Music Delighting. His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche really writes with so much clarity on this subject. Perhaps this is the very reason why he manifests to be in this "dilemma" - a lesson for all of us to see how we can handle even the most seemingly dead-ended situations with compassion, clarity and most important of all, by never giving up.
So much to discuss with this extract below... so I open the floor!
##################
Some, who have fallen under the influence of the demon of the partisanship, think and say that this supreme Deity, the great emanated Dharmapala, is no different than an ordinary gyalpo or tsen spirit who has an inferior form as a result of being a monk or lay person who died with bad karma. Leave aside relying upon him as a Protector, they even deride others who do so. There are some, indeed, who echo such claims knowing nothing about it.
Yet all this talk is nothing but babbling speculation. Why? Because this great guardian of the teachings is well known to be the precious supreme emanation from Drepung Monastery’s upper house, Dragpa Gyaltsen, arising in a wrathful aspect. The proof is unmistaken. Tulku Dragpa Gyaltsen, as is taught in the lineage, was the final birth in a reincarnation lineage that included the Mahasiddha Birwapa, the great Kashmiri Pandit Shakya Shri, the omniscient Buton, Duldzin Dragpa Gyaltsen, Panchen Sonam Drakpa, and so forth; this is proven by valid scriptural quotation and reasoning.
"These great beings, from a definitive point of view, were already fully enlightened, and even to common appearances, every one of them was a holy being that attained high states of realization. What worse karma could there be than denying this and asserting that he was born in the preta (spirit) realm?"
Therefore, for holy beings it is not at all far-fetched that they might show themselves in a wrathful form out of the power of compassion and prayer for the sake of a special purpose, and it should be recognized that they are emanations of Buddha’s inconceivable secret qualities. But for them to take birth as a sky-wandering preta through the force of negative throwing karma like an ordinary preta would be utterly impossible.
To say it were possible would be to deny the validity of the natural law of cause and effect. Why? From the definitive point of view those holy beings are fully enlightened. Moreover, even from the common point of view, they attained high states of realization in reliance upon guarding their moral disciplines as they would their eyes, from youth onwards throughout their lives.
To say that a causal factor of pure ethical discipline could result in rebirth in a lower realm of existence would be to assert that actions performed could be wasted; that one could experience the results of actions not performed by oneself; and that such scriptural statements as 'From generosity, wealth, from ethics, happiness' are invalid and so forth. As a consequence, one would be turning ones back on Buddha’s teachings as a whole.
Furthermore, from the definitive point of view, that these holy beings were already fully enlightened innumerable ages ago, is clear if one examines the accounts of their lives, and if one were to say that a fully enlightened being could take birth as an ordinary gyalpo or tsen spirit, then one would be asserting that degeneration is possible from the state of full Enlightenment or that someone could be both fully enlightened and an ordinary preta at the same time!
Or else, one would have to say that the accounts of those great beings lives are worthless. A mountain of absurd consequences, previously non-existent distorted ideas, would have to be accepted.

Indeed it was a tough decision for Choktrul Trijang Rinpoche. How does one choose between allegiance to one's Guru and the practices he gives us or allegiance to our "king". It like asking us to choose between our father and mother.
Trijang Rinpoche steadfast stand on his allegiance to his Guru and his practices amid immense political pressure is indeed admirable. Highly attained masters like Trijang Rinpoche will always put spiritual importance above all and their conviction will always be unshakeable because they are attained. How many people could have withstand such pressure? How many people would have been disloyal and taken the easy way out?
This is in fact evidence that Choktrul Trijang Rinpoche is no ordinary being.

his is indeed a very heart breaking post to read.
I can't imagine how difficult and heavy hearted Choktrul Trijang Rinpoche's dilemma was/is. To the point that he had to change his whole lifestyle so that he can continue with the practice of Dorje Shugden. This shows me how committed the young Trijang Rinpoche is and how far he is willing to shoulder this responsibility and commitment, despite the various death threats, accusations and adversities. This is how important and valuable Dorje Shugden is to Choktrul Trijang Rinpoche.
For me, the following words sums up the emotions of this most unfortunate situation. Although it is about the monks in Shartse but I feel it reflects how every Shugdenpa feels.
February 7, 2008
In the assembly hall of Shartse monastery, the disciplinarian with tears in his eyes announced: “Now Dhokhang Khamtsen will be separated from Shartse monastery.” Many monks burst into tears.

It is very sad to hear such news.
In light of the suffering that great beings like Choktul Rinpoche endures for the benefit of others, we must do all that is within our power to make the best of the situation.
The fact that we are on this forum, we have been blessed by our Great Protector, Dorje Shugden. Therefore, what we can do to "repay" Chokrul Rinpoche and all other Shugdenpas who have directly suffered so that Dorje Shugden's practice can reach us is to practice sincerely and dillgently as well as continue to pass on this practice to as many other people as possible.
By spreading the practice of Dorje Shugden, who is said to be the perfect Protector during these degenerate time where distractions are many, we are making the best offering: to benefit others and protect the precious doctrine of Lama Tsongkapa.

There is so much evidence that Trijang Rinpoche is no ordinary being. These attained Lamas are pure embodiments of the Dharma.

Sad is this news, but over the side of the coin it also has a positive side... which is Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche's stand.
I like the fact that eventhough Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche was being tempted by HHDL, that buy giving up his DS practice and taking Nechug as his main protector, He would be more powerful, more successful, more wealthy, more famous, Trijang Rinpoche was not one bit interested with these possibilities. He in fact did not give up his real commitment and succumb to the 8 worldly concerns. Many of us "ordinary" people would have probably said YES.
By Trijang Rinpoche taking a new course through the hard decision he had to make, he gave many Dorje Shugden practitioners new hope, faith, strength and set the right example for us all to follow if we were put under the same circumstances.
-
No matter where we go and what we do, nothing will speak for you more loudly and clearly than our actions over time.
So, if our actions have been consistently honourable, loyal and respectful, we will be regarded as all those things and even be respected for them.
Such is the case with Choktrul Trijang Rinpoche. Despite all that he has had to endure and is still burdened with, he displays deep respect to the Dalai Lama and a deep commitment to Dorje Shugden.
What more do we need to say?

So well said!
You can see the same in all Dorje Shugden lamas - no disrespect towards the Dalai Lama or any of his supporters. They remain always patient, compassionate. They just work harder but very quietly and humbly in all their teachings and making the Dharma grow. Actions speak louder than words, you say? These lamas show us how it's done.
I always think this shows the true nature of Dorje Shugden. If DS was really so evil and harmful and out to kill the Dalai Lama, then why are his followers doing what is so opposite? If DS was going to be a threat on Dalai Lama's life, why do Dorje Shugden lamas always advice their students not to criticise, to have compassion and be patient, and always be respectful to the Dalai Lama and all dharma practitioners? If they are following a practice that is so evil, why are these lamas so kind? Why is it so clear that their whole lives are dedicated only towards bringing others happiness and relief? This wouldn't be the work of an evil spirit, would it?
On the other hand.... Followers of the Dalai Lama sadly, don't reflect well on the lama they are trying to protect and acting in the name of. Is breaking monks' windows, heckling monks, ostracising your fellow people, the behaviour of someone who is a devotee of the Buddha of Compassion? The Dalai Lama is a great being but sadly, of late, his students, the ones closest to him don't show the world his greatness in the way they act.

Yes, Gonsar Rinpoche was the main person for the protection and welfare of Trijang Rinpoche. Apart from Gonsar Rinpoche was Dagpo Rinpoche who financially supported Trijang Rinpoche while he was in Switzerland.
I am very touched how Trijang Rinpoche has to go through this spiritual journey and not attaching to the 8 worldly concerns. It clearly shows who he is.
-
Dear Icy,
It is more than just 8 worldly concerns that Trijang Rinpoche have to contend with. At his young age, his very life is threatened because of his practice of Dorje Shugden and yet he doesn't give up. Out of respect for the Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugden, he has returned his vows and live in quiet seclusion in America. He still maintains a small group of students in a secluded center at Vermont.
There were attempts on his live and that of his attendant. Imagine growing up in fear of your life and every move you make would offend a whole faction of the Dalai Lama or Dorje Shugden practitioners. It is amazing Trijang Rinpoche has not given up on his practice completely and choose to pursue a completely lay life like Lama Osel. No disrespects to Lama Osel in this case as he might be pursuing a different inner spiritual path. The comparison is not to pass judgement as I do not have the wisdom to discern their motivation but to reveal the amazing qualities of the young Trijang Rinpoche.
I think Trijang Rinpoche is waiting for the time when the ban would be lifted and he can openly practice once more and continue the work of his predecessor.
-
It sadden me automatically when I read all the post above. In the first place (in a perceived ordinary mind), I felt heart broken that it has to reached this stage for Trijang Rinpoche to have to make this decision.
Even the news of Dukhang Khamtsen splitting away from Gaden Shartse to form part of Shar Gaden dishearten me terribly in 2008. In my mind at that time why should Buddhism have so much politics involve.
However, it has also been said that there will be a time to come during the degenerate age that we will not even hear the Buddha’s name. Therefore, I believe that these are all skillful methods of enlightened beings ie Trijang Rinpoce and HH are manifesting.
Yes, Gaden Monastery is an illustrious monastery, there is no doubt to this. Many many high lamas have been trained and they have spread Buddhism far and wide. But it has also come a time now whereby lamas have to manifest different methods.
Seriously speaking, how many of us actually visit Gaden to learn and to be trained from the High Lamas and Geshe. And come to think about it, most the successful Gelugpa centers around the world has their lama residing outside Gaden currently.
What Trijang Rinpoche “dilemma” is not a dilemma if you look at this carefully, it is Rinpoche skillful method to bring dharma further and wider.
The world is forever evolving with the new/latest technology, Buddhism can evolve also.
-

AGREED... I too believe that Buddhism can evolve yet the essence of it still remains. There are so many great masters out there and each one has their special method in expounding the dharma to us today.
People are different and some will be suitable in a certain method taught, whereas another, another method. Buddha himself gave us 84,000 different teachings to follow. They were all written in 108 volumes of kangyur by the great saint Atisha who brought Dharma to Tibet... and now today we have the condense version in Lamrim - Liberation in Palm of your Hands!!!
I cannot imagine learning from 108 kangyur but today we have the wonderful Lamrim book, just one book which is the essence, the combination of all that Buddha has taught. This book evolve from Lama Atisha's time to Lama Tsongkhapa who gave us The Stages of the Path to Enlightenment. Then it was expounded and taught greatly again by the great Pabongka and then commentaries given by Trijang Rinpoche... and which is what we have toaday, how amazing! Honestly if Buddhism did not evolve, I think many would probably not be practising now.
Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche being where he is today, doing what he is doing today, may well be creating another evolution in Buddhism that we cannot see yet, but whatever it is, he has his own centre now, he is still teaching and the best part is, he still does Dorje Shugden... so all his students will automatically be practising too. Shar Gaden is like a new Gaden monastery of Dorje Shugden masters and practitioners, seems like the era for Dorje Shugden has begun...
I rejoice in positive manifestations of these great Masters and Heroes that will preserve and spread DS to the world.

Recently, I heard of how the current Trijang Choktul Rinpoche was almost killed in Gaden in His ladrang when he was younger.
There were assassins in masks who trespassed Trijang Ladrang holding sticks with the intention to kill Trijang Choktul Rinpoche. Fortunately, there were monks guarding the ladrang already at that time. The monks took shifts to guard the ladrang to ensure the ladrang was guarded at all times.
For Trijang Rinpoche's safety, Rinpoche had to sleep in different rooms every night so that it will not be easy for the assassins to plot their killing. In the end as we all know, Trijang Rinpoche left the country, one of the reasons is for Rinpoche's safety.
-
I completely agree with dsiluvu. Change is happening every second. Embracing change and adapting ourselves to it is key for sustainability. Therefore, for Dharma to survive through these degenerate period, new strategies must be applied.
Based on results, this strategy seems to have its results. From the fiery media coverage this "issue" received to the opening of new Dorje Shugden monasteries, we can conclude that Dorje Shugden practice is only gaining more attention and acknowledgement.
Throughout the years of the ban, we can witness the pieces coming into place. There was a lot of distress at the beginning when the suffering was most intense (many of the "disastrous stories" related to the suffering occurred at this period of time). With the shocking situation created, rapid awareness as well as strong declaration to end this suffering were created. For example, websites to provide information about DS is set up, closely knit DS communities sprouted etc. In more recent times, there seem to be more "good news" than bad ones. For example, actively creative, innovative, and constructive works (the graphic novel, the animated production, the website...this very forum) is being done for the practice of Dorje Shugden to flourish and Dorje Shugden practitioners are able to practice for safely in new monasteries.
Perhaps, if we continue to work hard for the practice of Dorje Shugden to grow, we will be able to witness the end of this ban and the re-entry of this practice into mainstream Dharma.
-
I really feel sad for the people who put Trijang Rinpoche in a dilemma because they do not know what kind of negative karma do they reap for themselves. I can only guess the fearsome consequences of stopping such a great lama from teaching. Why would anyone want to put such a high and erudite master in such a position where he has to choose between studying the Dharma and leaving? Very bad for the CTA to do something like this. Very bad.
-
I am sure Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche was already in a dilemma even before the Dalai Lama gave him the ultimatum. In fact when the Dalai Lama did that His Holiness gave Trijang Rinpoche the escape route Trijang needed to drop off from the radar. I take the view that the Dalai Lama is actually on a clandestine mission to spread Dorje Shugden and his ultimatum to Trijang Rinpoche was a very clever preemptive move to secure the safety of the reincarnation of His Holiness’s teacher whom he knows will become very prominent in promoting Dorje Shugden in the future.
Due to his illustrious previous reincarnation’s reputation and deep involvement as a Shugden practitioner, Trijang Rinpoche was already under pressure and was seen by many, as the face of the resistance to the ban and expectations of Trijang to be a significant part of the Shugden movement was high. But the same time, Trijang was also an open target for attacks by anti-Shugden force and therefore he was facing a lose-lose situation.
By disrobing and leaving his monastery Trijang Rinpoche effectively removed himself from the equation in terms of Shugden related political and monastic affairs. In retrospect and looking at how messy things became, it appears Trijang Rinpoche made the right decision and instead of being drawn into one side or the another, Trijang has had almost 10 years of preparation to execute a more effective play to resume the legacy his predecessor left. It would not surprise me at all to learn that Trijang Rinpoche has sought the counsel of Dorje Shugden all the way and like Dorje Shugden himself, Trijang Rinpoche has not uttered a word in support for, or against the Dalai Lama’s ban.
And now with Trijang Rinpoche’s reemergence, we see that he has lost none of his commitment to Dharma or his significance within the Sangha community. The sight of Trijang Rinpoche in public itself is a tremendous boost to Dorje Shugden practitioners wound the world and I can’t wait to see what affirmative actions he will take or inspire now that it seems the time is here.
-

Trijang Rinpoche has never wanted to get involved with this from the start. he made this very clear in a radio interview quite sometime ago. His step of disrobing and taking a consort is to show his extreme displeasure with how the whole ban has spiraled into. But even then, it does not remove ant of his attainments and also he did not stop doing Dharma work and teaching others despite being disrobed. As the recent pictures have proven, he is still very respected everywhere and he is still teaching like his previous incarnation. What is interesting is, he is still taking a neutral stance on Dorje Shugden and he has not said anything about it so far.
-
My view is that since Choktrul Trijang Rinpoche is young (just turned 30 I think) he has time. The peak of a Lama is around the forties. So plenty of time to do his work. Also since the Dalai Lama banned the practice and since the Dalai Lama is older and more popular, Choktrul Trijang Rinpoche can't do must at that time but to lay low. So we can say the timing was not right.
However, I am feeling the timing is getting better by the day and maybe it is just me, I noticed he is getting a higher profile recently. So I am hoping that he will really start to spread the Dharma and the practice of Dorje Shugden especially going forward. Keeping my fingers crossed on this.
One thing for sure is that Rinpoche will not let us all down. I will await the day when he openly spread the Protector practice.

Reading this again makes me feel quite disgusted about they can allow or have high Lamas be treated in such a way and why was there NO INVESTIGATION to this matter????
A bias, hypocritical govt will head no where but down! People will soon find out the truth sooner or later... for centuries it has been so... how long can CTA pretend and sweep these kind of happenings under the carpet and keep coming up with twisted illogical facts on Dorje Shugden that even an idiot can think through it.
All the more reasons why we should embrace this dilemma as an inspiration to promote more info that we have here to the world to create the causes to lift the BAN so that great masters like Trijang Rinpoche can soon freely an openly give teachings and protector practice to anyone who wishes to receive it!
-
I believe that the time for hiding is coming to a close right now as Choktrul Trijang Rinpoche had been travelling most extensively to Mongolia and Europe of late. I believe that his years of living under threat and constant temptations by the Dalai Lama and the CTA to return to India and in the process, renouncing Dorje Shugden, is coming to an end.
It is obvious that Choktrul Rinpoche will never renounce Dorje Shugden and that the requests are all in vain as he is a Lama that lives by his vows and commitments. With the news of the Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche appearing in Switzerland, Mongolia and so forth fills me with hope. Somehow, I believe that we are all on the threshold of something really big that will shake CTA and its petty little ban to its core. I believe with Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche being given the permission to practice Dorje Shugden is like an unspoken request to please spread Dorje Shugden in the future. I believe the future is fast materializing right now before our very eyes.
It is just a matter of time before the ban gets lifted and I think great Lamas like Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche would be instrumental in spreading Dorje Shugden in a big way after that.

Dharma attainments, like samsaric ones can only come via stability and commitment and also with conviction. Trijang Rinpoche has demonstrated this quality both in this life and the previous one so we should really follow his example. the Dorje Shugden ban cannot be held for long because the more people know about the ban and how unjust it is for the Dorje Shugden practitioners and how much lies it has, the ban will not be able to sustain itself as people will always side with the truth.

Dilemma?no dilemma this is the Trinle of an Enlightened being, Choktrul Trijang Yeshe Gyatzo. We will see with our own eyes the fulfilment of His Holy Action.

The dilemma here is more or less with the Tibetans who want to stop his enlightened activities which is why he has to travel around with bodyguards. CTA, ironically, wants him dead due to the Dorje Shugden issue. It is sad that there are people who want such a high and holy lama dead. There was even a murder attempt when the young Trijang Rinpoche was still with Ganden Shartse, and they had to switch rooms every night to ensure his safety. It is harrowing to know that a 'buddhist' government like CTA wants to murder Buddhist lamas!

There are so so many signs that the Dorje Shugden ban is coming to an end, the many actions done by the dorje shugden lamas, the many top Gelug lamas coming out to teach on a worldwide scale, the founding of Shar Gaden and Serpom monasteries, many new Dorje Shudgen monasteries being restored and being established all across the globe, look at NKT who has been loyal to Dorje Shugden they have the most dharma centers of any Buddhist organisations this is not a fluke, Dorje Shugden spreading and dorje shugden materials being distributed all across the globes, the Dorje shugden website becoming bigger and a great source of information for everyone interested in Dorje shugden and everything associated with it, so much multimedia and articles out there confronting the ban and the falsity the ban represents, I hope I can soon see the day Kyabjye Pabongka starts to turn the wheel of dharma once again. Dorje Shugden movement is one of the most dynamic that can be said to exist in our world now and will carry on to do so until the ban eventually becomes lifted.

Of interest also is the para before what Big Uncle posted from http://www.shugdensociety.info/historyEvents1998EN.html: (http://www.shugdensociety.info/historyEvents1998EN.html:)

It is very nice to see how these high Lamas support each other and yet remain on the good side of the Dalai Lama. Dagpo Rinpoche was the root Lama of Pabongkha Rinpoche and in this lifetime he was able to manifest huge amounts of Dharma work (although it seems that he and Pabongkha Rinpoche are physically distant) and it shows us again that how all the enlightened masters are actually one and the same as they work towards the same goal that is to bring all beings to enlightenment. In lieu of that, we should remember that the Dalai Lama is also working towards that together and however unjust is the ban, it could be that he is preparing the world for Dorje Shugden's global herald.

Indeed it is. All actions of Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche, who is one with Heruka is sacred and would benefit beings in ways that are beyond our understanding. I believe the same with the Dalai Lama and that these great beings along with Dorje Shugden are manifesting something big to bring tremendous benefit of Dorje Shugden into this world. From the website, I glean a glimpse of their great plan and I think this is only a small part of this whole grand scheme of things. What do you think Paolo?

As time passes, it will be clear that Trijang Rinpoche and the Dalai Lama are working towards the same goals: that is to bring Dorje Shugden to many. the Dalai Lama may use reverse psychology to bring awareness of Dorje Shugden to people while Trijang Rinpoche would use the normal method. Things might be difficult for us Dorje Shugden practitioners now, but everything is for a cause and everything happens for a reason as it is not possible for High Lamas to go at each others' throats, if that was possible, then it would totally contradict the Buddha's teachings.

The Good News is the Dalia Lama is irrelevant and our Shugden Monasteries are completely independent of Dharmasala. The Dalia Lama cannot do anything with his disturbances. Likewise His Holiness Trjiang Rinpoche laid the groundwork as he instructed Geshe Kelsang Gyatso to Flourish the Dharma around the World with the New Kadampa Tradition. His Holiness prepares lay people to be as clerg and is likely to assume the mantle of authority of NKT, once Geshe Kelsang Gyatso enters Tushita Heaven

What an interesting hypothesis, Thom. And nice to see you back here by the way. The thing is, how will HH Trijang Rinpoche take over NKT when Geshe Kelsang Gyatso has been extremely clear and adamant about not recognising tulkus at NKT? As far as I've heard, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso has not even gone to see the Young HH Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche, who is the incarnation of his root guru.
i do think it is a great idea though for HH Trijang Rinpoche to take over NKT, for he will have a huge network at his fingertips practically overnight. However, I think that a better way for the transition would be not to wait til Geshela passes into clear light but for Geshela to hand over the reins of the NKT now. This would tell all the NKT centres of Geshela's intentions so there is no question or contention when Geshela is no longer around.
Geshe Kelsang Gyatso has expressed concerns over succession and HH Trijang Rinpoche taking over would be an excellent succession. i hope that the NKT members will go along with the plan though. I know the NKT members are not necessarily an easy bunch as they have strong opinions :) i have not heard what they think of the young HH Trijang Rinpoche either.
If this is to come to pass, it will certainly be interesting!

I dont really think that Trijang Rinpoche would head NKT at all because NKT's system and organisation and structure is of such where there is no room for tulkus. If it was introduced, there would be a lot of people who might claim themselves to be tulkus and this might cause problems for the organisation. In Gelugpa, tulkus are not recognized just because they are, but due to the actions and potentials they can bring. with a community of individuals who are not familiar with this, there could be much potential problems and GKG is wise enough to foresee all of these to avoid potential problems in the future.

Very often I think that HH Choktrul Trijang Rinpoche gave up his robes in order to practise Dorje Shugden with peace and without being under the scrutiny of the office of the Dalai Lama.
As mentioned even when promised with fame and renown by the Dalai Lama, Trijang Rinpoche chose to continue his DS worship.
It is of course of no surprise on the integrity of such High Lamas who incarnate to continue their work life after life.

This is indeed so sad :( HH Dalai Lama persuading Choktrul Trijang Rinpoche to give up His practice for some "false security". Choktrul Trijang Rinpoche now had to practice in lay cloth, started TBI, and raising as a great lama now, traveling places.
I do pray Choktrul Trijang Rinpoche can put on the monk robe in very near future and pray the ban on Dorje Shugden can come to an end, because it is really heartache to see all this :(
