Title: Pop star Faye Wong divorced to be a nun?
Post by: kris on October 26, 2013, 03:41:56 PM
There are rumors that huge pop star Faye Wong's divorce is strongly linked to wanting to be a nun. Not sure if it is real, but if Faye Wong indeed would become a nun, she will send a VERY strong message to the community, and I sincerely pray that she will find her happiness!!

Faye Wong has led a life of huge success and equal amounts of dissappointments and failures. She has had all that she ever wanted and tasted the extremes of life. But clearly she has not found eternal peace and happiness. Fortunately, she met the Dharma and has chosen to take solace in it. Whether or not it eventually leads her to become a nun, it is already a great asset now to be able to take refuge in a Guru and the Dharma in order for her to have the opportunity to study the Dharma , transform her mind, to find peace and most important to benefit her family and all those around her.

Wealth and fame can't always create happiness.
“Buddhism is one of the world’s oldest religions, originating around 500 BC in India. It offers a spiritual journey that focuses on personal spiritual development and the attainment of a deep insight into the true nature of life.
There is no form of redemption, heavenly hope, or final judgement; one lives within the circle of Karma where your deed reflects the world you live. In Buddhism, karma specifically refers to actions of body, speech, and mind that spring from mental intent and bring about a consequence or fruit, or result.
According to cultural theorist and staff writer from Unbound Magazine at the College of New Jersey Anna Argasinski, “Buddhism may be alluring to celebrities because it confronts egotism and challenges the notion of individuality. It is also firmly bound in the disciplines of the imagination, so celebrities interested in exploring their creativity may find Buddhism more appealing.

I would not be surprised at all if indeed this piece of news is true. Faye Wong have had her glory in the entertainment industry. She have been through and done all the best thing that money could buy. She have also married the man she loved, and yet she must have felt there was something she is missing. I pray that she would find happiness and be successful in her spiritual journey.

Nowadays we hear of many prominent people in the entertainment industry giving up their colorful life to live life as a monk/nun.  Having achieved popularity in their own field, they give up everything that they have worked hard for --- the money, name, fame .... now all these do not matter anymore as they live their "new life", enriched with each passing day, in the present of Dharma.

Interesting, whether it is real or not, I would have to say that the probability of it being true is very high. There are so many celebrities nowadays that are beginning to search for solace in spirituality... especially if they have experienced some kind of life changing event. In Faye's case, that would be her daughter's disability (is clef lip considered a disability? ) and problems with her ex-husband.

To me, these 'problems' are truly a blessing for her... if it was not a blessing, the how can such problems have turned her to Dharma. It is so sad that people in this generation do not see the value of Dharma... so strange that people would grab on to coal instead of pursuing a diamond... Enlightenment is not easy, but if we had put all our effort into pursuing enlightenment instead of worldly pleasures, we would have been enlightened already. So scary... it is just so scary how we delude ourselves and end up in samsara over and over again.

It is confirmed Faye has no intention to become a nun and the Smile Angel Foundation (a Beijing-based charity co-founded by the couple) will continue to function.

According to Taiwanese media reports, ex-husband Li Yapeng’s frivolous ways were not the sole cause of the couple’s separation. The 44-year-old actress apparently kept Nicholas’s reconciliation request three months ago under wraps, resulting in a huge dispute between the two and hence led to a divorce.

Sohu.com reports that Chinese songstress Faye Wong said in an online statement on Wednesday that she will not become a nun following her divorce and her manager said that she is not quitting showbiz to pursue Buddhism

Many celebrities are seeking spirituality to enrich their lives as they realized that fame and money cannot buy inner peace and happiness. I hope Faye Wong will find peace and solace after her divorce even though she does not want to be a nun.

Pop stars, singers, actresses, actors all have lead troubled lives in their past and present. It is clearly proven that lots of money or material gain does NOT bring equivalent happiness that we all seek. There was a recent Indian Bollywood actress who also became a nun and gave up her worldly concerns to seek the spiritual path. That was a wise decision on her part, as she recognised it is the only path that can truly bring permanent happiness.

I feel happy for Faye for she would potentially find her spiritual journey again in speculation of her becoming a nun. Peace is what she is looking for and she will find it in Buddhism and will be able to realise the true nature and meaning of life in samsara.

Her (if she really is going to) becoming a nun would spark a lot of attention from public especially her fans and will create some hype over Buddhism. This will entice curious people to venture into Buddhism to find out more. I think by doing this, she will already be creating a lot of merits in search of peace as she is influential and a popular figure.

Whether or not Faye Wong would be a nun it really does not matter but the importance is she's kept on practicing the Dharma and move on with her life in order to benefit others thru her fame and do more by promoting Buddhism. In fact she's already draw so much attention recently in the media reporting her to be a nun, in directly so's already promoting Buddhism to be exact Tibetan Buddhism no matter what her intention is.

Many Hong Kong pop stars have turned to Buddhism in finding a balance, which their high-flying, ego-centric, competitive and pretentious career lack. We live in strange times because while we love and admire the stars, we also in some ways contribute to their ego trip. And if they happened to do something wrong or unwholesome, they are often shredded to pieces by the same people who once sang their praises. How queer!  ???

Even celebrities who seem to have it - fame and wealth,  still experience unhappiness in their lives. It's obviously that true happiness can only be achieved by training the mind to transform difficulties / challenges into awakening.

If its true that she is becoming a nun, that would be very good news. Its sad when you think you have 'everything' but you dont. She has fame, fortune, kids and many things that she wants yet she is unhappy. For her to turn to spirituality to find 'happiness' and peace is the right thing to do. And the monk that asked her to do the preliminary practice of prostrating will definitely help her a lot mentally. May she continue to understand and do more.

Kris mentioned : .. There are rumors that huge pop star Faye Wong's divorce is strongly linked to wanting to be a nun.

That's exactly what it is ... just rumours.

In her own words: “Will not be a nun.”

Most probably the news about her wanting to be a nun were circulated to take the pressure and attention away from her personal problems.
